Working in mental health it was surprising how many people didn't realize that what they feel is often normal part of the human condition. Depression, stress, and anxiety. In moderation they aren't bad or destructive and don't always need medicated. Like pain, there's a purpose, they tell you there's something wrong and sometimes the best treatment is some introspection to identify where "pain" is coming from and addressing it. That being said, if you need help always seek help.

Lo I hate getting in late,I need to listen over. Just released from psy unit this pass We'd. After a week honest feeling somewhat worse than better. I will save and listen to over and over.

I'm currently reading Green Lights and I find his perspective on life refreshing. I appreciate that Matthew allowed Joe to ask questions from every field. So many writers just want to promote their book and don't want to answer anything outside of that. Matthew opened up about many topics which allows us to learn more about him. I really appreciate that Matthew. In regard to religion vs science, I have to say that they can be believed in simultaneously. The reason for this is that science is no a religion, it's a tool to learn about the physical world.

I feel you bruv! Since lockdown, losing my job, getting the same pay amount from unemployment, no wife or kids and now no job, I've been drinking WAAAAY too much. Smoking too much and accomplishing NOTHING. Listening to Matt n Joe talking about real struggles, as successful men, makes them so much more relatable, ergo making the things that work for them into credible strategies to face the day for the "everyman" like ourselves.

That’s awesome brother! I don’t say this to bring a rain cloud, but just the other half of the glass. You will feel a high from this that’ll keep you going for a couple days maybe even a few weeks, but it will wear off, and that’s when the work kicks in. When that times comes you have to continue to persevere and grit your teeth and not give up the fight. Scratch kick claw and fight until you are where you wanna be brother. You’ll get there. It’s a long road but just one foot in front of the other and keep clockin mileage brother✊🏼

i dropped drinking this year! and its been my the happiest year of my life, still smoking a bit of weed :) sleep 10 hours a day. I feel I'll become more accountable to myself, especially for every wasted day, and have a record of my prouder moments. Having a journal, I think, encourages you to make your own story one worth reading. And that takes all of that hard work you mentioned, and then some more to accomplish.

Terrific interview with Matthew, what down to earth, honest, say it how it is guy, who truly has humanity and truth of consciousness at his core. Many lessons for every human being and all of humanity in this interview. Loved it, thankyou.

What he said about his dad and having to step up when faced with the realization his dad wasn’t there to catch him anymore… that was profound and deeply personal to my life and loss of my parents.

This is what an interview sounds like when people listen to each other instead of just waiting to talk. One of Joe's best interviews.

Just so y'all know where I'm coming from and how this podcast helped me, I have had a difficult year. I fell down a flight of stairs, hit a cement pole in a dune buggy got 40 stitches in my head. Lost my husband of 27 years, and my dog my girl died. I'm still grateful and wish to enjoy life. I watch and listen to podcast. I changed my way of thinking. I work put meditate. I'm reading his book. Some of it is actually quite difficult to understand because when he writes, some of his thoughts are so complex it's almost as if he has his own personal language. I'm going to listen to the audio-book version next because he seems to express his thoughts out loud in an easier way to understand than some of his writing, plus he has a beautiful voice.

I’ve recently started doing this. It’s a breath of fresh air when most do dissect failure.

Dad passing over knocked me out. My protector, friend, council, joy and my no 1 was gone. He's still teaching me, but my god living without him in the flesh is one of the most difficult lessons I'll ever learn. First time in my life I have no option but to stand on my own to feet - for real this time. God I miss that wonderful man

@Melted Synapse Its because i wanna skib to the fun part as fast as possible while still learning a lot. i might make some mistakes down the road myself, but if i can learn from others then i can skib the hard part because its so time consuming and then move on to the next. Wanna learn math quickly?. Then learn from someone that has the skills, take notes etc. If done correctly, then math becomes easier and easier every time you learn a new calculation method og understand one of maths many rules. The best tip ive got in order to learn math, is to see math as a game and in order to play, you gotta know the rules and some tactics etc. I can only speak for myself because i know how to teach myself almost anything by always starting with understanding the fundament and then build up from there. I rushed this comment because i gotta go to the store before they close lol.

Mcconaughey really has wisdom. Every time I listen to him there's a new, profound life takeaway I can apply that prob would've taken me years or decades to figure out myself. Thank u man

He's a man of faith. McConaughey outlined the principle-based blueprint that leads to success. Studies show that people who are spiritual/ religious are happier, healthier & live longer lives. Prayer & meditation improve outcomes in all areas of medicine. Whether you call that God, the Spirit, the placebo effect, the power of positive thinking, etc., it works. Faith is a choice. Spirituality is a practice, like fitness, that improves one's life. Unlike fitness, it can also improve the lives of one's family & community.

@@scarlet8078 I'm not even a believer but can easily see how religion can help people in those ways. Structure and the belief in it are really helpful, when you boil it down to its most basic functions. You always hear "give someone something they can believe in" as something that can be empowering, well there it is, religion. The main thing I've ever had a dislike about it, is large organized religion. People have eyes and minds, they can decide their path. They don't need a central authority telling them what to believe. With the way I think, the more human involvement and sway people have over the direction of religion, the less I can believe in it. I've always heard that Gods words are written in stone, yet from what I've seen, mans desire and level of piety ebbs with the flow of time. "times are changing" sorry thats not supposed to be possible here, unless you're saying everything you've said up until this point was you misinterpreting Gods intentions...

No no, this can't end. Mcconaughey is so real. This is the best podcast so far I've listened too. He still has all his marbles and then some. Not like alot of actors I grew up watching on the big and small screen in the 80s and onward who today sound literally bonkers. I remember watching contact in 1997 and it is still the scariest outer space movie for me so far. Jodie foster nailed it too. The whole cast. Man this was a good podcast. I love what he says about values. As a homeschool mom, I work harder to instill character/values than I do teaching mathematics or grammar. It’s a major factor in the “whole” education that gets overlooked these days but it’s a paramount problem in our society.

This was a great interview, with a lot of great information and thought process on Matthews part. It is the beginning of WeThePeople. His philosophy is easy to understand, I believe it will come to fruition but it will take probably nine more years. Thank you for this,Joe, and love your show.

I own it on DVD and watch it twice a year religiously... Love his character...

For those here who haven't already: watch True Detective season 1. It's possibly Mathew McConaughey's best performance (which is saying a lot), in a fantastically written and directed show. There's something really transcendent there .

Yeah, its great but also incredibly depressing - I wouldn't call it transcendent, its more like an dark, evil abyss and you are staring in it for several hours. Remember Nietzsche?

Yes my favourite season of anything show ever. I am currently exposing all of my housemates to it and they are loving it,. Just finished ep4 where the bikers take Rust on the job!! Pulsating stuff!

Always loved Mathews introspective reflection. He belts it out with such common sense associations so it’s comprehendible for those that may not be on the same brain wave. It’s very cool. It’s a great fit with Joe. Joe has fabulous introspection depth with great clarity. Interesting conversations from both. 👍🏻😎👍🏻

Hey, Matthew McConaughey do you like toast? Matthew McConaughey: I do like toast, although it's not always necessarily just the toast that I like. I do like toast per se, but certain aspects of toast I find off-putting. But taken in whole, the toast, with the good and bad creates a unique experience that might not be as interesting had it only been the seemingly "best" parts of the toast in and of itself.

Really enjoyed this. Mathew is real fascinating human being. I’d really like to meet him some day. I’m a adopted Texan. Been here for over half of my life and I love everything about it . Great show Brother. Keep up the Great work.

The metaphor for responsibilities being stacked on top of us weighing us down vs layed out in front of you like a track was a damn good way of defining how he handles stress

yeah its like Joe that underated buy common personality type atleast am i am but many are that you dont see on traditional tv having the time to draw any value from but then you notice well rounded but like Mat can be at the top and their not gonna have a chance to really be herd without the modern platforms but its alarming like the thrill seeking luck style success is thrilling so its seen first and it what we feel is best example when it might be simply just that thrilling and maybe the last think to follow adding to the rarity of ambitious succsess

Matt such bright personality and laid back that it pours out my screen! love that guy!

Joe telling Matthew to shut his notification sounds off was great. I love how he treats everyone the same, no matter who they are. Joe’s a badass.

If you're trying to have a conversation it's just rude. It's harder to quiet that stuff on a computer. Maybe Mathew was on his phone or Ipad or something but he came off pretty down to earth while still seeming like a positive guy.

ONE YEAR LATER and I FINALLY got to watch this episode!! And what a treat it was! The issues are as true now as a year ago. The discussions are everything that i wondered about and try to figure out how to do things about self checking, peaceful and neighborly communities, the tent cities that are ruining the most beautiful places are out of hand and so many other things! Oh, this was a book promotion interview? oops! Ok, going to buy the book! Thank you!

I loved that guy so much in True Detective. His acting was just perfect, as everything else he did.

@@RKDTOO You're not actually missing a meal. Fasting was never intended to be just starving yourself. You're replacing Physical food with Spiritual by Reading God's Word and prayer. It's a way of Feeding your Spirit Man and denying your Flesh Man. Basically look at it as you have 2 separate bodies living in one Vessel. Spirit and Flesh. You're body weakens, but your Spirit strengthens. That's about the best way I can explain it. Also I've noticed, a lot of times my Spirit will be full and it makes my body feel full. Even though I haven't eaten physical food.
