JOHN MORRA vs JESUS ATENCIO - 2024 Derby City Classic Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge

Спорт

The 2024 Derby City Classic Bigfoot 10-Ball Challenge kicked off with “Mr. Smooth” John Morra facing “The Golden Boy” Jesus Atencio in the first round.
Toronto’s John Morra is known for having retrained himself to shoot left handed, after a recurring shoulder injury, but he is known to the die-hards of the game as one of the most driven players in the sport, and always a danger to win any event he plays in.
Venezuela’s Jesus Atencio has become a regular at regional events here in the states. He is a multi-time Pan American Champion, but is still waiting for that first big American event win.
These players only get two chances a year to play on the Bigfoot 10’ table, and it takes some time to get used to. That was definitely the case in this match, as both players struggled to acclimate to the extra 20% of table size.
Mark Wilson and Jeremy Jones called the action.

I love the "no jump cue" rule. Makes for such a more interesting game.

Rarely hear from these guys about Bugs Rucker. Surely they encountered him at some time. I guess Bugs humiliated many pros, and evidently he was deemed a "magician" by many. Yet we rarely hear of any tales about his accomplishments. He was a great player.

One thing I've noticed, no one talks about, is the fact dominant eye alternation. If one doesn't practice shooting both handed, they can never beat their alternating eye dominance. It's an easy test. Cover a point in the distance with a finger with both eyes open. Then close one eye after another to see which of the two images of the finger is covering the object aimed at. Then you know which side of the brain is holding court. That's when you'll know which hand should be holding the butt of your cue. Another way to overcome this is to shift the head held over the aiming. The alignment isn't simple. Because our arm muscles are adjusted by the comfortable way we're used to exerting. That's why practicing with both hands is so important. Efren in his younger days would regularly play with one hand driving as much as the other. Thereby obviating the need for a bridge on many shots. Players these days think they can solve all their problems with a toy, the jump cue. They'll never attain the mastery of Reyes that way.
