    Her accent is so good you could almost pinpoint it on a map. Though if you listen to her longer interviews in French she'll occasionally make small grammar mistakes that a native speaker wouldn't like messing up the gender of a noun or the conjugation in a very common tense. That's probably due to lack of practice but that's the only thing that gives her away, the accent is, once again, perfect.

Orwell was a prophet when he wrote that "the party" in his novel "nineteen eighty-four" would constantly remove reference to, and rewrite history so that there was no history at all, only a constant "now" in which the party was always right, what they were against was universally wrong, and that no one could possibly refute their claims or if they tried to they would be cast out of polite society and worse.

That's just off the top of my head, there's several on tv I don't know their names, the blonde in Big Bang Theory for instance, though she's a good bit younger than myself, doesn't hurt to think about it though. lol

    Sad but true. There are now three generations who have no idea what manors are. . . . have very little respect for a human life . . . .who haven't learned or don't use proper English grammar . . . . who are not spiritually inclined and don't appreciate edgy humor. And NOW the current youngsters can't even write cursive. I am so glad that I will soon be leaving Earth because the future of this country will be in the hands of idiots. Just my opinion ppl. Her accent is almost perfect (it still slips in a tiny bit at times, noticeable only because I know English is her mother tongue); but what gives her away is that she still makes gender confusions at times, like here when she said "une problème avec mon genou" instead of "un probème..." But i'm still amazed at her accent - so hard for English speakers to get right- even after all these years. She really got it right.

  • @CanthusOfCandE

    @CanthusOfCandE

    @@19Edurne people make mistakes in their native language as well, so small mistakes are fine. An example here is she probably meant she was doing 'well' rather than 'good'. Although it could be argued the good she was doing was giving to charity but that is unlikely to have been what she meant. Normally wouldn't jump on this but thought I would as a point of talking perfectly in any language is rare even for the natives.

  • @maelstrom57

    @@CanthusOfCandE Yeah, even native speakers get the gender of certain words wrong sometimes but definitely not the word _problème_ which is in the top 200 most frequently used words. It was a pretty serious mistake which would give away any non-native, no matter how good their accents. I'm not saying Jodie Foster's French is bad by any means, though, I've watched French interviews of hers and she spoke it flawlessly.

    I don't know if you did it on purpose, if so, kudos, because her french is precisely prefect: almost perfect. (When she said "j'ai un problème avec mon genou", the prononciation of "un" was a little off imo) Anyway, I prefer almost perfect to perfect...

    The way she pronounced the gen part of genou was also a little off, in France, we slur the g and the n and don't really include too much of the e, her pronunciation of the ou part also had a little bit of an American accent, but overall her French is spotless

    @@NotDuncan No, there was nothing intellectually valid about her opinion at all if you give time to research and critically examine how well supported her notion was . Her opinion was rather ridiculous and even a bit hypocritical (considering the project that she have been in). Doesn't mean she deserve hate for voicing stupid statements , though.
