    Just incredible how acting careers start. I'm a golfer and I had to chuckle about the caddy strike. His memory is incredible and such a spiritual person. Good job Chris and a big thumbs up.

    Hey Chris . This may have been my favorite interview you've done so far . The California Kid really brought me back to better times . Joe was so just so honest and humble about his career decisions and I loved hearing his stories . I could feel his pain talking about Dana Plato and so many others that rose to fame too quickly and lost their lives , so sad . Just such an interesting interview Chris , loved it ! Once again , thank you for all your hard work and sharing . Stay safe and well brother ! 👍👍

    Crazy that he has 300+ movie credits- especially having a stage career too! Funny to hear him talk about being a caddy and striking. Found that funny. Also I think it was good that his family was a working family- kids learn a lot like that. It was also good to hear him talk about his battle with alcohol and his ability to stay sober for so long. I agreed with both of your takes that we need to be better at deciding for ourselves what we like- think for ourselves. Sounds like the Hollywood lifestyle can be so hard. It was good to see how he has kept his faith and working to help others. Another marvelous interview- listing while I am working on my cars.

    He and his family have had such a huge influence on Hollywood. It is really cool to hear about his experiences, especially when he was younger and all he went through before he became a star. I have huge respect for actors who have worked hard in both on-stage and off-stage productions. It's really sad to hear about the problems he had with that Vietnamese word. Speaking another language correctly is just so hard sometimes. Korean doesn't have an "L" or "R" but it does have an "L/R" that is a mix of the two but can also sound like a Spanish "R" depending on placement. That really sucks, but I'm happy he's led a great life since then! You do such a great job at asking engaging questions that add true value to the interview. Asking great questions is a great skill to have, and I think it's often overlooked by many. Thank you for making this a fun listen, Chris!!

Joe touched on so many different topics! I remember watching Apocalypse Now in high school when we were studying the Vietnam War - such a great movie! I also didn't know that Joe did a lot of voice acting for his brother - I think Tom Hank's brother does that too...seems like a pretty cool gig and a nice break from the limelight!

    That's interesting how he did his brother's voice because they, "Couldn't afford him." Chris, do you think substance is prominent in the acting and music world? It seems as though many of the people you have interviewed on your show had struggled with it. I totally remember that incident with Nancy Kerrigan. That was back in the 90's when I used to figure skate myself and we were both from Minnesota! I liked Estevez's discussion about vulnerability in people when they lose people in their lives who gave them direction.

  • @ChrisContra

    @ChrisContra

    Yeah, that was one of the biggest scandals in figure skating history, and you being a part of the figure skating world at that time, it must've been especially shocking. To answer your question, I think if there is a lack of structure in a persons life, substance abuse issues have a much better chance to creep in. Often times, entertainers are lacking structure, because work is kind of sporadic and they certainly have the means to feed some dangerous habits. Ultimately, it can happen to anybody leading that kind of lifestyle. Anyway, that's kind of my feelings on it. Thanks for listening and bringing a great discussion to the comments, Red!
