One of the most important tracks in the soundtrack of my life. Thank you Jimmy.

There were many songs referred to as gay anthems in the 80s. The remarkable thing about this one particular song is that it resonated with straight people too, and gave so many of them a glimpse into the life of young gay man of the time and created empathy. This song built bridges between straight and gay men during a very turbulent time in a way which I’m not sure any other song ever did. This song created many, many gay allies during a period when we desperately needed gay allies.

I have no personal link but this song always triggers empathy and an indulgent wallow in melancholy. Thank you Jimmy for being proud when others hid, this has made us all better people. PS I think I saw you on your bike in Farringdon I the 90'S and it made my day.

It’s deceptively clever because it taps into deeply human fears of isolation and vulnerability. That’s something we can all understand, irrespective of sexuality, race or gender, and in conveying that sense of isolation it’s what connects us and what makes it beautiful.

I remember when my dad kicked me out 2weeks before my 13th birthday because he found out I was gay, I hitched hiked 45 miles to edmonton alberta where I meet up with other kids and we lived under a bridge, for many months before I left to sleep in a tree in Paul Kane Park. Where I lived and bathed in the water fountain mini river , they had. This song is the soundtrack to my life on the streets , Thank you, Jimmy, for this amazing song, which I relate to so poignantly . Luv your voice and think your hot 🔥 wess from Canada

I think most people who listen to this song don’t even realize the lyrics are so sad, they just dance to it. It’s about a gay boy who has to runaway from home to be himself. His whole town judged him and put him down.
