@@Rockandrollgeerage I thought you were asking about the song title. Growing up there it was always known as Lake Mary. Small town, teachers always told us the story of the song as kids. Lots of great band played there back in the day even as a kid I got to go to the Edgewater on Lake Mary before it was tore down. Acts like Nugent and Reo Speedwagon played there and the Wonder Bar back in the 70s/80s. Now its just condos and the only music is country thunder...sad

For me .. He sings "aw baby" and i break down .. We have IT and lose IT .. NOT that IT "comes and goes" .. more like we are there , with IT , where all is good , and then , suddenly , we are not .. John's showing the CONTRAST in every verse .. 1 .. Lost orphans adopted 2 .. One day / Aw Baby 3 .. Everything is going on as usual in the parking lot .. Everyone is smiling .. Untill .. WHOA WHAT WAIT WOW BUMMER .!. IT AIN'T ALWAYS AS IT APPEARS ( and we ain't all always with IT ) ( i sure ain't ) But we can stand by some little peaceful puddle anywhere and sway and sing .. and be there with .. whatever feeling it is JP wanted the song to evoke in us .. For me , a yearning .. for sausage .. Thank You , John Prine for sharing your gift with us .. MGB us all

I think each verse describes a completely separate event, but all of them occurred on the shores of Lake Marie. And I’m not sure if Prine intended this, but each verse loosely deals with one of the 3 big events in life - birth, marriage and death. But maybe I’m reading too much into it.
