Спорт
John Oliver returns to help us process and come to terms with the end of Jürgen Klopp's colossal run as Liverpool manager. In this conversation, John and Rog discuss the ways Klopp has been fully embraced by the city of Liverpool, how it was never really about the trophies, and now the legacy he will leave behind.

Klopp's biggest achievement nobody mentioned -- he taught 10.000's of Brits the correct pronunciation of the letter 'Ü' ......well done, Yeahrgen !
@fasstaerke

thats actually wrong pronunciation, thats a very slang and accent based pronunciation of Ü which most germans dont use ^^
13:48 starts an absolutely EPIC section from John. "Trophies are essentially ephemeral, right? You only *own* them temporarily, then you hand them off to someone else who'll take them from you. What he was about was moments, right? Moments can't be taken away from you. You keep those forever.... Moments are tattoos on your soul, right? They're there FOREVER." I want that section as a short just so I can make sure I keep it saved for when Future Jim needs that reminder.

Typically he's a 100% wrong. In 50 years time no-one remembers "moments" and the Boot Room would have been the first to call him a soppy southern bollocks.

@@ktkee7161 No statistic is really relevant in 50 years time. It isn't that even in 20 years time. But we who have these memories will cherish them for the rest of our lives. When we pass away, along with these memories, the world has already moved on, and statistics are just empty numbers and the whole thing doesn't matter anyway. Statistics are for wikipedia and Jürgen's legacy are for the people rooting for Liverpool.
This is the smartest, funniest and most insightful discussion of Klopp and captures his humanity. Loved it.
As a Dortmund supporter I can empathize, when JK left BVB I felt much the same. Fans and people here still speak fondly of him and reminisce. That was nine years ago and of course those memories compelled me to follow his time in Liverpool. Chin up and raise your scarves, it will get better. Heja and YNWA🖤💛

One of my favourite experiences came on a trip to Berlin. Ended up in a bar around the corner from the hostel I was staying at to watch the Liverpool match in what turned out to be Dortmund pub, and the Dortmund v Bayern game was what followed on television and due to the Jurgen Liverpool scarf I was wearing I was treated like a lost family member. Still talk to people I met that day

"If he coaches another team, I'd be rooting for him." That's why I found myself rooting for Liverpool all of a sudden, after he had resigned from his post at Borussia Dortmund, my club.
When i was still a kid jürgen was our coach at Mainz05. We been second league and had never been first league, but we did so with him. I recall storming the field with my dad after our promotion. Good times. You might be able running into him doing vegetables shopping on our local market. Good man. Football isnt so much in my life anymore, but jürgen stayed. Says something on his character
When Klopp left Mainz the whole city cried but we were not bitter knowing that he was meant to achieve bigger things with bigger clubs. We wished him well and many of us proceeded to follow BVB and Liverpool with pride. It's good to see Liverpool fans are feeling the same. I agree that it's not only about football but his teams play a fantastic football, so passionate and entertaining. I hope we have not seen the end of this yet.

It would be a fairy tale ending if he went back but I really wish he gets to live life
Jurgen taking the players hand-in-hand to the fans against West Brom was due to the fans leaving early the week before and him asking them to stay to the end. Against West Brom, the fans stayed and Jurgen celebrated them and that he, the players, and the supporters were now together. In that moment, the game didn't matter. He'd reminded us who we were. Doubters to believers.

As a huge John Oliver Fan and a German, this was an absolute pleasure. And talking about moments, seeing and hearing John Oliver say, he wishes for the German national team to win the world cup with Klopp is an amazing moment in itself as well. (Although Nagelsmann extended his contract to the next world cup, so we might have to wait for Klopp with the German team still)
American LFC fan since 2006 here. I remember so many painful years before Klopp came. Some people will wish he could have achieved more, but before he came we were nowhere near even competing (consistently) and while he's been here, we win something like 70 to 80% of our games. When you compare that to what most sports fans have to go through, it's just been amazing these last 8 years under Klopp. Thank you so much! Gaffer, you've done so much for this club and I'll always appreciate you!

Great show! Thanks from Germany. And yes , Klopp has been our best ambassador. What a legend.
John Oliver says what I've been trying to articulate to people about Klopp leaving. The sadness of his departure has a little to do with football, but most of it is to do with the man and what he gave us as a person. Who he is. Been a supporter since the late 80's and have been falling out of love with the game a lot in the last decade. Genuinely thinking of walking away from it all after Sunday. Not because the success might be over - I saw 1 title victory and 30 years of pain that never made me feel like walking away - but because I truly cannot understand how to move on from such a man. A club I have loved with a man I admire more than most. It's going to be a sad Sunday night.

Wonderful interview as always Rog. Both you and John have such incredible twists of phrase! My heart is breaking into pieces watching Klopp on his way out, but I'm so grateful for shows like this that help me through it.
Jürgen is a spiritual and faithful man, and his devoutness for the visceral and sublime moments, big or small, are as John Oliver says, moments are tattoos on your soul. And to make people appreciate and glorify those moments, to really live in the present and indulge or luxuriate in it, is no simple feat. He gave people spirituality, via artistry and creativity in sport. A gift that cannot ever be repaid, but one given as a duty and act of faith. Bravo, Jürgen.
27:43 Jon longingly looking Into the distance, saying “trophies arnt really it” 😅❤
This interview lives up to many of the qualities of Jürgen Klopp. As a German, I‘m looking forward to Jürgen Klopp coaching the German national team.
Everything John Oliver said was on point, especially the "you're not my real dad sentiment". He's so much more than trophies. For me, as a more recent supporter of LFC, I feel like the Carabao Cup final summed that up perfectly. I remember this overwhelming sense of pride in this team a few minutes before Virgil scored his second goal (I said what I said). When the supporters sang the most beautiful rendition of Allez Allez Allez was a MOMENT for me. Up until this point Klopp leaving was something that was going to happen eventually. John's "thank you" has suddenly made it very real. This is it and I'm not prepared.

"Fail in the most beautiful way." Out of the many, many Klopp words to live by, these will stay with me the longest. It genuinely felt akin to a death when he announced he was leaving, but of course, it's just life. He taught us that, too.

As a yank “picking a Premier League team” lost in a world of star players, one better than the next, only one club stopped me in my tracks thinking “look at THAT” not “Look at him!”. That team was LFC… That team! and that was Klopp.

I've been hoping for an end of season Liverpool show with John Oliver and this did not disappoint. It was like going to your regular intimate music venue on Friday night without knowing the act but certain that, whomever it was, they'd be worth a listen and Paul Simon walks out to a live mike with a guitar and starts playing songs from his latest unreleased album.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. Thank you both 🩵 Pep may have my soul locked in a chest in his dungeon but Klopp fills a very particular and important place in all of our hearts. The league will not be the same without him. Really does feel like a heavy loss. Is there a single content creator anywhere in the world with better intros and outros? Phenomenal Rog, as always
I have consumed every minute of the Jürgen tributes thus far, but this is by far the best. The comment about moments is so perfect. My kids have grown into young adults amid our European and domestic family travels. They will speak about Jürgen to their kids for generations to come. I don’t want to move on. I will savour every moment 🥺
I love these two gentlemen together, John and Rog. John, who needs no introduction, whose trophy shelf buckles under the weight of TV award statuettes, and Rog, who speaks more eloquently than I write, able to produce aphorisms with the efficiency of a fortune cookie factory. One day far from this one, when John Oliver's career reaches the inevitable 'podcast host' stage, I dream of a future in which these two voices might guide my commute to work.
Jürgen reminded us how to believe again. As a manager he gave us success, joy, entertainment and pride. In return he will always be a Redman to us wherever he ends up. He will Never Walk Alone as long as there's a Liverpool supporter around. I'm SO glad that Jürgen is a Red! Now will someone please stop cutting bloody onions!
The very thing I wanted Waiting for it John talking abt jurgen discussing those moments Man tears, just tears, reminiscing all those moments and memories Thankkkk uuuuu

Thank you so much. This was wonderfully cathartic and helpful for this Liverpool supporter. I resonated with Oliver's comment that I would support Germany if Klopp goes on to manage them. YNWA. ❤️
To be fair, you gave us Monthy Python first, so we could learn about this comedy thing everybody was talking about so well. Then we were searching for a present we could give in return for literally decades. And after some unsuccesful tries, like we believed we could make you happy winning the Euro in your country 1996 so you could join us celebrating, didn't happen. Then we sent our top Bundesliga Clubs to Wembley to play a CL final, return to sender. It really felt like we could never make up, falling short in all our efforts. But eventually we found this Jürgen Klopp and can now say, after all these years, we are even! 😉
Rog: "WHEN HE PULLED THE HAMSTRING!" Jon: "FANTASTIC ! FAN. TASTIC." Best moment ever. These two are pictured in the OED under Synergy.
