To all lovers of classical music! This video is not about the best interpretation of J. S. Bach or about classical music! It is about the technical background of how notes or compositions were stored on a cassette at that time and can be loaded into the Roland MC-202. The sound settings of the synthesizers and the notes of Bach are examples from the Roland company!
Glad to hear that Bach's old 606-patterns comes into use after all these years 😎

I am willfully going to believe from here on out that Bach owned Roland gear
This is probably also a lot closer to what Roland had in mind when designing these instruments, as opposed to blowing up the world with whole new genres of dance music in the 80s.

Nice! Switched on Bach part 2! 606 is a great addition! :)
As a huge Bach and 202 fan this pushes all the right buttons.
Had each of these units back in the day.. and recorded a lot of Bach and other classical works with them... all hooked up to an M-144 Portastudio.. 1 track for tape sync, and 3 tracks of 2-voices... Had dreams of being a simplified Isao Tomita... Didn't know myself when I bought my JX-3P and DX7... and ran them from an MSQ-100... all synced via the M-144... ... but as MIDI went berserk, so I retired the MC-202 and SH-101, etc... Still use my (heavily modified) DX7 as my controller keyboard though...

Now this has me wondering - would there be a way to create custom data cassettes? Rather than manually programming the 202. I suppose it's probably easier to send convert MIDI information to cv/gate and then to the 202, though...

Yes, CV/Gate is the best way to control the MC-202. So far I only know the data cassettes with the demo tracks from Roland.

there is a program which can convert midi data into these data audio files that the 202 can understand and vice versa but i it's quite expensive as i recall.
@MystiQ078

using cv/gate routes it through the internal cpu which sadly causes delay better use din sync in and program it with a pattern through cv/gate and then use din syn and it will be perfect in time with the rest of the synths.

I ALWAYS thought, that on the MC-505, the patch sounds are something like four layers of PCM data, which should be relatively easy to create on computer software. So I always wanted to try to create some PCM files from my own short samples, phrases that I’ve recorded, and then load them over the MIDI cable… I haven’t ever seen any user friendly way to enable the PCM upload into the MC-505. I need to change out the busted LCD screen and probably swap it’s battery for a new one as well, as I have not done this in over twenty years of owning the 505. Is there a way to swap out the batteries on synths without loosing everything when you do it? I guess I’ll back up everything first just to be safe, and I don’t think I feel comfortable swapping the battery out while it’s turned on, so probably it’ll need to be over a bulk dump and restore. THANKS FOR SHARING!!

¿me pregunto si esta música tiene Copyright, o se puede usar en videos?
@DuckTronic
2 жыл бұрын
Copyright always has an expiry date. In most countries, a piece of music, like any other copyrighted work, becomes non-possessory and available for use by anyone, including commercially, 70 years after the death of the composer/lyricist. From that moment on, the work automatically belongs to the "public domain". However, this removal of protection varies from country to country, and the clarifications and legal interpretations are correspondingly incredibly complex. If there are copyright problems, KZread will tell me on its own or even block the video.
A bit better at 75% speed but this is better patch than 90% of the synth covers out there. They always use reverb and shit, doesn’t sound good. This is way better nice work.

The MC-202 does not understand MIDI. The audio cassette contains digital data (1&0) in a special data format that the MC-202 understands. At that time, this method was often used to save presets of synthesizers or to load them into a device. 👍
