Nonfiction is hard to go back to once one becomes aware of history. There’s a time and a place, but stories like this are the greatest ever told.

Jocko, this is perhaps the most profound podcast. As the son of a 1/7 Cav soldier who didn’t come home from Vietnam, much respect and love to the good Captain and to you Jocko. Matt Montana, son of Jimmy Montana.

There are definitely a bunch of these I keep saying, this is the most profound, heartwrenching, interesting thing I've ever heard. It's such a privilege to have stuff like this we can turn to at a moment's notice instead of the shit pumped out on the daily by people who know nothing, care nothing except the almighty dollar. I did a book report on "I'm No Hero" in 6th grade, it was the first book I ever remember reading that wasn't in the fantasy/sci fi genre. Salute to this man.

Just wanted to say thanks for the consistent motivation. My mental and physical performance has infinitely improved since finding this podcast.

I've listened to this podcast twice. Blown away... because of Jocko I push things hard and he is right.. it's the little decisions. Thank you Jocko! I have done something big in my life since finding you. I look up to you and appreciative I found you. Mr. Plumb, to you im not sure I have enough words to convey what gratitude, humility, perseverance, and just looking at things differently because of your wise words. Thank you for hanging on, your lot in life was in comparison harder than any of us. Gives great perspective. Rob Hanzlik good luck, I support your decision. I just had a friend OD on heroin recently, it sucks to lose someone for something so silly. When it gets tough just think of your loved ones who will miss you when you're gone. take care

Rob Hanzlik Stick with it and on some days you will struggle to get through the next hour sober. If you have to think in minutes " for the next 5 minutes Im going to stay sober" then do it. It has been so long for me I cant remember the exact details but I know in the beginning, I was looking from hour to hour and its not easy but it can be done. It has been 23 years for me.

It gets easier every day. I was on opiates for about 7 years, the last 3 were heroin. I can say once you make it a week, then a month, a year, it just keeps getting easier and better.

Great to hear, Rob. Every day sober is a great day. I pray you do not relapse. IF it does happen, just start over. Don't EVER give up. Pick up Jocko's book "Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual". It is a resource that will inspire you and help you in your sobriety. Rock on, brother. God bless!!!

Charlie that day you came home and landed at Clark AFB. I was only about 5 but ... I was there ... My Father was an Air Force F4 pilot stationed at Clark. I was very young ... this is one of the very few memories I have of that time. I remember you all getting off the air plane ... and there was a big huge inflatable tub ... they dunked you all in it. I remember everyone so happy to see you all. Thank you for your service and your 6 years in horror.

Was privileged to attend a Forrestal lecture at the Naval Academy by Capt Plumb. He came out on stage in black pj’s and paced back & forth for several moments prior to addressing us midshipmen. 3 steps forward, pivot, 3 steps back. That was his world in captivity. Very powerful opening statement.

This gentleman was incredibly inspiring to listen to. Completely mesmerizing because of how calm and comfortable with himself he is. I very rarely sit through several hours of a full podcast, but it was hard to walk away from Capt. Plumb.

Thank you Charlie Plumb. You gave me a lesson in courage, spirit and class.

my dad grew up in small town southern Illinois. He was a paper boy. He's an night shift ER doctor. Paper boys are a rare breed. They are disciplined, they take initiative. It seems like it is the first symptom of success.

How many of you here have a newfound discipline all of a sudden after starting to watch and listen to jocko? . I've been trying to get my shit together for years and now all of a sudden im GETTING AFTER IT!

This should be played in schools we need to be teaching these kids 💯

I think the thing that surprises me the most about Jocko is he's a really good story narrator, even when reading right out of Charlie's book, really helps pull you into the story

BayBeats831 I like the books for intense workouts. Makes me feel motivated and keeps me from being weak. But I like the conversations when I am driving, eating.

Charlie Plumb is a true inspiration. That old saying," a wise man once said", well that wise man is Charlie Plumb.The way he has remained so optimistic when stripped of everything from being a POW for 6 years to coming back home and learning his wife wants a divorce and is engaged to another man, he never let a negative situation break him. He always was making the best of what he had. This is very inspiring. What Jocko starts reading from Charlie's book at about 2:45 on into the podcast are important lessons that can apply to everyone.

Holy. Shit. Makes my commute feel not so bad. Thanks for everything you guys have done for us. Been binge watching these podcasts lately.

Jocko is the best recruiter the military has ever had

This man embodies the notion of "class act" like very few people ever have. What an example he is for all of us. Thank you sir, and thank you Jocko for bringing men like CPT Plumb and their stories to us.

Fascinating, riveting and humbling from beginning to end. Thank you for your service. I was a teen during Viet Nam and I can tell you, I was all about the POW’S. I had a metal bracelet with my POW’S name and date he went missing. In everything I’ve ever owned, I regret that bracelet going missing. Family heirlooms included. That bracelet meant the most. I can relate to these guys. Every one of them but especially the POW’S. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse from the age of 4 until 19 I was in a battle for my personal safety and mental health. I also had to look out for other children within range of the different sexual predators. I fought them physically and played mental mind games with them on a daily basis. I did everything but tell. Today? I’m 62 and I’ve lived my life with my disabilities from living those years and I have tried to make those bastards regret the day they let me live. It’s a battle. I win some and I lose some but even in a loss those bastards don’t forget they had a battle with me. Just every day situations in life. I have to say I have felt overwhelmed and beaten down. Watching these guys encourages me to get up and get on with the next thing. Grace and Godspeed in Jesus name ~ CG

The history of air warfare during the Korean and Viet Nam wars are an interesting history. It should be taught in all American history and political science class. The many facets help us understand the nature of war, the nature of politics, and human nature.

This is an example of Jocko showing warmth and friendliness out of respect for the harshness this man has experienced. Like This man has experienced enough toughness, from here in nothing but warmth and smiles for this man. Respect that completely.

These Veterans are rockstars in my eyes. Lets just say theyre part of the greatest generation also. We need to create a National holiday specifically for the Vietnam veteran. It wont make up for the viel behavior they endured when they came home but it would be a start

I agree, it's nice to have Veterns day but we should have a day for all medal of Honor heroes and also POW day, whether it's for WWI and WWII POWs or Korea, Vietnam or the Middle East POWs... these guys need a whole day just for them! Absolute legends for being able to survive for so long in such horrible conditions

We don't need a useless holiday to honor them. Instead of showing them how grateful you are one day a year how about shaking a veterans hand when you see one and actually start talking to them. A holiday and a meaningless comment on social media once a year isn't honoring anyone but yourself. Go to your local vfw and buy a round of beers for the vets and ask them their story if you actually give a damn about them.

This podcast changed my life. It isn't like I was code white to this point as I was raised by a WW2 vet who lived through a very tough 4 years of fighting and starvation/challenge of the dirty 30's before that. But the way Charlie and the others persevered, adapted and overcame their circumstances is a mental, emotional and soul level grounding for me going forward. Perspective. Thank you Jocko, Echo and of course, Charlie.

Charlie is the most amazing public speaker I have ever seen. I saw him speak at an FMC national meeting in Vegas several years ago! Had the opportunity to talk to him and have him sign my book. Only to find out he flies in to MY small town airport in Marshall, MO several times every year. On this Veterans Day thank you Charlie and every VET that has ever SERVED!

I'm late to the party but this man is an absolute hero and just an excellent human.

This guy has lived a rare life, most people including me don't know real difficulty and it really puts into perspective that we just shouldn't complain. We are free to act and improve at every moment, having a strong mind is something that will always serve you. Many people talk about there problems in such whining and weak ways like how hard it is for them when a man like this explains real difficulty in such a calm and humble way with no intention of making people feel sorry for him, just explaining it like it is, I have definitely learned some perspective from hearing Charlie plumbs story, very incredible stuff. It sounds like a film how hard it actually was being a POW and it's not every day that you get to hear from a person who actually lived through this. Jockos podcast has made me respect the military mindset / mental strength / discipline in so many ways, I am not involved with the military in any way, but I'm very thankful for Jocko and Echo putting out these great podcasts. Charlie plumbs story is awesome and he definitely deserves respect and recognition.
