It's like jazz music: Some comics are at their best in collaborative improvisation, working off each other, organically setting each other up & being motived to top one another *in the moment*. Any conversation with Norton in it is fun as fuck, because his personality is so great. And hearing him really laugh his ass off is as fun as hearing him come up with a great line on the spot. His stand up is just him alone telling us jokes in sequence. It's not awful, but all the most attractive and unique parts of his personality are missing. He's like a competent musician who can play a song, but really fucking blows you away when he's jamming with other great musicians. tl;dr I agree with you

Something that tipped me off to Norton's degeneracy is the manner in which, while co-hosting (IIRC) some show, he so vociferously tore into Jesse Ventura. I got a very strong sense the comic had taken money from Ventura's political enemies to provoke the former governor in the most aggressive manner he could muster. Ventura never retaliated, but the co-host kept on coming until he was literally driven off the show. Even if, incredibly, the views Norton was espousing were his own and he was actually that passionate about them, his behavior towards a respected former Navy SEAL was completely uncalled for. Good people don't treat even their worst enemies with so much disrespect. Edit for sentence structure
