When I watched the series in the 90s, I used to identify myself with Brandon and Brenda. Now I totally identify with their parents since Brandon and Brenda could be my children 🙂

Jim Walsh had plenty of empathy & understanding. Even if he didn't always show it. Though he was a typical Baby Boomer parent in that he was strict, tough & forthright yet also more flexible, open minded & considerate to the fashions, styles & tastes of his kids than those of the preceding generation were. Jim Walsh put his family first.

@@TheRampagingGallowglass75 Like I said, he was the typical parent of Generation X. He was a hard ass and his empathy didn't come out until after he upset everyone and felt like an jerk, and he was especially harder on Brenda for being female than he was on Brandon which was also typical of the generation X parent. There was always a double standard between girls and boys. I remember it all too well.

This was almost literally an episode of The Brady Bunch. Mr. Brady even used the same line on Greg… “Caveat emptor, let the buyer beware.”

2 things: First, at 2:39, it's clear through Jim's awkwardness that he has never thrown keys up in the air and caught them before in his life. Second, as this was before Uber, who is going to drive Jim home while the kids go for their joyride? He's not a member of the Beverly Hills Beach Club due to money concerns (See episode The Party Fish). So who took him home?

It's a lot more expensive nowadays. Back in 2014, it was about a little over $300 a day. A few years back in 2019, it was about $450 a day. I suppose it depends on location. Either way, it is expensive and sometimes not worth it. Brandon is clearly inexperienced when it comes to purchasing a car, in this situation, the purchase of a lemon 🍋car that is worth somewhere between $2,000 to $500. Brandon is clearly not a mechanic, so he made an honest mistake. His dad Jim has a right to lecture Brandon on his mistake, and he is angry because it costs a lot of money. Cindy is very supportive and completely neutral.
