Great video and explanation. Just picked up the bolts at Ace Hardware and going home to put the clutch and two new tie rods on.

Great video! Having a similar issue with a 2019 HPX815E Diesel Gator. Pulled the primary clutch no problem and ultrasonically cleaned it. Clutch compresses and releases by hand but the rollers on the spider that limit the travel of the flyweights are only about 270 degrees complete--is this normal or evidence of extreme wear? I would have expected them to be 360 degrees round... A detailed photo of the ends of the spider showing the rollers would be very useful. Also, has anyone had any proven success with an aftermarket primary clutch? The John Deere parts ought to be called "Dear Parts" because they want $700 now for a replacement AM13887!

Your video was very helpful. Today I had to put a new primary clutch on. But, I am having a issue with that old clutch bolt. Once I got it on and tighten it up, the clutch would have way to much play, i.e. , the clutch would even touch my chain. Do I need a shorter bolt now that the clutch number changed? And, if so, what size and length?

I don't recall the length of the bolt, I think it was pretty long though. Are you using the original bolt?

@@Hubjeep Yes, but it seems to long for my new clutch because once tightened down, I could move the clutch all the way over to the chain.

How did this clutch hold up? I just got a 855D and need to replace the belt, and possibly the clutch. Just curious if the eBay clutch held up

Hi, it's still working like new! I got it on ebay, it's an OEM part. I put less than 100 hours on my Gator a year.

Hey man I too have a project gator diesel 6 x 4 and have just been too pre-occupied to get to it. We put a rebuild on the motor and cranked it only to find that it had a warped head. had it shaved and re worked. Not sure what else to do but try myself to fix it. I discovered that I had a bad fuel cut off solenoid. The last mechanic killed the battery and starter trying to start it with a closed fuel solenoid. It has been sitting for 5 years prior but is so close to running. Might need to call on you for advice sometime.

How did you hold the clutch when tightening it to50Nm?

  • @Hubjeep

That's about 36 lb/ft, was able to hold by hand/engine compression as I recall.

@@redetroitwing you must not have heard about the engine management software saga and how most US farmers have pirated diagnostic software as JD wouldn't sell it to ANYBODY but themselves. I think they've rescinded that but probably now charge double for parts instead, lol. I just want to keep one running for a bit and pattern service parts are pretty reasonably priced in the UK at least. Don't forget though - as with every vehicle - to service them properly and regularly or you're in a world of pain. Stuff like blocked airfilters (these have 2) can wreck piston rings, etc. and cost more on fuel as well as make it slow and smokey. Clutches are £500 here btw lol...
