Always wanted a 4440 so for this past Christmas I bought one. Also have a 4450. 4440 quickly becoming my favorite. Something special about the 40 series. 26,000 is what I spent on myself for Christmas. New seat , alternator an hydraulic outlets she's operating perfectly!! It'll operate past my time on earth.

Plus Deere Dealerships won't let you fix them yourself, even though you own the machine outright. That's just insane. Don't know if any other brand has adopted this 'marketing strategy', but it seems to me to be a good way to lose customers !

Thanks for the memories. Thanks to an accident I'm a quadriplegic now and the only thing I can operate is my wheelchair but I grew up driving the 4440 from a young boy and into my 20s. The 4630 was our highest horsepower tractor on the farm but the 4440 had a special place in my heart. I suppose the countless hours I spent in it pulling the discbine in the hay fields has something to do with that.

Quad Range offered 16 forward and 6 reverse speeds. Powershift in alternate places, 1-2 & 3-4.basicly added Hi/Lo shifting to the Synchro Range. Great, solid tractors that were a natural progression for farmers that relied on 4020's as main working units.👍🚜

The 540/1000 PTO is why this model sold so well the next model up only had 1000rpm PTO. The best thing John Deere did on the new 8000 series was the optional large 1000 PTO the small 1000pto and 540pto. Many times they are used for batwing mowers, disk mowers and round balers, for the ride & air conditioning farmers like to enjoy the bigger tractors even the flexibility of running an old auger on 540pto is nice.

The 1979 4440 I bought new was a nightmare. Bolts were loose. Seat hydraulics leaked. When I would turn the heater fan on, the radio would turn all static. The back wheel fell off while I was plowing cause it never got tightened at the factory. When the dealer put the rock box on, they stripped the cast frame threads. Then JD finance went to 20% interest. Never bought another tractor again financed by Deere! Best economics lesson I ever got! Oh, and the air conditioning worked good only in winter.

2:35 The quad range transmission actually had SIXTEEN forward speeds and six reverse. My dad and uncle both had 4440s. One thing not mentioned was the much larger fuel tank - about 60 gallons compared to around 40 gal. on the 4430. That hydra-cushion seat was revolutionary and a real back-saver on rough ground. It's really hard to imagine any shortcomings of the 4440. From baling hay to plowing, they were a dream to drive.

Just a side note,,,,,,,,,,Quad range transmission had 16 speeds forward and 8 reverse, had that transmission on my 4030 and syncro range on my 4630. 4440 was a great tractor to replace the 4430 plus it had twice as many lights, GREATLY NEEDED. Always wanted a 4640 myself. Thanks for the video.

My dad bought a 480-acre farm/ dairy in 1962. I was 6 years old. The old lady that sold it to him, her husband passed away, and none of their children wanted to farm it. So Dad got it at a steal. It came with a lot of farm equipment. My Dad was a John Deere man, but the farm came with 2 practically new Farmall IH560's. And an Oliver 770. And of course, by the time my feet could reach the clutches and break, my dad had me on one. In the 70s, he sold one of the Farmalls to my uncle and bought a brand new John Deere 4020. And then I thought we were in high cotton when he bought a John Deere 4440 with a/c cab. I loved farming with my Dad and Grandpa, who lived with us. But in December of 1982, I lost my Dad from a massive heart attack a week before Christmas and my grandpa on Christmas day😢. I wanted to keep running the farm. But my dad never made a will. So my hateful mother sold all the land except for 5 acres. I begged her not to sell, and I would even buy the land. But she made a will and gave everything to my sister. When she died, I didn't even go to her funeral! I was not her pick. I should have taken her to court and contested her will. (You only have a year). And to this day, my always unwed, ugly ass sister still lives in the old farmhouse by herself. I hope the old farmhouse falls down around her one day. I truly miss those farming days sitting all day on a tractor smelling the fresh dirt. But most of all, I miss my dad and grandpa.
