    Well in Joe's defense, Matthew is just one guys opinion on the matter. Others may think differently. Not to mention that Matthew and Joe's idea of what consists of torture may vary. Matthew did also admit that his body was actually in quite a bit of pain due to not having any "insulation", and his knees would hurt after running only 15 feet.

    @HWG 10IAR OK, a couple of things, first off I wrestled in High School and so I know full well all about weight cutting. I witnessed weight cutting ranging from light to significant. Such as when the coach would roll the mat up after practice, and those who still needed to cut a decent amount of weight would get fully dressed in sweats, hoodies and towels over our heads, and then rolling the mat back on top of us To go thru what can only be described as an extreme sauna experience, sweating off over 5 pounds or more in a matter of hours, just to make weight. I personally went thru that several times. Now granted, this was only water weight. Regardless, what you see Matthew go thru in the Dallas Buyers Club, where he lost 47 pounds or say Christian Bale losing 30 pounds when he was in the movie "The Fighter", this is drastically different than weight cutting in sports, which generally speaking usually consists of losing only a few pounds right before weigh-ins. It can get much more extreme, but that is not the norm. I'm also not going to say what either goes thru should be described as "torture". Whether it is or not, depends greatly on the individual. Some can handle extreme weight changes easier than others.

    @@ABCowl absolutely, especially that entire sequence. The entire film is obviously excellent, but the ~25 minute section of the film starting with when they land on the planet that Matt Damon is on, all the way until Cooper docks with the Endurance, is one of the finest sequences in film history, it could almost be its own stand alone story.. They essentially wake Mann from the grave, he gives them a bunch of promising data about his planet, then he leads Cooper away from the base and attacks him, and reveals everything he has said was false. Then Brand and the robots rescue Cooper and they begin pursuing Mann, warning him to not attempt docking with the Endurance. He doesn't listen, "there is a moment..", and then all seems lost as they see their ship spinning into the atmosphere of the planet they just left, essentially guaranteeing it's destruction and that their mission will fail and that they'll be trapped, and then Cooper saves it. Its so intense and naturally dramatic, as well as being realistic and believable. Instead of relying on a generic mustache twirling villain for an antagonist, Mann is just a human whose actions are understandable if not justified. Flawless writing and story telling 👏

    McConaughey is so charismatic. His personality is so overwhelming that this interview feels like a movie. The high res camera and editing definitely factor into what makes this interview feel like a performance, but it definitely feels like a performance more than a podcast. This f***ing man is responsible for the best role in a series EVER , namely his role as " Rust " in True Detective . To be the exec producer and play that role this dude must be extremely intelligent !! Respect !

  • @delhidelirium9091

    @delhidelirium9091

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Conrad Rich Same ! There´s TV series and then there´s " True Detective " . Period . Series so great that I kept watching it till I wasted all the probabilities of Rust having been the high profile paedo´s gatekeeper implanted in the Force to mislead by leading the investigation .. Haha, believe it or not ,my paranoid type of outlook ( blame the " flower power" years ) kept on telling me that those two black officers were actually on to something by investigating Rust´s role on how it all had played out 1st time around . Classic indeed . There´s so much ground there for a follow up , they would probably had to get more explicit in order to top Season 1 up , perhaps too explicit for it to qualify as some family friendly TV entertainment .

  • @delhidelirium9091

    @delhidelirium9091

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Conrad Rich Absolutely .how easy it would be to have a " fixer " such as Rust lacking years of transparent activity , even to Internal affairs/Feds ... after all , the series implies , and I do also believe that these issues fly well above their radars ( cases in real life which I will not mention for obvious reasons ) . It´s extremely intelligent the way the series inflates the whole " psycho satanic child molester " to a degree that the spectator this kind of false sense of " closure " ( pretty much like in real life when they get some bottom feeding scapegoat or even a " Monster" who has already died and all the evils of the world fall upon him ) . Fact being , they hardly scratched the surface , if at all . Series 3 brilliant showcases the above ... and they do refer to some other case , besides Season 1 , which I think is not related to season 2 ( perhaps the next season , huh ? Eheh! ) . As for Season 2 - pretty much like you I seem to be the only person who finds it just as creative and enthralling as Season 1 . I do not enjoy Colin Farrell as an actor , but man , " Velcoro" is the exact type of character for him to play ...again it´s just genius ... one episode , just the 1st episode and once you get things like that character build up to the moment they all bump into one another "randomly" at the end - that look they give one another as if they are all looking at themselves through some sort of mirror - broken characters sharing a perfect synchronicity moment there . That scene at the bar where they play with synchronicity too , Velcoro´s and Frank´s conversation , the place they are in ... all seems so complete when that almost ghostly apparition of a resident musician begins strumming some dirgy chords with words like " ... this is my least favourite life ." - just the type of perfection a guy like Lynch or Tarkovsky etc would think of . haha, sorry about the novel , pretty much like you I´m also one of the few people I know who finds these series so special . People around me favour things like " The Office " or " Hannibal " so ... yeah , glad to meet someone who seems every bit as " obsessed" by TD as I am . Definitely the 1st person I talk to which doesn´t instantly disparages Season 2 . Good stuff .

    I went from 260lbs to 180lbs in 6 months with almost no exercise. 40lbs was lost in the first 2 months. All due to massive calorie restriction. No diet- just no food really. I ate some but not much. And I’ve kept the weight off for 6 years. I can also attest to the mental sharpness. I was finishing my degree during this time, working full time as a firefighter, and father to a new baby, 4th child total. Kept a 4.0 that year and finished with 3.98 overall. It’s bizarre bc it goes against everything we’ve been told. But it’s true.

    @@adrianpena460 My decision to do this was based on health reasons and my job as a firefighter. It sounds weird but for some reason, I had it in my head that every pound I lost was a pound less I carried on the fireground. We wear 50 pounds of gear and carry another 50, minimum, anytime there is a house fire. So I figured if I lost 40-50lbs, it would essentially be like I was operating at a house fire without the weight of my gear. Sounds weird probably but it stuck with me. On top of that, I was in my mid 20s and had been experiencing acid reflux and the beginning signs of IBS. I did not want to take medication all my life so I began by trying to go Paleo. Problem is I can not stand almost all vegetables. After a few weeks of Paleo I realized it wasn’t going to work. So I changed my approach. I spend 1/3 of my life at the firehouse. Very hard to resist eating at a firehouse. So I figured if I eat on the days I work, and don’t eat much the days I’m off, I’m reducing my caloric intake by roughly 2/3. So that’s what I did. I didn’t go crazy eating at work either. If my firehouse was cooking, I’d eat. If we didn’t cook, I didn’t eat. I didn’t bring food from home like most guys do. And I didn’t always eat absolutely nothing on my days off, although occasionally I did. Usually, I would feel if my blood sugar was getting low because I’d get headaches and become irritable. So if that happened, I’d eat something quick like a granola bar, some starburst, or a banana and peanut butter. But when I get in a routine of doing this, it really wasn’t that hard. Looking back, I think there were several factors that led to my success. My wife for one, not expecting me to eat dinner all the time and complimenting the way I looked. Seeing results on the scale quickly and feeling your clothes fit loose was also a big boost. I quit drinking alcohol, for the most part. Occasionally have a beer or two but nothing like I had in my early 20s. And probably the biggest thing was staying busy. We had recently purchased our first home, so I began doing all kinds of projects around the house which I enjoyed. I’ve been an artist my whole life and, at the time, hadn’t even picked up a sketchbook in years. So I began drawing again. I got into woodworking which I fell in love with. Eventually, we found out my wife was pregnant with our 4th child so that took a great deal of time. And I was finishing my degree. One downside was I felt my strength go down. I had lost 60lbs but felt weak. I remember pulling a ceiling at a house fire one night and my shoulders were torched. Well, my second to last semester, I needed an elective. One class they offered was personal training. I played sports all my life, always liked lifting weights and working out, but like I said, up until this point, I really hadn’t done anything by way of exercise. So I took this class and started lifting and working out. I got back into a pretty regimented training program. I ended up becoming certified as a personal trainer through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and ended up working in a gym on my days off, to finally training clients on my own. But again, I lost the weight before ever starting any regimented fitness program. This is my experience only, and for anyone else it may be different. Whatever you do, talk to your doctor first, seriously. Especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions. But I’m a firm believer that we have massively over complicated weight loss in this country, mainly because of the profits involved in the industry. My experience was, I really didn’t need very many calories to operate effectively every day. In fact, I needed far, far less than we’re often told (usually 2000-3000 depending on the person). I did not consume anywhere near 2000 calories, unless it was a day we had biscuits and gravy at the firehouse. Hopefully this gives you or anyone else a little deeper insight into my experience and I’m happy answer any other questions you have. Take care.

They are doing what they know best to make their living situation less stressful, and the system and society they have been assigned to has forced the hand of the reality they are forced to exist in, and simultaneously they call it “crime”. The reason why Matt Damons weight loss for Courage Under Fire is hardly ever mentioned in celeb conversations like this is cause 1) that role for him was a very small part in a movie, albeit critically acclaimed, box office wise did not do well at the time and therefore isnt that well known of a film. 2)Matt Damon himself has admitted that he is a cautionary tale for actors to be very careful and medically meticulous on how to go about either gaining or losing weight for a transformative role like that, because in his case he actually did it all wrong and ended up seriously ruining his health for life. Although he is healthy now he has said that medically it left him with permanant damage to his body.

    I had rewatched Reign of Fire as one of my favorites of all time 2 days ago before watching this clip. This actor does not cheat or go lightly on his roles. He lives, breathes and eats, or lack thereof, his characters. He also teaches his children to have goals. I support Matthew McConaughey and love his personality. Joe, you are the man too!!!
