The thing that amazes me about John is that every performance I have heard is ready to slap on a cd and release. Every performance is release standard.

@kaylaharmer333 about 20 years ago...he didn't sound too good then and from memory his hair was blue. Anyway, which one? Robert or James? Or are you getting confused with Jimmy Barnes?

I don’t know how he can do this with that long sleeved shirt on 😂 John is a horse man, he’s good with a rope or lassoo and also was a plumbers’ apprentice so definitely very nimble with those mic tricks!

The keytar/keyboard player is David Hirschfelder. An academy award nominated composer. At that time he was musical director of the band, and was also one of the co-writers of the song. You still haven’t heard John sing a gentle ballad, opera, straight pop, country and western, motown, even swing. There’s no genre he can’t master.

This is one of my favorites from John, such an inspiration song. John’s voice is top tier, and also his band. And John loves his mic stand and mic tricks, often throwing the stand meters in the air and catching it while performing. Awesome.

Thanks, another terrific review 😊 John can sing any genre. He sings, *Old McDonald Had Farm*, it’s so funny lol - to Opera with our Aussie Phantom Of The Opera opera, Anthony Warlow singing *Granada* both on KZread, which was also funny, but he can hit the notes of an opera singer - and have fun. And everything in between He’s sang for about 50 years. Yes we love and admire our John dearly.

And it's not just the notes, he seems to be able change not just his volume, tone, timbre, vibrato, etc. They may be the same notes, but he can change whether it is a sharper or raspier version that's needed, to perfectly support the person he's singing next to. I don't know enough about music to describe it properly, but just as a note played on a bagpipe is loud and bold, and the same note on a Piccolo is soft and sweet, and different again on a heavy metal guitar, a Cello, a Bassoon or a Bass Drum, JF can make his voice match that 'feeling' of each of them.

John throwing his mic stand around is a regular thing at his concerts. When he was with The Little River Band his band mates threatened to tape his stand to the floor to stop him from throwing it around. 😂👍🇦🇺

I mean, you just don't get more entertaining than John, just such an amazing performer, and that's before you even get to the phenomenal voice! Thank you for this, so glad to see you guys doing more of him! You're absolutely correct about the band too - John surrounded himself with brilliant musicians who were just as passionate about their craft as he is, and you can see the fun they're all having in every performance. It's a testament to the kind of person he is that that most of his band stayed with him for decades. There are people in this video from 1990 who were there in his first comeback concerts in 1987 and still there the last time he performed, in 2020. That includes Brett Garsed, the brilliant guitarist who you guys love so much!

John Farnham IS the GOAT .This song has some interesting history ! John was asked to join the Australian world-famous band, The Little River Band/ LRB when their singer left. John's career was not going that well at the time, partly to do with bad management. As the band were well established and John was the newcomer he was expected to toe the line and bow to the inner politics of the group. He at first did but felt that his wings had been clipped. The stumble on the stage in this song demonstrated and re-enacted what some of the band members did to him. They secretly taped down the microphone cord so he could not move around (as his level of energy requires him to do) and gain attention, but stay in the one place. However, when he tried to move , he stumbled as the microphone cord wouldn't go with him . He ripped it up from being taped down. John eventually left the band. And one of LRB, Glenn Wheatley, became his manager and good friend and others are in the backing band on stage with him here as those members of LRB loved and respected John.. This was the song that John wrote about that experience ! John Farnham's backing band and singers are the BEST. The keytarist here and John's musical director at that time, David Hirschfelder, is a world-renowned composer of music, particularly for films and has won many awards. You will always be surprised by John as he sings in over 20 genres, and always changes his music up with his outstanding vocal gymnastic ability. Adam Stolfo has made a four part video series on the genres John sings and it's on YT . I love this beautiful, top-talented, humble and funny man !

I don’t know if you’ve seen it or not, but John also does a killer version of the iconic AC/DC hit “It’s a long way to the top (if you wanna rock & roll” that is mind-blowing, both with his own band & he performed a mesmerising version of it with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Singing comes so naturally that he has to keep himself entertained with side tricks. Did everyone notice him jumping but his voice doesn't waiver, that is diaphragm control, most people can't even count to 10 while jumping, trying to concentrate on the numbers and how they sound. JF also squats down to face level with a girl in the front row in one song and it doesn't change his tone, pitch, delivery, etc.

In the Australian music industry, there have been & still are many artists who have earned their “legend” status but John is way beyond that… He is an icon in this country ☝️😁🇦🇺. Sadly, his health hasn’t been too great lately but anyone who’s seen him perform live over the years KNOWS how much of an awesome show “Whispering Jack” (one of his nicknames) would ALWAYS deliver 💥👍😁💥

Even more 'bad ass' is when he throws the mic stand up in the air and then catches it and then throws it away again lol I think it was in You're The Voice...but haven't got time to check lol...someone will correct me if I'm wrong. The concert with The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra 'every' song is epic. His AC/DC cover of 'Long Way To The Top' (if ya wanna rock n roll) is nothing short of brilliant. Love your channel
