"IT'S CONTEH"!.....(followed by the cheers and pictures of the mayhem in the ring). Can you imagine any of today's commentators using such great brevity of words now? I doubt it! Harry always knew when it was best to keep quiet!

John Conteh did well for himself, but for his alleged love of wine, women, and song he might have become so much more. Sadly the talent eroded quickly, and he'd had the talent, could punch, was very sharp and possessed the natural spite that makes terrific fighters. He also split from his trainer who knew the best way to wrap those delicate hands. Alan Minter commented that at his best the worst thing you could do to John was hurt him, because he'd come at you like a tiger. Loved him.

John Coneth defended his world light-heavyweight title so many times since forty-three years ago when he won it against Lonnie Bennett.Coneth unfortunately lost to Matthew Saad Muhammad in their second fight to get his title back.John Coneth of Liverpool, a tough boxer, who won the world light-heavyweight title, forty-three years ago.

We can go on comparing fighters from different eras with our favourites, there's no way of finding out for sure who was the best. For British fighters I can name Johnny Prichett from back in the late 60s & early 70s, Johnny was a compact fighter capable of looking after himself against imports from America. He got all the moves and employed them all naturally. Another compact fighter was Howard Winstone, the Welsh Wizard, - boy, this guy was a smooth operator - and both were local Champions.

That must have been a really emotional moment for John while being in the ring with is all time idol if you look at conteh and style he has it is so much like the late Muhammad Ali must have watched reels of film of him but good boxer the thing his working hard to get there the hardest is staying there but not bad for a lad from the townie I wonder if he’s brother still got Hannah’s bar he’s a gent an all

Fantasy Fight John Conteh Vs Joe Calzaghe @ Light-Heavyweight. I think John would just about swing it. And I am saying this as a Calzaghe fan. I would also suggest. Ken Buchanan Vs Ricky Hatton.

This is the norm, it is only a few boxers who can really stick it out. Even Ali had trouble with staying dedicated over the long run. He wrote that prior to his 67 layoff he trained so hard because he had to be the greatest. After 71 he said he would just put in his 4 hours and he was outta there and it became like a chore rather than fun. People get bored of monotomy easily, no more so than boxing.
