Coming across this beautiful movie today, Dec. 15, 2023 at 9:30 a.m. is another proof for me of God's great love and concern for me -- it came just when I needed to be consoled and confirmed in my faith! Do you ask your friends to pray for you? The saints in heaven are our friends and closer to God than any of our earthly friends. Also, nowhere in the Bible does it say to follow only the Bible. Jesus founded a Church: the Catholic Church.

St. John is a friend who has close ties w/ our Beloved and he can speak to Him for us in a real and holy way, esp. since he knows what it is like to suffer much for and w/ Christ and he is now glorified w/ Christ. Today 17th of December 2023 the 3rd Sunday of Advent This beautiful story of St John of the Cross suddenly appeared on my screen Gave me such consolation of what I have been feeling lately after the death of my husband and I left the most beautiful job entrusted to me that is being a Scripture teacher for a great part of my life. I am seeking and praying asking God for guidance where is my place, how do I continue serving Him specifically true Scriptures. Although I am no expert or scholar. I long to continue serving Him in what He wills. Dear St John of the Cross pray for me 😢

speaking of God's LOVE 100% of the time was want I was searching for as a young man. I was NOT successful as a father or as a husband. I was licensed to preach God word. I had to give that up after serving for a short time. I am close to my 60th birthday. Dying inside not knowing why until now. But literally dying from a neurological disorder. Thank you so much for sharing about John of the Cross. SO inspiring and full of Gods love.

I watch this movie over and over and it carries me on as I do my study of John of the Cross and write down the words of the most moving dialogue from the movie. I love how he refers to Jesus as his Beloved, so much love in that word. I'm coming to use it more and more as it brings love into my soul. Thank you for this beautiful movie about a man devoted to unity w/ God.

It was so good to see Leonardo again. Excellent film. Good editing. The dialogue was good too: not easy to speak such words, words that most people don't use everyday, and certainly not within the religious context; yet, it was convincing. I knew Leonardo when he came to England before he made this film, when he did a one-man play on St John of the Cross. Seeing him again brings back happy memories. Fr John McGowan o.c.d.

You can't imagine how sublime this poetry in Spanish is!

Excellent film!!! Please pray for many priest who suffer at the hands of their superiors, like St. John of the Cross, for love of Christ and His church🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Loved the movie ,just in time to take me away from this agitation, confusión in the catholic church. Oh, if you could just read his poems in Spanish ! I mean , if anyone seeing this film can read or understand a little of Spanish , please , try and read them . There’s such a difference . I know it’s almost impossible to translate mystical poetry but , it’s soo beautiful .

St Teresa of Avila is one of thousands, Many are saints of the Discalced Carmelites, and many women OCD'''s who pray and follow St. John of the Cross. He prays for us when we are sincere in our desire for union w/ God. He and many of the OCD saints suffered for and w/ our Beloved.

Pray for us St John of the Cross that we have the courage to stand firm in our belief and trust in the Lord our God always. May we grow to Love our Lord more and more as St John of the Cross did. Amen 🙏 🙏 🙏

This was SO beautifully made! I immediately loved the character portraying John of the Cross. Leonardo is a master in portraying this type of contemplative. His portrayal of St. Maximillian Kolby was also excellent, and notably, as the father of Therese' De Lisieux, in THERESE'. And, his family apparently are taking cues from him 😄 As for St. John, I can relate at least somewhat with the story of his experience in the monastery, and being ridiculed by Friars of let's say, less than optimal allegiance to the expectations of a Religious. I won't recount all of that here, though. I also admire and long for John of the Cross' desire for holiness and perfection. I also am a contemplative, who has made strides, but have a long way to go to reach the heights this Saint had, that's for SURE! I have heard of his poetry, but haven't delved into it at all as of yet.. I will remedy THAT! Saint John of the Cross, pray for our beloved Catholic Church!!!

Very inspiring and it has given me an insight into my own vocation where nowhere is found to fill the emptiness within. I seek the same prayer life too though living in a different challenging world. May God give me strength.

What he preached was all good. Do all things to please God not the world. Accept all the sufferings because what is more important is God loves for us. If we accept all the trials and tribulations we will rise with Christ on the day of Judgement. When you truly love God, we will be able to accept all problems the world throws at us, like St. John of the cross.
