As a Canadian living in Australia for a few years - mid 80's, I fell in love with Barnes and Cold Chisel. When I thumbed through the 'bargain bin' back in Canada, I found "Freight Train Heart" and purchased it. When I listened to it ... I was blown away!

This song should be included in the National Australian Anthem of the truckies. Excellent song! This song reminds me of my dad who died 14 years ago. He liked this song. Not giving up or giving in. Chasing your dreams.

I was old enough to start driving truck in 2005 and...well...by now, all the magic just seems to be gone. No more "freedom of the highway", just more paperwork. This kind of old song, though, rekindles a tiny spark of joy again, so I keep coming back to it every few months. 🙂

Barnes is still alive. In fact, he is forming a group with the ex-drummer of the Stray Cats and they are playing rock-a-billy. (No real surprise there). Born in Scotland and moved to Australia when he was five years old. If you want to hear him at his best watch the video called Lazy. Incredible performance by him AND one of Bonnamassa's best rock songs.

This is heaven to a truckie Especially when your going through the gears and it comes on the radio
Legendary song. My Dad bought me Barnesy's Anthology for my 10th birthday and I've been a lifelong Chisel/Barnes fan ever since. Keep on rocking!
30 years later he screaaming high notes in the cloud
Well he's following the broken lines Living on borrowed time Motel rooms and broken hearts all left behind You swear he couldn't close his eyes As he shifts into overdrive He's been up and down this road so many times The man of his own And searching just keeps him proving That only the road Can tame the rebel in his soul It's the rhythm of the highway As he rolls on down And city lights as they fade from sight Drives the man behind the driving wheels Like a cowboy in a rodeo Riding hard but never letting go You'll be wand'ring through the twilight of his life Waylon Jennings on the radio Country music and engines roar Like a shooting star across a desert sky And he's got a home But it's out on the blue horizon Heaven only knows There's still a rebel in his soul It's the rhythm of the highway As he rolls on down And city lights as they fade from sight Drives the man behind the driving wheels And chasing southern lights In the distant sky And open plains with the mountains high Drives the man behind the driving wheels Well he's thought about settling down A little diner on the edge of town But in this world of push and shove He's still got freedom in his blood It's the rhythm of the highway

The lyrics, this is perhaps the greatest road song rock n roller that says a million things to millions of people, thanks again for the lyrics, a reminder when we all sing along , such a story too. Still am,azed at this mans quality, and to think he thought for so long in his life he was no good not worth it, a lesser person thank god he came through, because he is such a good person , he didn't see it in himself, only others, well you are Jim a good human , read your books, what an experience your life has been. This song I feel like was made not only for the truck drivers but for the trucks themselves My great uncle was a truckie and operated out of Margaret river out here in WA. But he had to stop trucking 2 years prior to this song releasing due to a terminal illness... but despite his trucking days behind him and himself long gone I am proud to say that his first truck - a 1979 Kenworth K100 flatbed - which was his favourite lives on and will do so until all things come to an end This song I feel like is especially for people like him and the trucks the beasts that roar down the roads that truly are part of the 3 major things that keep Australia going - Trucks, ships and trains- Australia wouldn’t be the same or as lively without them

American. Friends with a Russian trucker. First time hearing this. I grew up in the age of "Convoy" and "Phantom 309" and "Eastbound and Down." This song follows the tradition with the hard drive, high energy of the 1980s. Already I love it as much as I do "Working Class Man" that I heard in the '86 movie "Gung Ho."
Как это больно терять друзей из-за нелепой случайности...мои молитвы с вами...❤
It was March 1988, I had been in Australia for about 4 hours and this came on MTV and I was like 'how the fuck have I never heard this guy before?' Been a massive Cold Chisel and JB fan ever since. Aussie Rock at its best.
For about two years, I was living the lyrics to this song as a long haul truck driver. It makes me miss that life
Grew up with my brothers who had a band...They made me play cassettes and memorize songs from Jimmy Barnes,Johnny Farnham,Aussie Crawl and other bands of the 70s...explains my love for Golden Oldies music..
Shipping Steel comes a close second, then , I'd die to be with you, third.

What a start. The instrumental at the begining makes me think of a big rig reving up from the depot, or in the city. then the drum and rhythm kicks in as he hits the broken lines on the highway
I was 17 when this song arrived and was lucky to hear Barnsy in the 80's after the epic Cold Chisel ❤
I love this song and the production. The drums 🥁 are powerful.
They've always been underpaid, under appreciated, overworked, targeted by police and screwed over by Work Cover. There are some bad peas in the pod but most are real heroes, saving lives along the way like my husband did before his work injury which ironically was in the yard and not out on the road. I'm still fighting WC 15 months after he died which was 3 years after his injury. There are many of us who've lost our loves to the road and not only truckies.

Much respect for you and your hubby. The logistics industry is a tough game. WC is a bastard to deal with and I'm sorry you had to endure it. I'm sure your hubby will be looking down on the rest of us in the game. I hope this song gives you great memories of a great time in Australia. RIP
Great Song and excellent clip . And for those seeing this from Overseas , or locally and don't know , the Brown , Bonneted Truck featured heavily in the clip IS : A Kenworth S . A . R . Hello mate
I did a short stint as a long-haul trucker across the U.S., but those road trains you guys drive down there in Oz sound like a new definition of a hard run. In any case, I love the song. It reminds me of the only good thing about that job: the miles themselves, the open road.
🚚Driving Wheels 🚛 . Thanks Jimmy Barnes ❤. For dedicating this song❤ . For your sweet precious dad❤ . Every Man and Woman ❤. Who drives 18-wheelers every day of the week ❤. I Want To Thank You . For all your dedication ❤. Seeing that the load you are carrying ❤. Get delivered to their destination ❤. Drive safe and take care of your selves 💓.
'Truck on and keep the engines turned on', this music is the one Im looking for. The best rock music that Jimmy Barnes has ever composed of for every trucker they listen to.
Beautiful, a song dedicated to all Truckies out there. Keep em Prime Movers rollin'.
Rock is on the endangered list but we'll always have Barnsey to fall back on...... Music that touches the soul
I lived in Oz when Cold Chisel and Barnsy when hot. ‘Working Class Man’ was and is one of the greatest anthems of all time. I have many happy memories of driving to work in my mates HQ Kingwood or my XY Falcon blasting out Cold Chisel, Jimmy Barney’s, the Angels and Midnight Oil. Great days sadly missed 😎.
I remember as a kid first hearing this and blown away. Couldnt afford the whole album so i got it on a good old cassingle
