Both have been in and out of fashion. They have sung together for charity quite often. John has been WAY luckier in love. Melbourne hearts are with them both. At that time Olivia had already started her journey with breast cancer. Mine was in 1997 and I met her and she shook my hand. We both wished each other good luck. My male friends were extra caring towards me then, just as John was towards Olivia. I think that had a lot to do with the intimacy that you saw between them here.

He talked to me, asked me if I was having a party, sang me happy birthday, we took some photos and he gave me a signed program, hat and a slice of his birthday cake. @@breeanaflannery great to hear that John did that for you and more so for a 8 year old...He is the perfect example of a great man. I've met him too a couple of times through being a musician and myself doing Carpentry/Joinery work at studios around Sydney back in the late 80's and 90's and one time at studios 301 John and band were rehearsing and I was having a lunch break listening. They had a break and John came over to me and we spoke. He asked me about carpentry stuff and him being a plumber...well we had that building connection. I spoke about being a musician and he said "Come and listen to rehearsal if you want too" I said "UMMM yeah" To be 3 metres away from John singing and hearing the sheer power and control of his voice beyond the PA is something I'll never forget. It was so empowering and overwhelming. What we see from John on tele and in concert is exactly the same thing I saw in him in person. As you said...he's just down to earth and genuine. Thats one of the main things I got from John. Good on him for singing Happy Birthday and you had cake too 👍👍🔨🥁🇦🇺

I love your emotion too, and I'm not ashamed to say that it brought tears to my eyes just knowing how it affected you also. It did that night, and it does every time I see this. Gosh bawling with emotion during this song. You are such a great analyst with songs. I’m so happy to see someone as passionate about our Aussie iconic singers. The one thing you will realise that farnsy, barnsy, and that generation of Aussie singers are so down down to earth, humble and love a good laugh.

While Australia is huge land size wise....it is small population wise and has a closer knit community with singers and celebrities...this has the effect of many of them knowing each other as actual friends as opposed to the US where there are more famous people and while many may know of or have seen other celebs, don't know or are not friends with eachother. It's just a closer knit community.

I love this. I was actually at that concert. It was called "The Main Event" and it was the best ever. There was John, Olivia and Anthony Warlow. The three of them had such a chemistry. They clowned around, you could see they're all great mates. Olivia said she's always wanted to sing with John Farnham. You've already done a reaction to John and Anthony about a week ago. You're spot on with your comments. Don't take any notice of your critics. You've got a lot of people following you!

Liv and John has worked quite a bit together as had John & Ant. This concert series was, however, the first time Liv & Ant had ever performed together. How she kept a straight face with those two unrepentent crack-ups is quite remarkable !! What is indisputable was that putting these 3 great artists together didn't just "work", the chemistry absolutely clicked on all levels and this series of concerts were absolutely memorable.

Wow that is sooooo good..... Perfectly complimenting each other..... And to address your wonder at his awesome perfect voice and range.... well we grew up listening to him through his career and just knew him originally as Johnny Farnham..... and that's just how he sings..... so I didn't realise how damn good he was until the album Whispering Jack came out. And now to see him over 70 and can still belt it out almost as good as ever is fantastic

Yay… Nick they grew up together as fantastic singers in their own genres and remained the best of friends. It’s so sad that Olivia is no longer with us, but John has always loved Olivia immensely, but not in the way that real love is. He loved her as the incredible woman and legend that she was. They were both very young legends of their respective genres 🤩🇦🇺🇦🇺👏❤

The acting and this kiss at the end is very typical of their era, Olivia always kisses friends on the lips. If you watch Olivia duet with Andy Gibb and Cliff Richard she does the same thing, in the 70's they tended to do that intense eye contact and acting the song out was a part of it.

Ok,so to answer your question about chemistry etc. John Farnham and Olivia Newton-John were both involved in the Australian music scene from young adults. They are both dedicated vocalists who understand lyrics and story telling through song, they brought the emotion needed to the performance. John has been happily married to the same woman, Jill, since 1973. BTW, so glad others outside of Australia get the gooseys when they listen to John .

Olivia Newton-John's voice can be heard in JAWS during the scene in which poor little Alex Kintner is taken by the shark. In the film she is on the radio singing a cover of the Peter Allen song "I Honestly Love You" which was a big hit for her around the world. She has a Country music background (singles include "If Not For You", "Let Me Be There", "Banks of the Ohio", "Take Me Home Country Roads") but moved more fully into pop after GREASE in 1978 and XANADU in 1980 before releasing her album Physical in 1981. Farnham comes out of the vaudevillian traditions of music theatre and cabaret, which is one of the reasons why he is a natural easygoing entertainer: years and years of practice performing for tough crowds going back to the 1960s.
