John Mayer - Old Love (@ the Red Rocks) Audio Only
Музыка
Live from the Red Rocks Amphitheater
Morrison, Colorado - 7/7/04
John Mayer plays a classic written by Eric Clapton and Robert Cray. The second of the two solos you will hear is played by bandmate David Ryan Harris, who has long been John's second guitar/vocalist.
I have heard many, many other versions of this cover by John, but this specific track is unparalleled by anything else in terms of its: audio quality (especially for a fan recording), content (both Mayer and David Ryan Harris play particularly well together in the song as a whole), length (at 10 minutes long, nothing is spared), and individuality (John strays from Clapton's original and makes it more of his own).
Please enjoy my contribution. As a fan of him myself, it is my hope that within any of these ten minutes, you will be compelled to agree with John's rightful belonging as one of the greatest blues musicians of our time--an idea which is slowly gaining ground with the public but not nearly as accepted enough.

My favorite thing about Mayer is that he never lets go of his roots...the roots that made him play. Clapton, Hendrix, SRV, BB King just to name a few are the musicians that he still covers to this day. Great musicians admire each other. Tuck 'em and kiss it if you don't like Mayer...you simply don't want to acknowledge greatness that stares at you through a 6-string.

The fact this was 20 years ago 😮
I mean, I don't know. He might be THE greatest musician of all time. I wouldn't ever burden someone with that title, but if I was going to, it might be him. Just the fact that you consider he's possibly in the top 100 means you agree with me on a certain level. Oh yes, and I'm SO glad Mayer isn't a blues musician. I'm so glad he's just John Mayer.

It’s all just personal opinion of course and not a contest, but I find Doyle Bramhall to be a more compelling artist across the board. He’s a bolder guitar player, a richer songwriter and a vastly more soulful singer. He also brings an authenticity and cool-factor / street-cred that Mayer seems to lack.

He’ll go down as one of the greatest guitarists ever I just hope his blues guitar is acknowledged over everything else. Dead & co is incredible, I mean the fact he was able to pick up that style so seamlessly with everything else he previously exposed himself to as an artist.. but I mean this dudes been creating his own blues style since a guitar was put in his hands and I think it needs to be recognized how he was able to blend all of the original styles so well together into his own. Jacob Messer hmmm how about all the great guitarists John took his licks from to make them his own. I mean this isn’t his song. It’s Eric Clapton and Robert Crays. What about giving them some credit? Do u think johns the only guitarist in the world? The list is long beginning with SRV. His fans seem clueless to me. Are u not guitarists? Most of you?! Hendrix, Clapton, do I have to do ur research. Broaden those horizons. C’mon u can do it. Googles ur friend. Books. Listen to cds of others. Good god You’d think he’s the only guy around. I think it's hilarious that I'd been saying that Erykah Badu stole Clapton's swagger on Call Tyrone. . .and then I find this. . .John Mayer busting out a little Badu during this cover. PRICELESS
The Chorus interpolates Erykah Badu-Tyrone. Tyrone is is basically the same song as Old Love, same chord progression. Mayer has a good ear and and obviously listens to alot of different music. This is great

That "Kid" is John Mayer. He's 35. And he made a rendition of this song based off of his own feel of guitar, singing, and music altogether. It's called a cover for a reason.
the clapton vocals are incomparable
He's also throwing Erykah Badu's Tyrone into the mix, brilliant.
David Ryan Harris... Sheesh
Wow! This is pretty funny because I almost put up the same version, but for some reason, the mp3 wouldn't work with the video format. Anyway, thanks for doing it for me!! This version is AWESEOME . . . (especially the end where DRH and John play eachothers guitars . . . through the audio, it sounds kind of lame . . . but if you saw it live, it was awesome)
DRH rips it up in this version too. damn!
I can feel your body When I'm lying in bed There's too much confusion Going around through my head And it makes me so angry To know that the flame still burns Why can't I get over? When will I ever learn? wheres the "love" button??? It seems that youtube thinks "like" is enough...
