JL Audio XD600/1 v2 Amp Dyno Test

Ғылым және технология

We were really impressed by the little JL XD500/3 we picked up a few years ago, so when I came across a deal on an XD600/1 v2, I decided to pick it up to try on the Amp Dyno.

It has a low pass filter, output polarity switch, input sensitivity & 3 turn on modes. Curious if its set-up for 2ohm or 4ohm load, what the rms and up clipping power is... 🤔 Seems this amp would be good for the W3-6.5, wired in parrallel series @ 2ohms. Can send it in for Testing

Good vid. And I agree with you to a point. It's a well-built sexy amp. But not $450 sexy. Plenty of other QUALITY NAME-BRAND amplifiers for ~$200 less. And while $200 isn't the world, that difference becomes more when we look at the 1000/1 or 1000/5. $620 for a 1kW amp is tough these days. (lol Looking back at the 90s and now can't believe I'm saying that LOL)

Hey BIG D! This was JL XD600/1v2 back in 2017! Did JL do some revisions of NEXT-D technology making the 2021 models more EFFICIENT, especially at 4 compared to 2 Ohms? I remember some truly great 83% efficiency here on the older model Rockford R500xd1. Everybody I speak to around here thinks the JL XD600/1v2 is the MORE efficient of the two! What's the REAL DEAL TODAY? What of the Rockford R2 500/1? Hmmm.

JL makes quality products for sure and a lot of their stuff is still made in the US . I see a lot of companies trying to come back with made in the USA, well JL has been doing it since the beginning and remained a strong brand while others failed, because they chose to keep quality consistent... Even if you have to pay a little more than some other brands. If you want to "Make America great again" you should support the people who have made America great this whole time. Now if they could just lower the prices 30%... 😂😂😂

The China bias from the 80's continues to infiltrate it seems. They may have cheaper labor due to a different economic infrastructure but the truth is, they have some of the most sophisticated and advanced manufacturing facilities in the world. It's not like the USA doesn't have any lazy workers or anything ya know. You might help a local economy somewhere in the USA but it doesn't mean the quality will be better at all. Too many daydreamers, drama queen, meth head workers here to be trusted working on an assembly line while maintaining a good work focus and work ethics for it to be any better at manufacturing than any other country. High end, low end...it doesn't make any difference what country it comes from as everyone produces terrible to fantastic products. What matters is good engineering, state of the art manufacturing and quality control.

    would you choose a 500/1v2 or a 600/1 for a w7 10"

I chose the HD1200/1 for my 10W7. Will let you know how it works soon. I think the HD750 is probably enough though. In a choice between the XD600/1 or Slash 500/1, I'd go with the slash since the 10W7 is 3 ohms

Totally different amps. The Slash amps use a power supply that makes rated power anywhere from 1-4 ohms. The XD's are unregulated so you get the impressive numbers seen in this video when you drop the resistance load.

I lucked up into one of these and a 400/4 for $25 dollars apiece about 2 months ago and they quickly replaced my skar amp.

I like my skar audio stuff btw. But the JL amp has a much warmer sound to it then my rp.800 does.

I bridged the 400/4 to 200/2 and put my skar zvx8s on that one. Perfect wattage for those speakers idk why you would ever need more then that and expect them to sound good. My little subaru stereo setup came along way from factory I still use all my factory speakers as nothing but highs. My 8s are my mids and one evl 12 is my bass sub and with only about 1000 watts altogether my car gets off. No lights dim when it hits, bass is crystal clear and the entire car flexes. I wanna meter it to see where it's at. I'm not a SPL guy though I am definetly a SPQ but at the same time I want my neighbor to know I got the beat in the back lol. Hard to make a budget system that can make me happy but I'm close to having it done. I might try a taramp 3k and see how I can make it work for me but if it doesn't have the warmness sound of the JL it's gonna go on Facebook market place 😅

Much rather the Orion Xtr 4000.1, 650$ for 4k rms x1 @ 1ohm. It's my next and possibly last amp. Its a bit bigger than that guy, and might be harder to mount tho =D

Damn dude sweet vid but if its JL you have to do a 3ohm run, not critizing just saying cuz most of there high end line (W7) as you know (im assuming) is all 3ohm stuff

  • @wal

Right, but they offer plenty of DVC 4 ohm subs for 2 ohm loads as well. The Dyno doesn’t have a specific mode for 3 ohms, but has 2.67

While this maybe a quality amplifier, it is still way to expensive. For reference, the Pioneer GM-9601 will put out way more power (1700w @1ohm) but only costs around $150. For an amp that costs close to 3x as much, the JL should put out much more power or be certified down to 1 ohm. As mentioned in the video, it doesn't even come with a remote level adjust, a feature that definitely should come with the amp especially considering the Pioneer comes with one. I can also see a price increase because of the size being a factor. However, I would not consider that to be worth a massive jump.

  • @wal

    @wal

I agree it should come with a remote bass knob, I see both JL and Alpine sell these separately for their higher end amps. This XD600/1 is only 8.5x7x2 inches, can be easily hidden for a stealth setup. It's not for everybody. I bought this one used for 150 and I'm very happy with it.

For $150 I would jump on this amp no problem, glad you enjoy it. I would also be interested in an efficiency test between a JL, Pioneer, and other amps. Does this amp do better than others in the price range?

Your pioneer amp is not even comparable for sound quality. Prs amps are great but not the regular pioneer .Try running it below its rated impedance. Cuts off.

I have 1 and tried to run at 1ohm, worked for like 2 months, burnt it up, sent it back got it here but was going to see how it pushes 2 skar 12s. When I blew it I was running 2 xmaxx 12s. I have those on the xtreme 18k amp pushing them pretty good at 1ohm no issues for almost a yr now
