I see Brazilians upset but John John won this close heat because his ability to combo his moves is flawless, especially the high scoring wave was so smooth. Still Silva was ripping and against anyone else he probably wins that heat.

wasn't close. Even JJ 's simple moves are complete, have flow and style. Silva 's moves remind me of someone chopping wood; no flow, no beauty.

Why the claims? I’d be embarrassed.

Great heat john ripped ,david you did amazing also

an 8.53 for the last ride is insane. the first hit was good but not great, the second turn was a critical but then a little speed float and didn’t fully ride out. how is that even close to a 8.53. john’s first ride had 4 clean and critical turns but got scored less than silvas last wave. the judges are clueless

I swear the Brazilians will claim robbery even when it wasn’t even close 😂 Silva in no way shape or form won that heat. They even overscored his last wave to make it closer so the Brazilians would stop bitching. Like why do you guys even watch if all your gonna do is bitch about everything?

Excellent surfing. John John's turns are just so exceptional! How he draws speed out of a drawn out cutback is totally incredible. That was so exceptional they both deserved to go through. Deivid was right on the bricks there at the end and it's kind of a double ditch situation. But his speed and power and 12 o'clock delivery was beautiful to watch. As good as a final! 👏👏

That last wave was way over scored. Two non-vertical turns and didn't even finish cleanly. One judge gave it a 9?? Lol

Yeah pretty ridiculous. It was in no way an excellent ride, 7.5 at most.

Judges rewarding Johns style variety and flow, while Silva had big turns he looks twitchy and forced. Not great flow and clearly not great style🤷🏼‍♂️

I agree JJ approach was a beautiful sight to behold and he showed how the wave should be surfed. But Silva was exciting to watch! Shame the waves will suck the rest of the comp. This year has sucked for waves!

You have no idea, John way over scored surfed out on the face doing carves, Silva went absolutely beserk, upside down reos hitting the lip with speed in the most critical part of the wave, blowing the fins out. Silvas 6.8 was better than his first 8 Judges pushing John through because he's had a slow start and isn't going to make the final five Shame shame shame WSL

I can’t believe how the Brazilians have to whine about every loss. This heat has a very clear winner, and he’s got blond hair!

Close but JJF had the better flow and linked together more maneuvers, silva had a bigger wave but only 2 real big maneuvers and a float. Close heat but JJF won that fair.

They both surfed well but John finished waves a little more cleanly. Also, Devid got a huge score on the first wave with just two maneuvers, not sure about that one.

I agree, but do you remember who scored a 10 with a single radical maneuver in the critical Spot of the wave? John surfed eye candy, but in a save way. For me you have to make it all the way and DS did not on his last try, thats what i question.

People should be glad that high speed flowing power surfing still gets the job done, it even seems that Cole has inspired other guys to step up their game. Not as if the guys on their forehands in conditions like this really have variety neither, JJ gets scored mostly on his power as well and its mostly always the same couple of turns.
