Lyrics:
I wish you love - and happiness
I guess I wish - you all the best
I wish you don't - do like I do
And never fall in love with someone like you
Cause if you fell - just like I did
You'd probably walk around the block like a little kid
But kids don't know - they can only guess
How hard it is - to wish you happiness
I guess that love - is like a Christmas card
You decorate a tree - you throw it in the yard
It decays and dies - and the snowmen melt
Well, I once knew love - I knew how love felt
Yeah I knew love - love knew me
And when I walked - love walked with me
And I got no hate - and I got no pride
Well, I got so much love that I cannot hide
Yeah, I got so much love that I cannot hide
Say you drive a Chevy - say you drive a Ford
Say you drive around the town 'till you just get bored
Then you change you mind - for something else to do
And your heart gets bored with your mind and it changes you
Well it's a doggone shame - and it's an awful mess
I wish you love - I wish you happiness
I wish you love - I wish you happiness
I guess I wish - you all the best

John Prine best singer songwriter ever to live IMO. He got his wings. I picture him singing this to us from above. My hero.

Acoustic instruments, real voices, no Autotune. Parents get your kids. They need to hear what real music sounds like.

I often watch this performance. It makes me wonder how many fans he made that night. Many had probably never heard John. When you love Prine, it's impossible to imagine hearing him live and not becoming one of us. Miss you Old Friend, thank God you left us so much.
I watched this when it aired and it was the first time I realized country music is good. RIP John Prine.

Absolutely man, I never heard so many people say they cried on the terrible news and pretty much every time we hear him since. I cry too , and sadly his great friend and Guitar accompanying (1980's and some 90's, plus lots of guest appearances) "Clontarf Cowboy" Philip Donnelly passed just a few months before John . I hope they all in a great place . ❤️❤️🙏☘️

About death and what it really is, see John 5;28&29,Revelation 21;3&4, Isaiah 26;19, Acts 24;15 & Daniel 12;2&13. Yeah, the Romans lied to us
I love how those acoustic guitar lines are interwoven.
Saw him last year in Dublin with my family, my son plays his music and it makes so proud to be his mom, great guy, great great songs and great show
I did this for my grand daughters rap friends. They were spellbound. Totally rad. They finally heard music.
Jim James has a special voice.

John was the best, and a great & humble man.
I never paid much mind to John Prine's music til after his death and now I feel kind of sad after thinking about all the music I will never get to hear and feel live. What a great singer/songwriter he was.
Love you, and all you did for us John. Rest In Peace.

Yes, theres so many of us JP fans hurting so bad right now. Sending prayers out to his family, the band, and anyone else in his close circle. I think he would be happy to see all of the new fans that are coming on board after his death. His music will certainly live on. I'm thankful for his music and contributions to humanity. Will never forgot the concerts I was fortunate enough to attend. Thanks John. You were truly a great guy.

I'm sure Jim James has his own fan base that loves his style, but it seems to me that he isn't a proper fit for the song. Or perhaps he should have performed it separately from John, so their styles didn't conflict with one another.
