Archetype Gojira has a pitch shifter that can do similar things, just no steps, it's "fluid". Neural released a preset pack for clean transpose steps. With a host that can handle midi-presets etc (I'm using Cantabile Solo), you can keep your transpose steps but use it as a whammy too.

Ola! Thanks for great content! As always. I've been heaving a thought for a while now. If you programmed a fake guitar riff, say one of the virtual guitar plugins out there, and ran it through the Neural DSP. Would it be possible to make it sound somehow close to a real axe? I mean simple riff/power chords. What do you think? Have you ever tried my sick ass idea?

  • @Proghead88

I do this sometimes when I'm working on a demo and don't have a guitar next to me. It sounds much more realistic but of course, the guitar samples have to be decent too. It's pretty effective still as long as it's basic power chords and single note riffs :) At the very least you get a rough idea of what type of amp you might want to use down the road for the real recording, assuming the guitar samples are reasonably similar to the guitar you are using.

These Neural DSP plugins are nuts! I just started checking them out. I have a Mesa Triple Crown 100, and I typically mic it on a 2x12 I built out of solid ash with Eminence Swamp Things in it, but I just moved to an apartment...and I'm blown away at how these plugins sound in a mix, mainly on rhythm guitar. For leads I think I'll still just piss off the neighbors, but I might actually do some rhythm tracking at least for layers with these.
