    I was born, raised, and still live in Minnesota and when I was a kid in the 80s, my favorite AWA wrestler was Buck Zumhoffe. Eventually, I became a referee on the Indy circuit and met Buck a few times. Then I found out what he was into and if you don’t know, let’s just say that he probably got along really well with Bob Sweetan and Grizzly Smith.

    Paul Boesch wouldn’t book him in Houston because he was such a morally repugnant individual who had a bad reputation. In an industry with lots of shady characters, you have to be pretty bad to stand out even more than usual.

    Joe Blanchard was the same way, Grizzly Smith, Sweetan and Zumhof were untouchable, the difference between Leroy and The Gagne's though is that Vern and Greg knew what was going on with Zumhof and his daughter and did nothing.

    I remember years ago watching one of those Legends of Wrestling roundtables on WWE 24/7 and J.R. made a quick comment about Bob Sweetan being a miserable human being. I never knew the details behind that comment until watching this clip.

    Sweetan for a long time in Mid-South was the brass knuckles champion. You could tell he was real stiff with the lesser talent in the ring and would bust them up pretty bad. Danny Hodge had enough of him at one time and beat the snot out of him in the locker room, enough to send him back up north.

    My Uncle was a Deputy Sheriff in San Francisco. He broke up a fight between Bob Sweetan and Ray Stevens at a bar near the Cow Palace around 1979 or 1980. Stevens beat the hell out of him and had him bloodied up pretty good according to my Uncle.

    According to Wikipedia Sweetan was convicted of sexually assaulting his daughter. He was deported back to Canada, where he died in a nursing home in 2017.

    As much of a fan I am of the old-school style of the business I am glad that wrestling of today doesn't deal with the scum and dregs of society like in years past. There's a lot to be desired for me as a fan with today's pro wrestling approach, but I'm glad that the sport is cleaner drug and alcohol wise and physical and s&#%al abuse gets punished.
