    If the vixens should get recognition then the writers, the male dancers, the videographers, the editors, the makeup artists, the editor, the director, the choreographer and everybody involved in the hip hop world deserve recognition too. Video vixens are like the cars in hip hop videos, they were good eye candy, but hip hop would have existed without them.

    I'm with flip. 1) Video models are not inherent to hip-hop. Modeling in general is its own profession, where the work is to model for compensation, whether it's fashion shows, video commercials, movies, product displays, or in this case music videos. 2) They didn't "contribute" to hip-hop. Once hip-hop became a profitable industry, they were employed. There's a difference. In other words, they didn't help build this genre. When this genre became lucrative enough, it became one of the various employers of models, using their talents to create visuals for the music.

    I get it....i do.....but the acknowledgement of Hip Hop like several others have said is the acknowledgement of the ART FORM.....The MUSIC itself....if video vixens would have started at the VERY beginning...maybe a stronger argument could be had but i see why they weren't acknowledged.

  • @coreyharding4837
    @coreyharding48377 ай бұрын

    I get both sides of the arguement, but lets be real... every industry has the ones that work and keep things going behind the scenes and in the scenes but yet others get most of the credit. like actors... main actors always get the credit, but yet there were literally 100's of people who made that actor look good and keeping things running smooth but has NEVER gotten the credit for it. thats just how it is. there is no way to honor everyone, otherwise if everyone is important than really no one is important.... just the way it works. but everyone does deserve some form of credit for their part in something done.... but also, in this particular issue, the video vixens were not even what the hip hop was about, and this might sound bad but honestly they were simply a tool used to sell the persona, really no different than adding the fly cars and jewelry to it. but on a side note Flip had me on the floor the way he started laughing out loud Melyssa was like "and whats so funny?"....😅😅😅😅

    She's clueless and not in touch with reality. But if she feels so strongly about this why not launch something on her own. Instead of waiting for the industry to do it. And in 50 years of Hip Hop how long did video vixens even matter?

Don't let the old heads make you think Fight the Power or Fuck the Police are better rap songs than the love letter to video vixens that is Tip Drill!

    Melyssa Ford is right the standard was different in her time. I remember her image in the magazine and video vixen industry from the very beginning. Melyssa Ford was one of the first that paved the way for the gorgeous, stand up and respectable woman. Melyssa Ford was and still is a symbol of what could be achieved. It was the other woman who f'd the video vixen industry up, long after Melyssa Ford made a name for herself. Melyssa Ford is an ICON. It wasn't just the men who loved her it was also many woman who wanted to be her or be like her. Melyssa Ford inspired many.

    I know people were really into video vixens like their names etc. But growing up and honestly still even know. I didn't know they were reoccurring unless a rapper said their name and I still didn't know faces to names. this is a first time I'm putting her name to her face. I do get the point though of a lot of parts of hiphop not being acknowledged. but the years not over. Niggas can create their shit if they feel it. especially if you got the money

    Melissa is correct. I remember how impactful some of the video models were for a lot of songs and videos. Nelly’s Hot in Here, Mystical Been So Long, DMX What These B**** Want, Jay Z Change Clothes, & Excuse Me Miss… so many more. King Magazine, Source Magazine, Smooth Magazine…all the videos I named I remember because of the models in them.

    To each it's own, but I don't ever remember a rapper getting famous because of the video vixen in their video. Video vixens are no more important than the models on lowrider magazines. Unfortunately they are used to help boost a product. They are not the product themselves. Now if a video vixen were to transition her career as a video girl into selling other products similar to the Kardashians then you could speak to maybe their business impact. But their impact as a whole on hip hop itself would be unchanged regardless of their inclusion or not. Lastly, What impact would you acknowledge them for? How do you quantify that?
