I got the 4 LP box and was really pleased with the new mixes. I got the Imagine CD box when that came out. I think Sean and Yoko are doing a nice job with this series of reissues.

Thanks for the fantastic overview. That book looks amazing, especially the information about each song so it would be a hard decision if one had to choose. I'm not really a completist, so it would be a hard decision. I like those flip storage bins as I might have a use for them. Thanks for sharing. ---Randy

I wholeheartedly agree with you Mazzy, no one needs it but they want it. He’s a legend, I’m glad this has been made available. I agree also, the gold border is meh. The vinyl box design is on point. It is not an audiophile recording by any stretch. The highs are somewhat muted. I noticed that on Whatever Gets You Through Night, Elton John’s background vocals are almost non existent, that was great for me, because his voice annoys the hell out of me on that tune. Gimme Some Truth sounded better than the original. Yes, it goes back and forth as you said. The originals are better all around, it is generally how are ears are used to hearing them, grittier, punchier, faster. Having said that, the new remixes sound refreshing, fit in well with today’s sound. I think they did a fantastic job. Great for young people who are discovering John Lennon. Timeless and still a relevant artist.

That Gimme Some Truth set is extremely tempting. I already have two of the Lennon comps you showed and I am torn about buying another. The for corners with Poetry on Plastic was great. I am still working my way through your recent one with Steve Carlson.

Storage, the eternal vinyl addict problem. I would love the flip floor storage units but with a 16 month old energetic dog , that’s gonna be an expensive mistake. Every time I unload a few I seem to buy double what I’ve just lost and you keep showing great stuff which is not getting any easier on the storage or the wallet. Love the videos , my go to Covid lockdown pleasure. Stay safe.

Really interested in your opinion on this release.I don’t own a lot of John’s solo albums in vinyl, so I went with the 4 LP set..I have been really impressed, I agree with you on the muted highs, My system is a bit on the high side as well, so no issue with that. I liked the vocal mixes..My fav cuts were Working Class Hero, Imagine, God, Steel and Glass..One of the reasons I didn’t go for the CD set with the book is because in my experience, I look at the book once or twice and it gets put back in the box never to be seen again..thanks Mazzy...👍👍❤️❤️glen kellaway .....P.S..As I watch this and comment, I am not in the basement.

John looks like Sean. I like CDs in the book format when dealing with a legacy. Sean interviewing Paul McCartney was good just to hear their voices in conversation. Yes Julia was his grandmother.

Hi Mazzy, Firstly I do not buy as much music as I would like but when it comes to LENNON I make room in my budget. Do I need this...oh, I need it and I got it. I have all of his albums and many of his box sets and I think Universal, Sean and Yoko have done the LENNON legacy justice. Justice, in the sense to add clarity and polish already the most vital catalogs from the one half of the best songwriting unit ever... and to promote it for current and future generations. Thank you for doing that. My kids and my wife know of my passion for LENNON and they often buy me a book of his. Sad that he only had one quarter of the Macca's catalog but it remains the most important. LENNON is my favorite Beatle followed by George and then Macca. Don't get me wrong... love Macca's music and his genius with a melody but LENNON is deep and affects so much more. I mean who writes' Life is what happens to you when you're busy making other plans." When my son needed to get operated for his appendix.... I sang Beautiful Boy before he went under the knife. That is how important LENNON is to me. Thank you Mazzy for this gorgeous and impeccable review of a MUST box set. Enjoyed your Part II of the video as well. Oh I got the new Kansas which is outstanding. You see... I heed your advice, Mazzy. I agree wholeheartedly. God bless and keep well, Tino

I enjoyed your piece there. There are 'others' out there who just talk about how wonderful every thing they review is, just because it's a certain artist. These to me are worthless. John would be the first to admit not everything he did was wonderful, and that to me is how everything should be viewed. The title says it all! Anyway wasn't bowled over at on first listening, but coming around more and more I listen to these mixes, with John's vocal very much pushed up higher.Haven't heard the clipping yet, but will listen out for that more intently going forward. The packaging is very special, although I could do without a folded up poster.Oh well to each his or her own. Thanks for a very 'TRUTHful' review. Happy to subscribe and listen to more. Peace #staysafe

So it looks like the new Lennon is at least a very interesting experience. Somehow i like that, they took a different way of remastering. Not the audiophile but the way of "modernization", if i understood you correct Mazzy.

Yes the new set is very different sound-wise. Some might say less overall depth and dimension maybe but interesting just the same. The vocals really stand out now with more clarity. Deeper fuller bass on some tracks on the new set which some older folks don’t seem to love but I do. Some tracks work better than others. Some if the dirty rock n roll angst is missing but again, we have the originals for that. Most people won’t compare versions. ✌🏻

One could argue that since vinyl is a medium that requires your time anyway, that maybe if you have to work a little to read the song titles it’s not that big of a deal. A small compromise for the consumer to make for the sake of art. Gorgeous packaging and graphic design on those Lennon sets. Agree on the gold border, but at least there is continuity with the gold overlays on the photographs within. Still wanting to pick up that Yo La Tengo reissue. I can’t decide how I feel about the new Sufjan. “America” is good. The electro-pop stuff coming from him is something I need to adjust to a little. The Machuca Analog Africa comp sounds really cool.

Your review was an eye opener, i was going to get the comp on cd, but you made a case for not to, I already have the remastered cds plus the comp, Lennon Legend, not sure if I need this, watched other reviews and they made it sound like you can't live without it. I love your cd shelves in the background, are those custom made? I need something like that, my cds are all over the place, lol.

Before I watch this video I need to ask the question that should be on everyone's mind and that is... Do we really need another John Lennon collection in all our lives? I guess I will find out. I have the “Lennon Legend” album and another comp called “Working Class Hero”. Unless the mixes are amazing why should I buy the same songs again. This looks like a record label cash grab! It's a must album for you Mazzy because I know your a collector of box sets. I think most box sets are over priced and for what you get with them a waist of money. Why would I want Johns music mixed the way he did not want them mixed. There are some albums that need a better mix his Rock & Roll album for one could do with a better mix on the whole album. Its nice for Sean to be apart of making this comp. I do not think it is a must buy. Nice review Mazzy thank you for Giving Some Truth about the new box set. I can tell you are really happy to have the two box sets. I am pleased you like them. See you in 10 years time for the John Lennon at 90 box set.

Hi, I bought the 4LP set and the CD/DVD box set. I am really satisfied with these sets, a very nice way to honour John. But ...... I hate paper inner sleeves. I immediately replaced them with polylined ones. Like you said, the design is nice, but why no polylined sleeves? But I prefer Shaved Fish as the ultimate compilation, maybe because of sentimental reasons, being 13 years old and buying the record back in 1975.

You talked about the album "Mind Games", but this album has been "remixed and remastered" in the early 2000's as the other albums. The improvement is urge comparing to the original mix. This album with "Rock'n'Roll" are the 2 which became fantastic to listen. I even prefer the mix of the song "Mind Games" on the remixed album "Mind Games" than the new mix includes on "Gimme Some Truth".

I have to agree with mazzy’s conclusion about gimme some truth, on my hifi system ( i play the cd ) johns voice sounds great, but the music overall has a lot of bass and not enough high tones to my taste, maybe that is the reason john’s voice sounds so pronounced, 🇳🇱

How much Lennon is too much - it's obviously very subjective and depends on how much money anybody can afford to spend. Your book finally arrived the other day "The Beatles' England" - interesting & a very different approach. I just started my own channel - you might find my second video interesting - not a smooth as you.

It's interesting that John's 70s output sonically wasn't great but Paul's 70s catalogue with maybe the exception of London town sounds pretty good. I guess this is because Paul was always more interested in production than John ever was. I haven't bought Gimme Some Truth yet but I will at some point, that's because I wanted to pick up Tom Petty's Wildflowers And All The Rest Deluxe set first which is an amazing set. Do you have the intention to get one of these sets, Mazzy? Loving the content by the way and as for your politics I think another term with the narcissistic nutjob and the US won't be great again but it will sink even more into being the laughing stock of most of the civilised world.
