John McCain returns to the Senate for health-care vote (full speech)

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) gave a sweeping speech about his time in the Senate, the lack of bipartisanship today and his thoughts on the GOP health-care bill upon his return to Congress on July 25, after being diagnosed with brain cancer. Subscribe to The Washington Post on KZread: bit.ly/2qiJ4dy

"We're getting nothing done." That was the line that strucked me the most because it's a fact that most legislators now doesn't really care about the well-beings of their own constituents. It's all about winning now. Most of them won't even speak unless their political parties said so or it's a relevant issue to the public. Shame.

It's an amazing speech and it targets everyone in the room. Little did the GOP know Senator McCain was planning on snuffing out their party's attempt to abolish Obamacare. Aside from the Senate, you can hear the discreet swipe toward trump when he mentioned that Senators are not subordinate to the executive office. McConnell might've been the majority leader but it was John who held the power that day. It's such a shame that McCain made one last effort to remind everyone the importance and necessity of bi-partisanship because even in 2023, Congress is entrenched in both chambers still.

I find what McCain said inspirational and have often found the man to be the face of dignity among the Republicans during Trump's presidency, but I find it strange that he can give a 15 minute speech on the merits of bipartisanship and how the government should be run, then vote yes for a bill that was largely thrown together behind closed doors with almost zero oversight, accountability, or debate from the other side. Yes, he talked a good game and made a lot of prescient points, including the fact that this bill will require far more debate before anyone signs off on it, but I'm hard-pressed to think of a more blatant example of saying one thing and doing another.

"Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., underwent surgery last week to remove a blood clot from above his left eye. ... A two-inch blood clot was removed in a "minimally invasive craniotomy with an eyebrow incision." In this procedure, doctors cut the skin, remove a small piece of the skull and remove the blood clot in the front of the brain near the pituitary gland. They then replace the skull segment, may hold it in place with titanium plates and sew the patient up at the eyebrow hairline to leave the smallest scar possible. This approach is less painful than an open craniotomy and has faster recovery."

With much respect, there shouldn't be a McCain in the order of this running our futures. Cain is good where it's naturally grown. But, there. It's a good place to build a secure adult playground resort and take in guests as a fun vacation destination. Very lucrative and the trees are grown where the resorts oughtta keep the leaf there and safely there. In fact, if you outlaw their moving out of the area, it'll be an envied vacation resort destination for adults the world around. Huge. We don't. Have tested as young ppl in a normal youth way until it hated us and we retire the urge. That's my personal trick- hate myself with it so I can run and latch onto coffee or temporarily- beer - to wean fast and get tossed away from it (if tempted or pushed) for as many decades as possible. One -3 times and stay gone forever. Yes! Normal life! Thanks! Best business luck is near the roots. You're welcome!

AFTER VOTING TO MOVE THIS BILL INTO DEBATE. A Bill that was created by 13, old white guys, all of one party, behind closed doors. A bill that no amendment can create bi partisan support. f you do not see the IRONY, the speaking out of two sides of your mouth......of what he just did then you need to clean your ears out, study up on critical thinking, and take a few turns around the block......And if I were you, I would avoid those pesky door to door salesman.
