In junior high I snuck in to the room of my friend's older brother and found A Go Go in his cd player. Listened to the first track, stole the cd. I have been hooked on scofield ever since. Looks like crime does pay.

I had the opportunity to see Scofield in Sweden a while ago. Probably the best concert I've ever been to. Small village too. It turned out the guy who booked him helped Scofield out in a situation he had in Stockholm some years ago. Scofield's luggage (guitars, amps, pedals etc) got lost at the airport and this guy (living some 600 km south of Stockholm) was a big fan of Scofields music and had an exact setup of his gear. He drove up to Sthlm and lend him his gear. As a return favor he played ..

The Scho man is a revolutionary. He slaps mainstream music in the face and dares to redefine all genres that pigeonhole what is "normal" in the world of music. I saw this guy at the 2009 Jazzfest in NOLA; what a fucking show! I missed out on a lot of great playing over the years, but not anymore.

@firedancerart still, this is refreshing. Scofield plays this style well even without an organ backing him up, his sound his so full it sounds more than a trio... It's nice there's more than one version for this number.
@disgruntleddave16 жыл бұрын
At first the tone strikes as a bit abrasive, but that quickly passes if you listen to it all rather than just his tone. Wonderful groove going on here with that bit of atonality that just blends so wonderfully with the groove. I quite like the harmonic style here over some of the other scofield stuff I've heard.

Been thinking about the Metheny vs Scofield thing lately. Everybody seems to bring it up. It comes down to what you like to hear. Honestly, they are both equally world class players, but Scofield makes me want to listen, think AND dance, where Metheny makes me want to go to sleep.

Swing is often a term thrown around to mean more than just the traditional meaning (ie, long-short eights). In this case it is referring more to the rhythm in terms of the groove, the accents, etc. Instead of implying that the music is 'swung', it is simply swing'n, in the same way it's kickin', grooving, or another adjective that suits your fancy.
