I have a follow-up video on this topic that goes better into the context behind my anger on this. When I say, "This goes deeper than them not doing a theme justice". THAT is what angers me, not the art so much. I believed at the time that Stern was pushing an agenda. I deal with these agenda pushers in other parts of my life, and to see it creeping into my passion for pinball was something that I couldn't tolerate. Since this video was released, Stern clarified the licensor was the reason for no guns.

Dude it’s only pinball. You haven’t even played it yet, and have no idea what the experience is going to be. Take a breath and buy it or don’t. I’m not saying guns are bad, but literally this is pinballl and not life or death. When I first opened my Arcade bar 7 years ago there was a guy that kept giving me shit for not allowing weapons in my establishment. I serve alcohol and I don’t want to mix the two. That’s common sense. So Stern not putting guns in the artwork of John Wick because the licensor didn’t want it is their prerogative. They didn’t add guns to the artwork to avoid that obstacle, but the movie clips will be full of them. That’s smart and how you compromise.

@thebasementarcadebar in regards to the man with the gun. He should be aware that bringing a weapon into an establishment that serves alcohol is illegal (Texas law, at least). Trust me, I'm giving the game a shot. I have cooled down since Stern clarified. Would rather the licensor be the problem than a major company inside of my hobby.

John Wick with no guns is a waste of an IP. Imagine being a super fan and just getting kicked in the balls. Why bother doing the IP to begin with. Damn, I would love to have heard this decision meeting discourse. Who's making these expensive, bone-head, decisions? Toy Story 4 pinball, Jaws doesn't eat the ball, John Wick no guns, BBQ pinball... why are these decisions being made in an industry that has such a small number of customers? I don't get it. It's not rocket science.

agree definitely will pass. I rather buy Godzilla at least they did not mess that game up. Iron Maiden has all kinds of violence in the pinball game so surprised they screwed this one up so bad.

So Gomez’s statement saying it was a brand requirement, certainly this wasn’t Lionsgates requirement as they licensed film clips with guns. They sell lots of movies with guns. So Gomez statement being vague sounds intentional. This is Stern’s brand now? If so then it can permanently check Stern off my list

Listen to the LoserKid podcast with Gomez. It was a Lionsgate requirement because pinball is considered an “all ages” product. Guns allowed in video clips because putting a coin in the machine is considered an agreement to accept the R- rated content. In theory, a kid can see the game in an arcade without guns just walking by, but if they want to play they have to ask mom if they can play, just like buying a ticket to an R-rated movie.

😂 I was talking to the rest of the Mafia today about the release video, and I was like, "Man, Cary kinda poo-poo'd on it in the 1st video, then changed his tune a bit in the second....no way he's not going to like what he saw from the release video." Never saw THIS coming! 😂 I never even noticed the no guns, and I'm a gun guy, too, but I still think the game looks great. I'm excited to play it, regardless.

Just double checked, and in fact the case doesn't have any guns in it either, it has smoke grenades, knives, and nun-chucks, so now not only are they not including guns but they are actively being untrue to the source material by not accurately showing the nice pair of H&K P30L's that he has in the first movie, that come from that case.

Pulp Fiction has guns on it! And the language…..but it does have a family friendly setting…..but they didn’t neuter the playfield! The Bad Mother Flipper was just a hilarious take.

Yup, that was me the other day. Livid. I felt that it was an attack on my Constitutional right. All of it. We ranted on the live stream, we bonded. We bro hugged. I then went and looked at the game play videos of the Premium and I started to chill out. I thought, "Willie you know what, the 2nd Amendment doesn't apply to Assassins". They operate outside of the law and that isn't us law abiding firearms owners. People think us pro 2A are nuts, but we aren't. We are among the most law abiding, sane, sober, moral and prudent citizens. So I'm better now, still I think Lionsgate, or Stern, the designer, the artist or all of the above are still cringe worthy pu55ies, but I'm moving on. The game looks great, I prefer the Premium art package. I don't like the art work on the backbox and I don't like some of the character art on the playfield. But I like the rest of it. And this game will be a moders dream. I have a ton of ideas already. I need to talk to Bobby and Mr. T, we are going to make this happen. There will be guns! Am I buying it? Nope, does that invalidate my opinion? Nope. I just don't have $9.6k to drop on a pinball machine.

Very weird move for stern.. however, if there are guns in the game animation or in the weapons chest I won’t be that upset but if they removed the guns all together!?? That would be nuts!

This is what happens when you've been the only game in town for years. They think you'll swallow anything, buy anything. Meanwhile, Labyrinth, Godfather, Pulp Fiction at least are true to their IP and cheaper tables to boot.

It does seem like some sort of artistic choice. Bond has guns all over it. There are guns in the clips. It’s not like taking guns off the playfield makes it any less violent looking. Don’t really agree with the outrage but you do you. Also I don’t think Stern owes distributors anything in terms of how they handle a license… I wouldn’t buy this game with or without guns but I guess if it’s that important to you as a ‘real fan’ maybe they should have put guns in the art (which I think is actually quite good, the art that is), wow haha!

Shoulda had a GUN shooter handle like Shadow, IJ, DH, etc....

When you think about it, this isn’t just a middle finger to fans of John Wick, it’s a middle finger to the whole Gun-Fu genre and directors like John Wu and Takeshi Kitano, whose work was a huge inspiration for the John Wick series. I’m sure the designers were just as frustrated by this level of corporate meddling, but at least the layout works.

I don't own any guns but I see the appeal. That being said, John Wick = guns & action and I am baffled they didn't incorporate it. Its like having the Star Wars pinball without the Death Star lol. WTF were they thinking.

Take Dirty Harry pinball and put John Wick code in it

Mr Cary Hardy. Thank you for making this video. The longer you think about the "why" there are no guns in the game, the more anger you will have. A John Wick pin would be a "take my money" theme for me. I thought nothing would stop me from buying one. They have proved me wrong.

No way a gun that clean’s had more than 10 rounds through it. Cute prop though. I do agree that not having guns on the playfield and side art does an incredible disservice to the character. John only used nunchucks in one scene in one movie. You gotta showcase the HK and Taran Tactical sidearms or I’m not interested.

Stern really dropped the ball. If they were concerned about gun violence, why not just make pro version without guns and then add gun props and gun stuff to the premium and LE versions for adults?

The game should really be titled "John Woody" (Toy Story) and the backglass needs Woody on the backglass with his always empty pistol holster. My Jaws table has a speargun on the playfield. I will probably get some kind of sticker from Stern to cover it if the trend continues. JAWS HAS MORE GUNS THAN JOHN WICK! Its a slippery slope folks. Let your money talk cause the mouse ain't listening and deep down I think Stern secretly hopes there's a consumer backlash. I feel like this no gun condition came late in the process after money already changed hands and by then Stern had to go with the table. Just floatin that out there. Remember, it was Ben Franklin who said regarding the breaking away from England and the need for a unified front "We must hang together or most assuredly we will all hang separately".

Interesting take and I understand where you come from but take a breath for a minute. James Bond shows weapons.. there has to be a reason why it was chosen to not go that route with this pin. I think the most obvious change is the weapons cache, in the movie it shows guns and on the playfield it shows other items.

Just saw gameplay there ARE guns in the animations & stuff on-screen. There are film clips of him holding guns w/ bleeding gunshot wounds etc. Theres also guns prevalent & integral to the code / gameplay

Could there be a licensing issue? Would you have to play the "owner" of they type of gun? Cant imagine (HOUSE OF MOUSE) as to why they would they leave it out....

Game looks fantastic. I guess I don’t care that much about the depiction of Guns in the artwork. It still looks an awful lot like Wick to me! My priorities must be messed up… I thought this was supposed to be fun!?

So the license was partially sold i.e. neutered. Confusing, guns galore in movie but none for the game. I'd have tried to negotiate one gun toy instead of the medallion and maybe even also the car, lol. (Only notable toy is the rotating smash car.) There's something for everyone but not for me in this case. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, seems obvious could have had balls come out of the SHOOTER, as there's enough room ranging from snub to rifle barrel, etc., etc....

I am in. Tired of their stupid decisions, astronomical prices and cheapness. They give a damn about collectors, quality, creativity, and lack of passion and innovation (besides boring insider)...but most of all, they dont care about feedback from us (like Spooky does for example). They were the best for a long time. Not anymore. Enough is enough.

I agree with this 100 percent. There are certain characters where the firearm is an integral component of the character. John Wick is one of those certain characters. I LOVE the theme, but there are some red flags on this one for me.

I think you take this way too seriously. George Gomez said that there are plenty of guns in the clips, and that this was a mandate from the license holder, for whatever reason.

I’m sure gun crime will go down 8% wherever these are on location. Thanks Stern!

Yeah they also took agent venoms gun in the venom pinball game. It’s definitely not that big of a deal but it’s still a character known for using guns that they decided not to give one.

This is ridiculous. When you think of John Wick, you think of guns and killing people. He literally killed 439 people across all 4 movies.

So let's make Spiderman without any webs, walking dead without zombies, any rock band theme but with generic music. Is the game playable, yes, but what's the point if you take away all that it stands for?
