Hands Down, the most VASTLY UNDERRATED leading man of Hollywood's Golden Era. Of the thirty one John Garfield movies listed in your video, I have seen seventeen of them and his performances in all the movies I've seen were downright excellent as far as l'm concerned. Just my opinion but Mr. Garfield truly deserved both his Oscar nominations for FOUR DAUGHTERS and BODY AND SOUL. However, I also think John should of been nominated for an Oscar in 1946 for THE POSTMAN ALWAYS RINGS TWICE plus HE DESERVED TO WIN THE OSCAR in 1950 for his BRILLIANT performance in THE BREAKING POINT. Other favorite Garfield movies include DESTINATION TOKYO, HE RAN ALL THE WAY, and GENTLEMEN'S AGREEMENT. Great video, sir. Thanks for posting it.

Thank you Greg, glad you liked it. The ratings on these videos are simply a guideline and not set in stone. I'm thinking of revising and expanding a bunch of my older videos some time next year. I've already expanded my John Wayne top 40 into a top 100.

You got it right! Postman is Garfield's number 1 film! Those scenes between Garfield and Turner absolutely sizzle!!!

I have seen 16 of Garfield's top 31 movies. I enjoy him in all his films. My favourites are The Postman Always Rings Twice, Destination Tokyo, They Made Me a Criminal, The Sea Wolf, and Between Two Worlds. Great posters and still photographs.

IMO, "Nobody Lives Forever" (1946) is a very interesting film noir which is often overshadowed by "The Postman Always Rings Twice", which was released the same year. Garfield is a returning war vet who finds that his nightclub singer girlfriend (Faye Emerson) has been cheating on him. He takes up with wealthy young widow Geraldine Fitzgerald, intending to charm her out of her fortune, but falls in love with her instead. Of course, this just means trouble! Check it out, if you haven't seen it. I love your videos, keep up the great work!

Thanks! I will keep an eye out for that film next time it comes on TV. I thought the title "Nobody Lives Forever" would make a great James Bond title and recently discovered there is a Bond novel with that name. :) Cheers.

I've seen Nobody Lives Forever and it is indeed a great noir.

Four Daughters should have been in the top five. It is a movie classic.& JG should have received an Oscar nomination for The Breaking Point.

First of all....great posters on a great actor that time has sadly forgotten. #24 He Ran All The Way Home...have not seen it....but I have read the book on his life that has the same name. #19 We Were Strangers...very disappointed with this one. #11 Destination Tokyo....good movie but this is a Grant movie with Garfield in a supporting role. #6 Gentleman's Agreement...Best Picture Oscar winner. #4 Humoresque....he and Crawford made a good team. #1 Postman Always Rings Twice....his classic. The one I want to watch is #15 Between Two Worlds....sounds like a Sixth Sense type movie. Good video .....voted up.

Hello Bruce, thanks for the comment much appreciated. Garfield only appeared in 31 full length films so I decided to include them all on the video, he does have small supporting roles in some of them. You know more about Garfield than I do. I only know him from a handful of films I've seen him in. He did pick up two Oscar nominations during his brief time in the movies before his untimely death at the age of 39.

I'm not sure I agree with the listing, but I'm a JG fan. In general, as films go, I think Force of Evil is overrated and Breaking Point is underrated.

Well there's only a fraction of a point between those two movies. Do you agree with the top two?

Body & Soul is one of my all time favorite movies but Postman is a great one too so I have no quibble with those choices.

I am the biggest Garfield fan...I have all his movies...and bios!!! This list is ok but the Postman is not his # 1 movie...Pride of the Marines should be higher...Body and Soul could be # 1 of The breaking Point. Postman should be like # 8. The Fallen sparrow should be much higher. I know because I have seen all his movies many times! Best actor ever!!!

Thanks for posting. I suppose a list like this should only be done by a dedicated fan not by calculating a few ratings. How did you become a huge fan? Why do you like this actor so much? Was your father a fan too?

I agree with the top 2. He ran all the way is way too low. Should be in the top 10. On the other hand Juarez is way too high.

Terrible listing..Fallen Sparrow should be much higher. Body and Soul should be # 1 and Hollywood Canteen and thank your lucky stars Garfield had cameo's in those movies the list is really messed up!
