Haha. I remember when critics were complaining that "Finish What You Started" was VH trying to cop John Mellencamp. Dude, he invented this sound in the 80s...well after stealing it from the Stones. 😄

This wasn't just a foot stomper. This was feet stomper. I couldn't sit still. I also couldn't help but remember the late 80s, and early 90s, as this song gives off the vibe of the music John was making at the time. From "Martha Say" to "Get a leg up".

I easily sense a future DJ Mashup of this and VH's song.

I’m glad they memorialized EVH with this song. Because this is almost an exact copy of Finish What You Started. I’m sure when I look up writing credits, Ed will be listed.

I hard this song on the radio in the 80's/90's. Back then they called it “Finish What You Started”.

Yeah normally I wouldn't even check out new music from these guys, just not a big fan or of much new music in general. But a friend sent this to me saying "sound familiar?" I haven't gone through the comments, but I'm sure a lot more agree with us than just the 👍 here. VH fans or no. I just happen be a lifelong fan, and the last show I went to was MammothWVH

The electric guitar part sounds just a little bit like Van Halen finish what you started. Just a little bit. Best song on this album I think. But I love all the songs.

So, because they both share some key-notes in their own songs, that means what, exactly ? Musicians can't develop their own styles? And if you *seriously* hear "similarities" to both songs ( and I've listened, carefully-- after some wanna-be-famous disc-jockey on a radio station rambled on about how John's song is lifted from Eddiie's) you don't have a truly musical ear.......as they're not even close!

Nice tune, enjoy the artists,,, BUT... the music is a slightly slower version of Van Hagar's, Finish what ya started... Not Nice, give them some credit/royalties.....

I liked Van Halen's version better.

Covers are a tricky thing. Usually you can never come close to what the original artist intended. Then you have the occasional Johnny Cash covering Hurt moment when the cover is completely different and just as good as the original. Unfortunately for Cougar, this isn't one of those moments.
