A lot of truth with the humor. Satan wanted to make Job's suffering as horrible as possible. Aside from losing possessions, family, health, and well-being, I think one of the the worst suffering one could experience is to to have the one you love most in the world hurt you by saying something as hateful as Job's wife did. Yes, I know she was also in alot of pain and emotional stress, but I think she let Satan use her to hurt Job even worse. I know she was probably mad at God which is understandable, but not a great excuse. Hopefully God and Job both forgave her for her moment of weakness. That being said, I think the bit is still funny. Be thankful if you have a good wife that would stand with you through good times and bad.

I think people forget the risk that women take to have children and she did that 10 times. Job did not grow those babies in his body and he did not give birth to them. That is a way different experience. She lost all ten of her kids too. Everything that happened to Job also happened to her, minus his personal physical ailments though she had to watch him suffer and go through that. You should look up what the original Hebrew for what she said actually is and it's possible meaning which is not what we've been taught. Furthermore Job had some moments of weakness which God rebukes him about. Job curses the day he was born. What an affront to God that is that no one wants to talk about. God still loved and carried him through A lot of God's people had moments of weakness and God walked through all of that with them restored and redeemed and healed them and carried them through and still loved them. We don't see God demonizing her so why do we do it? Especially when we take male characters and their moments of weakness and exalt them as showcases for God's grace?

@@ungmd21 The original Hebrew actually means bless God and die but it's more a cultural reference saying like make your peace with God and die or something like that because dying would be better than you suffering like this. She wasn't being nasty and spiteful like people think. And why is that the go to whenever we see women in the Bible trip up and stumble but the go to for when we see men blowing it and killing people or having temper tantrums or raping women or disobeying God with having 5 kabillion pagan wives there's empathy shown towards them and they're somehow trophies of God's grace? References to Moses David Solomon etc...... And specifically for the women the references are for Eve, Job's wife, and Sarah........ Comparatively speaking not even on the same level. And what are these differences with roles by the way when we see women doing all kinds of amazing things through the word? Why are we trying to live out the curse from the fall instead of the loving union where both have dominion over the Earth together and both are an amazing team together rooted and established in God's love? And where we're all a family and brothers and sisters in Christ rooted and established in that love as well? And why does it always seem like so many men are never actually seeking God's heart and never fully letting His love into their hearts?

He couldnt take Job's wife because when you marry, the two become one. God meant that when he said the two shall become one. Interesting, isn't it. That's why divorce hurts so much. As much as death. It rips the two apart. Ever wonder why people say they "feel like their heart is being ripped out" or their "home/family was ripped apart"... it feels that way because being separated is as spiritual as it is physical. At any rate, his joke was funny. As usual.

Local man loses everything in one fell swoop and his wife tells him to curse God and die. A+ encouragement there But there actually is a theological reason for why Job's wife didn't die. Everything Job lost he received again at greater quantities than prior, except for his children because he will be reunited with his deceased sons and daughters in the Ressurection. His wife never died because he can't have more than one ("if you can't laugh at yourself, laugh at the Mormons!")

bishiewuvr theological... reason... being how God did what he wanted. Job's wife would empathize with Job's suffering. So the two became one in tragedy, feeling as the other might. And being wed to one wife would have been a problem for Job if his wife was the only one that "sinned". What then, dear Job? "The helper you sent here to help me has sinned...and may shortly hereafter die. What is an eternity without her?"? The testing of the husband by his God resulting in the pains of his wife? An Adam without an Eve...perhaps Job would have been like Jesus who lived all his days on earth without a wife? How long did the married Adam live as compared to the perfect yet wifeless Jesus? Similar yet so very different. "Man cannot live on bread alone" "leave his parents and cling to his wife" "in order to fulfill all that was written" "there will be no marriage in heaven" I mean, how sad is the last quote? If coupled with "they will be like the Angels in heaven" especially when we're told that the women of earth were so attractive that angels came down to earth to be with them! [edit] I deleted the comment thinking no one replied, only to look down and see the replies. Here's the comment they hate. :/ At least you won't be curious. John: Jesus surely did not marry a woman in the bible. "Jesus without a wife" does not mean that I believe Jesus married a woman. It simply states the idea of a man without a wife and Jesus being a man without a wife being another statement and finding sorrow in it. Gid: What blasphemy? Jesus is believed to be fully God and fully man, yet you know not what I intended by what I wrote. [edit2] I came back and reread my comment. It didn't make any sense until I thought it through again, so I reworded my comment to have it make sense to my present self, not my past self.

When God challenged Satan (Job 1:8 - God knew Job would hold out until the end) and Satan accepted God's challenge (Job 1:12) with a condition ("ALL" that he have - children, livestock and WIFE included except "don't kill him".) Satan thought he had an upper hand. He had brilliantly planned to leave Job's wife intact (because to kill Job, Satan would have disqualified himself by breaking the "rule" of the contest and lost) knowing that the wife (his pawn) was a "weak link" to be used strategically to persuade Job to "curse God and kill" himself (Job 2:9) at the time when Job was inflicted(by Satan) with the most painful sores all over his body. (Job 2:7) We read how the story penned out at the end of chapter 42. Even Job three so called 'friends' that Satan also used were humbled because they were merely humans subjected to a limited knowledge about the nature of God. So Eliphaz from Teman, Bildad from Shuah, and Zophar from Naamah obeyed the LORD. Then the LORD answered Job's prayer. Job prayed for his friends, and the LORD made Job successful again. The LORD gave him TWICE as much as he had before. Then all his brothers and sisters and all the people who knew him before came to his house. They all ate a big meal with him. They comforted him and were sorry that the LORD had brought him so much trouble. Each person gave Job a piece of silver and a gold ring. The LORD blessed Job with even more than he had in the beginning. Job got 14,000 sheep, 6000 camels, 2000 oxen, and 1000 female donkeys. He also got seven sons and three daughters. He named the first daughter Jemimah and the second daughter Keziah. He named the third daughter Keren Happuch. Job's daughters were among the MOST BEAUTIFUL women in all the country. And, like their brothers, they each got a share of their father's property. So Job lived for 140 years MORE. He lived to see his children, his grandchildren, his great-grandchildren, and his GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. Job lived to be a very old man who had lived a good, long life.' (Job 42:9-17) The Book of Job is said to be the oldest book in the Bible. The record that "Job lived to be a very old man.. for 140 years MORE" I submit to you that Job could have lived during the time of the previous earth’s civilization (before Adam and Eve were created.)

Y'know why God didn't let Satan take out Job's wife? Cuz he'd have to give him back TWO. God isn't that cruel...

@@iacoponefurio1915 In Exodus 4:26 she said, "a bloody husband are you, because of the circumcision." She was clearly opposed to circumcision, so she was probably the cause of him not having circumcised his son, and thus incurring Yahweh's wrath. Only at the last minute when she saw the consequences did she relent.

Job lost everything, his livestock, his houses, land and his children. Then God covered him in boils. Lets not forget that his wife lost all of those things as well. She lost all of her children in one day. Then she had to watch her husband suffer. We in the church need to stop shamming this women. There is noting funny about this joke. None of us would never be able to go through what she had to endure. She never lost her faith completely. She was in a lot of pain when she made that statement to Job!

Just because she was on a lot of pain doesn't excuse her telling Job to "curse God and die." His joke is the truth. Satan was testing Job. And when nothing else worked, he tried using jobs wife to his advantage. Lighten up.

I have a great sense of humor. Just not into laughing about a women that was clearly in a lot of pain. God can handle what she said. He know she was in pain. He also knows her heart. She never lost her sense of who he is. This is not a joke to me. Would anyone laugh at a women in such pain in your church if this story happen to someone that we knew. I strongly doubt it. This was areal women in real pain!

It was god that did all of that to Job not the devil. The devil only convinced him to do that in order to test his faith.

tomer gilron Nope. It was Satan who did it all with God's permission. Not one thing can happen to you without the Lord knowing first. This was all done to test Job's Faith.

Well, God sent Satan to test it's faith. Most things that are god's doing in the bible are actually god sending one of his servants to do it.

Actually, God did not SEND Satan, Satan asked for permission to afflict Job, and God ALLOWED him to act on his own in order to prove a point. And Satan is NOT one of God's servants.
