I actually know more of the words to this song, than our actual national anthem and I think that's true for almost every Aussie. It is universally loved across all classes and ages. It's a brilliant song by a brilliant singer. Interestingly, many black folks in the USA also love it.

The crowd kept singing when it was turned off and the match had to wait until the crowd stopped singing. John’s nickname is Jack, the album that song was released on was called Whispering Jack. John is 72 now and still has the voice! By the way, years ago after one such concert, the audience lingered on in the carpark that towered above the rear exit to the concert hall. There were audience members on every level, hanging out looking over and down at the rear exit, waiting for John to appear. After quite some time, he came out with a few people and the whole car park let out a cheer just like they had done inside the concert hall. John spent the next five minutes trying to quieten everyone, and when he succeeded, he shouted back to us at the top of his lungs, “THANK YOU!!!” And the cheers went back up again, 😜👍❤️🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺 We love this guy! Even today, nothing has changed apart from the addition of a belly and a few wrinkles, he’s still our John!

Mate... If you ever want to find a bunch of (or any) Aussies anywhere in the world, all you have to do is crank up the volume on this song & we (I’m an Aussie myself) will come FLYING out of the woodwork to sing this 🇦🇺🤟😉🇦🇺. This song has anthem-like status here & I can think of many more songs that would get similar vocal responses from Aussies in a group, like: “Working Class Man” - Jimmy Barnes “The Land Down Under” - Men at Work “It’s a long way to the top (if you wanna rock & roll) - AC/DC “Am I ever gonna see your face again” - The Angels ....If you watch the last one (The Angels), you need to make sure it’s a LIVE version & listen for the crowds’ epic, 6-word response when the lead singer asks “the question”.... Any of my fellow Aussies here will know EXACTLY what I’m talking about 🇦🇺🤘😝🤘🇦🇺

Farnsie’s voice is pure joy. It’s such a privilege to have grown up with his performances. It’s a real treat to know others outside Australia appreciate his talents, too. Whispering Jack was one of his most successful albums and released some of his best known songs. ‘Classic Jack’ is a nod to that album.

this song was John's big return to musical success. His career had dipped but he returned with a bang with this huge hit. As a result of this song, we all refer to John as The Voice. His concerts are renowned - you saw the size of the audience. You are right that he creates involvement and emotion with his audience. As a note - John is sometimes referred to as Jack (from his album and concert tour called Whispering Jack).

Most people can sing ONE kind of song. John can sing ANY kind of song!! It's not just his singing pipes for particular kinds of songs like it is with most of the better singers. It's the sheer VARIETY of songs he can sing!!

John Farnham a British born Australian mainly stuck to concerts in his home country and quite a few over here in New Zealand. He never really was what you would call a mega star, but throughout Aussie & NZ he is an icon. With such a powerful voice it was the live performances he loved, interacting with his fans, John would strive to make sure the crowd walked away from a stunning concert. He even had a bit of joke here & there. For me he has the most powerful, unique voice I've ever heard. Another thing about him every time he said about retiring, nope he just could not do it. Farnham is in his early 70's and it was only a few years back he did a small concert in Auckland NZ, he never missed a note just as awesome as the time before. I really hope you check out some of his other songs, 'Thats Freedom' 'Reasons' 'Two Strong Hearts' 'When The War Is Over' and the ever popular 'Pressure Down' of course they're my favourites but every time he sings live it's with his fans in mind, also it's more powerful. I hope this gives you more insight to the great icon, at least most of what I know.

Your the Voice is always his FIRST encore performance at the end of his concerts. Then he does another song then at the 2&1/2 hour mark he finishes with Help. Each encore sounds like the beginning of the concert. He has incredible stamina on stage and that voice would sound perfect 5 hours later. You can't get better than our John. Watch Help live and a live duet with our other favourite son Jimmy Barnes.

This is going back to 1986 I think when this song was released & John still had that beautiful long hair. His voice is phenomenal & his concerts as u can see are spectacular. Aussies love him & have done for 50 years. The only other voice I could mention is Russell Hitchcock who fronts another Australian band called Air Supply. They began in 1975 & are still touring, check them out too.

This is Australia 👍🏿🇦🇺 John Farnham is the 'Voice' - I think this song is relevant especially today - won't go into political view, but Aussies staying strong and this song resonates today👏

Kind of mad at myself for how much I love this song after seeing it a bunch of times on reactors pages. Music is so weird, emotionally. Some serious formulas out there.

Love your reactions and the fact that you equally split the screen. All others I've watched have the performer in a little thumbnail while they take up most of the screen. Good on ya. You need to watch it again with your eyes open so you can see him pick up the mic stand. Very cool. But I'm glad you got lost in the music. John just surgery to remove cancer in his mouth. Wish him well and send him love. Be safe everyone.

I actually call him the 8th natural wonder of the world 🌎 😮 He is the G.O.A.T. He can sing any genre and still had the range and the power right up to his cancer op and he is back singing around the house, joking around, dancing. His is a beautiful soul and just makes you feel so good ❤🎉

He can still sing - I've included a link from Queen's site with him, Brian May, Olivia Newton-John and Mitch Tambo from last years Firefight benefit concerts which shows how good he still is. kzread.info/dash/bejne/nqWesLmufZXgXbQ.html
