We never really saw the best of Conteh. What a shame. Real class and didn't mind mixing it up either.

Yes, great natural talent.

I saw John Conteh loping like a Panther, down Inverness Street in Camden in the 1980's. Then again a couple of decades later loading his groceries into the boot of his car, in the car park at Sainsbury's Finchley Rd. For real.

Chris Finnegan was a very clean fighter. If he had an American trainer he would have been a world champion

Its a shame he didn't fight for two years over a contract dispute.

Conteh was a great boxer. His problem was he came to his peak around the same time as Matthew Saad Muhammad. In those days fighters were not as protected. In this era Conteh would reign for a long time without bumping into MSM

I'm not sure Franku I'm only quoting what Finnigan said in his book, I read it way back in the 1970s, it was a great story.

The commentator has a major crush on Conteh. Bless.

I read Chris Finnegan's book years ago, I wished I'd kept it. he said that John Conteh nutted him in both fights, his nickname for him was pickle head. both were great fighters but Conteh was on the way up.

Just finished finnegans book and am half way through Contehs. Finnegan certainly feels hard done by with a few butt's in both fights but Conteh shrugs it of as part of the fight game...
