Joe Frazier on Howard (2009)

Спорт

Joe and Marvis join Howard Stern to promote HBO'S Thrilla in Manilla documentary. Howard turns the subject to Joe's lack of respect from Boxing while Ali is worshipped. Then changes subject to Joe's sexual prowess while Marvis tries unsuccessfully changing the subject. Very funny

Well clearly not, he talked about Ali for so long after their careers. Ali only talked about Fraizer to promote the fight, in which Fraizer earned millions. He said after the Thrila in Manila that he was the greatest fighter ever next to me. Ali even apologized to Fraizer which he didn’t need to do, Ali talking like that made Fraizer rich.

People do not readily know that while Ali was struggling after his license was striped he was unsuccessful running a burger joint and on Broadway The Champ (Frazier) dropped by to hand Ali cash to help him and his family along. The Champ also fought tirelessly and was instrumental in Ali getting his license back. Ali swore if The Champ beat him he would crawl across the ring and declare that The Champ (Frazier) was the greatest fighter ever. Not only did he brake his word, he attacked and attempted to humiliate Frazier. Joe Frazier is thE REAL

Sonny Liston & Frazier had it 10 times worse than Ali, when they grew up, and Ali basically gave MLK Jr. the middle finger when he asked Clay/Ali to join him in his Civil-Rights-Movement Protests. It was always about Ali and ironically the people and the religion that he sacrificed everything for, were essentially thugs & terrorists that preached death to the "Whites," and anyone that wouldn't convert to their radical religion which disrespected women. Elijah Muhammad created the Nation of Islam when he was locked up in prison & he fleeced Ali out of his earnings, almost as bad as his ex-wifes.

It's not because he was in an era full of great talents. When you think Ali, you think Frazier, when you think Foreman, you think Ali. @@sleazyfellow yeah Ali was the Better boxer when you have to pick one of those 3 to compete against each of the other 2 (Although I wish Foreman wouldn’t have taken that break cuz I believe he would have beaten Ali in a Rematch & he would have been labeled as the hands down best of the Era & You can Argue that Foreman was because he was able to become heavyweight champion as an old man[in boxing],..Ali wasn’t able to be a success like Foreman was later in his career (out of his prime) ......but when it come to Ali & Frazier I do think heads up, Smoking Joe Frazier is the slightly better than Ali..... but since Joe’s style & skill wasn’t conducive to fighting Foreman & he got completely beaten down so that’s why I say you wouldn’t pick him for a Tournament type with the 3 of those guys..... .. & it drives me absolutely Crazy when people say that a prime Ali would win vs a prime Tyson, [even Ali says Tyson would have destroyed him], Tyson was basically a quicker, Faster, Stronger, & more technical & Better defensive version of Joe Frazier, Ali couldn’t really handle Frazier & it took every ounce of his being to keep up & be awarded 2 razor close victories, Now imagine a way better version of Joe Frazier in every category (except for Maybe Heart), Everyone Says how fast Ali was But Tyson was faster than Ali & The Prime Tyson peek-a-Boo style would give Ali Such problems...... If you want to pick any of the past ALL-TIME Greats (at Heavyweight) who has the ability to be great in any Era, I would say it’s Foreman because he has such an incredible power in general & he has the height & potential to compete with anyone, All Tyson is a complete package too but against All Time great heavyweights (who have tremendous skill) his height disadvantage is an issue like vs Lewis, but I would have loved to see what Levels Tyson could have reached if he stayed completely dedicated & didn’t abuse his body, I Already think on his best day he beats all other Heavyweights on their best day....... the Guy who really has a chance to be the GOAT is Tyson Fury Cuz he has the size, skill, ability, & Heart of a Ali/Frazier, Vitaly Klitschko also was underrated but it’s hard to see where he stands among the Alltime greats Cuz he was awesome as well but the he didn’t necessarily have other greats to test him, Lewis wouldn’t Rematch him as Lewis knew Vitaly was better than him & Beating The Breaks off of Lewis & Lewis caught a lucky break when a cut forced a stoppage in a fight he was emphatically losing LOL I know I rambled 😂

You make multiple questionable statements, too many to pick apart here but I will challenge one of them. You state (falsely) that the second fight vs Joe Frazier was “razor close”. This is not true. At the end of 12 rounds the judges scorecards read as follows: 7-4-1, 7-5 and 6-5-1. While the fight was close, it was certainly NOT “razor” close. Sports Illustrated magazine wrote that Ali “easily” won the fight. You say other things that are not backed up by facts but it would take too much time to take them all on here. Be careful. Words matter. Stay safe and enjoy the upcoming holiday season.

Joe was a simple man and I mean that in a good way. I have learned to love Joe Frazier, a good man, person and human being. What Ali said about Joe over a period of 4 years was well beyond selling the 3 fights they had, Ali didn’t care how it effected Joe or his family, in fact - he wanted the reactions the derogatory comments brought. To me now looking back, it showed the fear Ali had of losing to Joe that he would say or do anything that may give him an edge in those fights. Whereas, Joe let his fists do his talking in the ring. I say this as a person who looked at Ali as a hero as I was growing up but, on reflection, I can now see the true hero in Joe Frazier. The person who over come physical disabilities, with a damaged left arm and nearly blind in one eye and yet went on to become “heavy weight champion “ of the world. Ali was special in lots of ways to lots of people, including me but, as a fighter and a selfless person - Joe stands head and shoulders above Ali to me. RIP Ali - Joe

Frazier, Ali, Foreman are all icons in the sport. Frazier took incredible amounts of punishment and still persevered. One of the toughest boxers of all time, it took 2 other ATGs to beat him. As a fighter? Sure he was way more actioned packed in fights and sold tickets. As a boxer? Sorry but Ali was superior to everybody he got in the ring with, even when he lost. Not only that he took it to the next level with showmanship....taking a page out of pro wrestling with his interviews/stunts. He also proved he was one of the toughest of all time. Nobody should of stayed up against Joe in fight of the century. That was prime Joe right there and he hurt Ali so many times during the fight and his stamina was unreal. That's also what makes Ali so great, the layoff, 3 years of inactivity, comes back, still faster than the heavyweights overall and still got the title back eventually. Only done before once by Patterson.

I don’t think any boxer/Fighter/MMA/Combat/Athlete(or any Competitive thing) , they shouldn’t be punished or judged for using the mental warfare but the point that they do have with Ali is the things they brought up that he did outside of the ring such as being an Ally with the Klan & his philanthropy in general, normal it shouldn’t matter as A lot of greats are crazy in general but Ali is looked at as this Legendary icon who stood up for injustice & is seen & heralded in the same way MLK is, when in reality Ali was actually detrimental in trying to have equality & love amoung all people here in the USA, which tends to happen a lot & a lot of times the people who actually do try to help are often labeled as a racist, but that’s all part of the propaganda machine

While it certainly worked on Foreman, it totally backfired on Frazier. Ali taunts and mean spirited jibes generated such hatred, bitterness and betrayal in Frazier that spurred him on to efforts that he probably would not have been able to give, had he not had the emotional fire that was lit by Muhammad Ali in the most unfair way by misrepresenting him to the American public. During their fights, Joe went at him with such determination and fury, that no doubt did lasting damage, and more so than would have been otherwise had the buildup to the fight been less personal. Frazier was willing to die and go to the very limit of his endurance to punish Ali as much as he possibly could.

he probably did say _ stop the fight - as many fighters have this passing thought... but look at what he actually - If you look at the footage Ali is slumped on his side in the corner waiting for the 15 round to start ...he was not fighting to stop the fight . In the 1st Liston fight he actually got up to leave the ring ( when he was blinded ) at one stage but was pushed back by Angelo ... and ended up wining the fight ... So just cause he said stop the fight - lets not put so much emphasis on that. Plus Frazier was loosing big time anyway

You should watch the Muhammad Ali Documentary that was just released by Ken Burns! It was so much more complicated than a quick explanation! Howard is telling a lot of truth but there’s things he doesn’t know! Even Ali late in life knew that the two of the big mistakes he made in life, was the way he treated Joe and the way he kicked Malcolm X to the curb! He did a lot of those mean things because he was scared and that was his way of trying to convince himself but even after all the horrible things he said he would turn around and be one of the greatest guys in the world! So giving of his time and money. There was times while watching I loved him and then hated him but at the end after seeing his whole life, you realize he was once in a lifetime kind of guy and will be missed FOREVER. Ali was the greatest! But having said that Joe is also one of the BEST boxers too, he was a real class act!

Howard was right about what he said about Ali, however that was young Ali. I hated Ali back then , then I ended up liking him later. To quote Ali " if you think the same at 20 as you do as 50 you just wasted 30 years". When I got older as well I've never seen an athlete give up his prime years for his beliefs. The government ruined Joe Louis when he was in the military doing boxing exhibitions all the money he donated to the war effort they decided he had to oay taxes on all the money he raised for the government. Then with Ali after he was originally 4f'd for the draft another typical Democrat lead administration screwed Ali and stripped him of his title.
