Jim Power : The Lost Dimension (Homebrew) NES - Walkthrough
Jim Power is a shoot'em up game similar to Mega Man, Turrican, Contra and the like. There is a bit of a split story of the game, as two different versions were made that share the same enemies, bosses, level designs, and soundtrack. In Jim Power Mutant Planet, Jim Power is sort of John MClane type detective, which is called in to rescue the president's daughter who has been captured by an evil monster and taken to Mutant Planet. In Jim Power in Lost Dimension, which portrays Jim Power as an Intergalactic Soldier, Jim travels to a 5th dimension to stop an evil monster called Vaprak from invading and destroying earth. The Game Soundtrack features rocking music composed by Chris Huelsbeck (Turrican, Gemx, Apidya, Tunnel V1)
Back Story of the Project:
In 2014 we decided to acquire the license of the Amiga classic game Jim Power to develop a version of the game for NES.
When we finalized the licensing agreement, the original programmers sent us a batch of files and assets of the game. To our surprise, in those folders, we found a fully playable Sega Genesis version of Jim Power In the Lost Dimension.
We started development for NES version right away. We developed tools, engine, and assets from scratch. We planned to release the project in 2016. Unfortunately in 2016, as we started emailing the original creator about the progress of the game for approval, we stopped hearing back from him. We waited for responses for over a year, so we kept delaying the release.
Unfortunately, in 2018, we found out that the original creator of Jim Power had passed away in 2016. This complicated things for the project, as we needed certain permissions for what we wanted to do with the game release. We then started working with the original creator's partner and his estate to fully acquire the rights of Jim Power IP.
Around September 2019, we acquired full rights of Jim Power intellectual properties, which would allow us to work with the property as we wanted and release the game without complications.
Jim Power NES was built from scratch by popular NES programmer Shiru. He developed level design tools, as well as graphics conversion tools. He also developed the game engine from scratch. Jim Power NES was NOT made by any sort of game maker program; so the quality of the product is far superior. With this port, we'd like to reach a much higher bar quality as far as NES game releases.
Our acquisition of the Jim Power IP now allows us to produce other kind of projects/media with the character and story. The Stretch Goals list will reflect what sort of other projects we'd like to envision for Jim Power!

A melhor versão pelo visto...Muito bom
It s just incredible for NES. Very smooth, well animated, colorful... Who could imagine the NES could do this
Graphically this is the best looking NES game I’ve ever seen
I liked the video and just for curiosity (after seen that secret boss) I check the description and OMG, such sad story about the creator, Im sure he will be pleased to see how far you guys took project, getting a license is pretty ambicious and I admire your dedication!!!
Ohh Man, that soundtrack sounds so sublime. I love the Nes / Famicom Chip tunes.
Impressive. The player sprite is better animated than the SNES counterpart.
Funny how the NES version has a WAY BETTER camera than any other version. They just sticks the character at the middle of the screen, making fast enemies almost impossible to react in time.
Wow! Each detail of level design, amazing sprites, perfect use of limited color palette, BIG sprites, BiG Bosses. Thank you so much for creating something so special for my heart console.

The float face platform... 🤩🤩🤩🤩
What a masterpiece !!! 😱 Congrat to the devs, really.
Damn, the music is amazing! They used the NES' DMC channel for the bass just like Sunsoft
What irritates me most is that so many tried to get the NES style retro formula right and they never fully did. But Jim Power NES style got everything right? From color palettes, to gameplay feel, sounds and music, everything is just right. Think of Igarashi's 8bit attempts of his own Castlevanis style games. Never worked forme. Or Capcom's own Mega Man 9 and 10? Those never convinced me to replicate the NES type of games the classic Mega Man games have been. So recently I decided to get my the Qubyte Classics Jim Power games and when I played the 8bit title I was in for the nicest surprise ever. Finally a developer team that got the classic NES feel properly done. Whilst retaining the Jim Power gameplay and all from the 16bit classics, they made this NES typegame from scratch. Impressive is the least I can say. I like retro style games. Some nail the Sega Genesis style perfectly like Blazing Chrome. Others play like Turbo Grafics games like Oniken. And some games look like latter GBA titles like this "new" TNMT game. But never has anyone done the NES retro style this perfect before. Hats off before the developers who gave us that beautiful game, Jim Power 8bit NES style version. Now let's have Capcom getting their 8bit Mega Man games right and another (this time for real NES style) Mega Man game. Or Iga getting the classic Castlevania formula right for once.

This is not only an NES style game, this is literally an NES game
I loved this game, despite the difficulty it had. Plus that music was always a treat to listen to. Great to see it all convert over very well to an NES style. Amazing!
Este juego es una maravilla, las animaciones del personaje son fantásticas, la musica esta a un nivel superior y las explosiones hacen un efecto de transparencia fantastico.

Looks fantastic!!!
Very proud to have an NES game named after me!!! Epic
I like it changes the time pickups to gun power ups from the SNES version
Damn, that fake ending was actually funny, plus the final boss is *so so* much better than the original ports and Amiga counterpart, plus the new music is actually good
A NES port of Jim Power? First notice. Pretty awesome.

This looks, sounds and plays much better than the Genesis and SNES versions. Best version!
Mind blown!😱Somebody should invent time machine and sent this game back to the past.
This port is ridiculous good, I am pretty sure if there would have been an official port it would not be near this.

It would probably look like the NES port of Altered Beast. Yeah this port is beyond impressive.
WOW 🤩 To pull this off on a 8Bit console is incredible, I still can’t believe my eyes and ears! Congratulations Shiru san! ✌️ #ichiban
Amazing work. I wish I could see the actual pixels though.
Very nice. The weird parallax scrolling on the 16-bit versions was nauseating, so it's good to see it gone. Who did the music?
A new gem for NES definitely, & wow looks like a 16 bits game.
Belíssimo game gráficos e som nota 10 os jogos de sempre surpriendendo
Shiru is awesome
Isto corre num Nintendo de verdade?. Gráficos, som, animações, impressionante. Fantástico. Parabéns.

Anyone know of Shiru's other NES works? Would be cool to check them out.
This doesn't even look like a legit NES game but a PC game using "NESlike" pixel art. How did they do it?!!!!!

I hear alot of Konami and sSunset sound samples.
Whoever wrote this ... impressed with the lack of graphical glitching.
Anyone has the ROM??
Donde puedo conseguir la rom...where I find the rom
Dont emulate this with crap filters, please
This isn’t a homebrew. This is an official release worked on by members of the same design team as the 16-bit originals.

No, it isn't. It was merely commissioned and approved by them, but it was still made by one dude. They bundled in the Steam release, though.
It's look like SNES not NES. Probably best looking game for NES. There is only 2K RAM, I'm curious how much ROM there is for that.
I bought it on Steam years ago and still not received it
Is it just me or does the screen shake sometimes?

This is cute but this ain't no real Jim Power : The Lost Dimension. Where are the seizure inducing scrolling backgrounds? Huh? 🤢🤮💀 No, but seriously, this looks great. 👍🏽
Way too repetitive and simplistic gameplay dude.
