    @@actuary33 The man was just too much sometimes but you loved him. I still remember the Pilot Episode when he called The Office and called JR "John" I think it was the only time he ever did that. Then he went down to The Office to watch The Hearings with JR himself. I also loved his Car.

    That scene chilled me when I was 12. He also Smoked when he told JR to stay out of Bobby & Pam's Business and JR said "Daddy All Of Your Life, You've Been Fighting Bobby's Battles, Isn't It About Time He Learned To Fight His Own." It was when Jenna Wade #1 played by Morgan Fairchild guest starred. Another fun fact, Jenna Louise Coleman (Victoria) was named after the character, her Family were big Dallas Fans back in the day.

    Also Jim Davis like Joan Van Ark where one of many actors who guest starred on Cannon. Other Actors most notably from Falcon Crest & The Young & The Restless also guest starred. Jim Davis is alot like Nancy Marchand (Livia Soprano) RIP in the sense that they did so many shows but it was Jock Ewing and Livia Soprano that gave them more iconic status than any other shows they did.

    Except for BBG, pretty sure the entire cast of Dallas never won awards for outstanding acting. The clip of Jock giving Bobby the mini lecture about “power” should have earned Jim Davis an Emmy. And the show itself rarely, if ever, received any award nominations, especially in the in the early seasons before Jim Davis died. Dallas changed the TV landscape. The show realistically covered issues that most shows and networks wouldn’t touch including breast cancer, alcoholism, and homosexuality. The show still holds up today despite dated clothes and hair. The Ewings will always be the best dysfunctional family ever on TV.

    Jock even showed what a "Complicated" Relationship he had with his Sons. With JR, he could never give him unconditional love something he may have realized was a big bad mistake in future years. With Bobby, he wanted him to be A Businessman and be responsible in helping to run Ewing Oil, Bobby does just as well as JR, but still Jock goes on about how "Ewing Oil was his!" Sadly enough there was a lot of truth in that fact since he did "Save" the Southfork from going into foreclosure.

    I liked the original Southfork mansion used in the early episodes. It seemed like it was always cold and the mood always seemed dark and brooding. Right after they changed locations, it seemed like they were hanging out at the pool all the time!

    Unfortunately, the house seen in the pilot episodes is the Cloyce Box house that was destroyed in a fire before Dallas got picked up as a series by CBS. I agree, that this house is more representative of Texas gentry, but Southfork Ranch the rest of the series wasn’t bad either. Of course it was considerably smaller than the Cloyce Box house.

    The old Southfork looked absolutely nothing like Jock would live in, Ellie would work on, or Aaron Southworth would build. Zero, zilch. Now Donna Reed Ellie I’d buy in that house, but BBG’s version wasn’t touched till the storyline fire, and Sue Ellen did the renovation. This Southfork just fit. The Ewings, even prim and proper JR, shot guns, went on cattle drives, went to public pools and parks, and went to public schools. They were raw, a tinge blue collar at moments, and knew what the other side was doing. Absolutely anyone could drive in and out of Southfork without going through a gate, and was greeted by the owners. That house fit them...the other didn’t

    @@taroobsingh2158 Maybe because it showed a Southern Vibe to it. I would have been kind of embarrassed spending "time" with My New Bride and not realize My Daddy & My Brother were discussing my Future. Come to think of it, it reminds me of the end of Godfather II when Tom Hagen oversteps his boundaries and tells Michael how "Pop" and he talked about his future.

    Why did they change ranch

  • @laminage

    @laminage

    3 жыл бұрын

    Because The owners of The Cloyce Box Ranch didn't want them to use it anymore that's when they switched "Houses". It was a blessing since it burned down in real life. Also they didn't realize it was going to be a TV Classic. It was only supposed to be a Miniseries of Six Episodes then it became a full fledged series. Also here's another fun fact, Knots Landing was created "First" before Dallas. They created Knots Landing to do another Show about Life in The Suburbs and a Family since Eight Is Enough was a hit. Also remember that Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, were also under the Lorimar Umbrella which is distributed through Warner Brothers. Another eerie fact is that before he became John Ross III on The New Dallas Josh Henderson was on Popstars 2 in 2001 "Before" American Idol debuted. He was in a short lived band called Scene 23 but they didn't go far. If they were a UK Group they would have done much better. Josh's former Co-Star Jesse Metcalfe used to date Nadine Coyle of Girls Aloud the most successful UK Girlband to come out of Reality TV.

    @@timothyturner1056 This Mansion was just a on a "Loan" so to speak. It was just supposed to be a Five Part Miniseries but it became a Hit and the rest is History. Coronation Street a UK SoapOpera that debuted on December 9th 1960 was supposed to run only 13 Episodes but it's still going strong and another UK Soap Emmerdale was supposed to run for only 26 Episodes but it's still on the air which will celebrate 50 Years next year.
