As a member of all three 6-week charity lineups for all three prequels, I can honestly say those were some of the most fun times. Met great friends, and raised money for a great cause. Good times.

I was in that line. Got my ticket from the LiningUp.net folks. My family was on vacation from Washington State. They went to Universal Studios and dropped 17 year old me off with strangers. Wish there was more footage of this night!

I don't remember anyone being disappointed at the time.

Partying like it was '99...oh wait, it was '99 loool. I was only 5 when this movie came out, remember seeing Darth Maul's face literally EVERYWHERE! ON the back of cereal boxes, all over movie theatres, in HMV, literally EVERYWHERE! Also seeing Kid Anakin in the pod too, and also got a Darth Maul figurine out of a cereal box! Then Star Wars died down after that. Used to think nothing would've been as highly anticipated...'til The Avengers came out.

@arsen, the avengers sold some serious tickets, but no one anticipated that at the level they anticipated episode 1. this movie was historic. and i think thats why it gets ragged on the most. i enjoy the shit out of it. some people expected to see the greatest movie of all time and they didnt so they still bitch about it to this day

I remember people liked the prequels when they first came out, but now people are suddenly hating on them???

The Phantom Menace was a great movie. I truly touches the imagination

And as for Jar Jar Binks, well, he can go fuck himself. Other then that the movie was awesome. The next time you diss The Phantom Menace, just remember that somewhere, there is an 8 year old who really enjoys this movie, and your disrespecting him/her by talking trash about the movie. I'm 19 years old and I still love the prequels. Regardless of how bad they are, show some respect to the ones that enjoy them, and just shut up. Thank you

I read the original Dune books before i watched Star Wars. Star Wars borrowed tons of ideas from Dune. Just compare Leto the 2nd to Jabba the Hutt to see what am saying.

I didn't like the prequels, but I also didn't care much for The Empire Strikes Back & Return of the Jedi...yeah I said it. I love the original Star Wars (no I'm not calling it A New Hope), it's one of my favorite films.

And just think, in a few short hours there will be hundreds of disappointed fans streaming out of the theater...

In the next re release in 2020 lucas should replace that kid with a cgi anakin that can act and replace jar jar with a real black guy and the nemodiana with real asians instead of those puppets .

To bad the movie was garbage.
