It's not surprising; for the same reasons that most adults wouldn't have a competition-based ego when speaking to a four-year-old, John Williams wouldn't have such an ego when speaking to his colleagues.

If you invite John Williams for a talk, always remember to have the shittiest audio setup possible.

If you look at Williams' early credits, he was known as "Johnny Williams." "Bennie" was the nickname for Bernard Herrmann in Hollywood.

Williams had the good fortune of working in the orchestras of two of the most gifted conductors in Hollywood: Morris Stoloff (Columbia) and Alfred Newman (20th Century-Fox). If you listen closely the next time you watch "Picnic" (Columbia, 1955), that's Williams playing the piano during the dance with William Holden and Kim Novak.

I am pleased that JTW mentioned Daniele Amfitheatrof. JTW played the piano on DA's final film score, "Major Dundee".

Such a shame to have the opportunity to interview one of the legends of film scoring and blow it because nobody knows anything about VIDEO production. Sound and camera are absolutely horrible! Just like music, video production is an art.

I would love a transcript of this John Williams interview (all 7 parts), because the volume unfortunately is too low for my foreign ears.

England has some of the most successfully recognised Music Schools in the world: Royal College of Music, Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall College of Music and Drama, Royal Northern College of Music, need I go on.. these schools have produced some of the greatest musicians (IMO) of all time: Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan-Williams, Harry Gregson-Williams, Craig Armstrong, David Arnold etc. In fact, those living today, regularly give talks at the Universities/Conservatory's.

The freaking egos on some people. He may as well have been introducing Peter Tchaikovsky, but he introduced the writer of Star Wars, Jaws, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Schindler's List and Close Encounters of the Third Kind like he was just some guy.
