Jim Gaffigan | Dark Comedy From the Cleanest Comedian | Mike Birbiglia's Working It Out
Комедия
Mike met Jim Gaffigan in 1997 when he cold-called Jim’s New York City landline. Jim appeared as a guest on Working It Out in 2021 and now, between touring with Jerry Seinfeld, releasing his 10th comedy special “Dark Pale,” and raising money for the Georgetown Scholars Program, Jim sits down with Mike in-studio for his second Working It Out chat. The old friends go deeper as they work out material and discuss how Jim actually doesn’t like hot pockets, what item of clothing comedians should never wear, and why being married to a comedian is like having a roommate who is a conspiracy theorist.

Jim Gaffigan doesn’t need to do crowd work because he already does it by himself. All those high-pitched asides are brilliant
"You were dumb enough to be so vulnerable to ONE person..." I was dying during this part....FACTS!!!
I'm so glad you're getting these podcasts on video now and posting them here. Good stuff!
Jim gaffigan is my favorite comedian now. I’m 58 kids grandkids wife over 10 yrs. He is living my same life!
Love Jim Gaffigan, he’s so normal! Jeannie Gaffigan is just as funny as Jim, but, they have 100 kids she’s raising right now, so she’s busy. The Gaffigan’s saved my sanity during the pandemic, having dinner every evening on YT, tons of laughs and love and games around the dinner table. Thank you Jim and Jeannie! 🌺💕
Jim’s Cooridor of Hate joke reminds me of John Waters take on Baltimore which is serviced by the same Acela line: "[on Baltimore] ... it’s outside the curtain of irony, which starts in Philadelphia and surrounds New York. There’s no real bikers in New York, only faux bikers. If you move to New York, just by moving there, it proves you have irony. But in Maryland there are real bikers, real hillbillies. It’s not a fashion statement. They’re not dressing like that one night of the week in a night club."
I love Mike Birbiglia! I saw him live in Montreal in 2014 and I sat in the front row. Was my first ever comedy show and I rested my backpack on the stage and Mike used it as a prop 😂
Jim's brain going off in so many directions as he's deciding how he wants to answer
Comedy Perfection, thy name is Jim Gaffigan.
I love Mike’s bit about how we on-time people hate late people. I laughed so hard because it’s true. 😂
Two comedic legends😊

Mike was there too.
Best part: Mike has a name plate on his desk... in his home office!
Hilarious when JG says “your audience is people who party” and everyone, including MB, immediately thought Brent Kreschner. Burnt Kressler Bent Kisser Err, Bert Kreicscher…

I really don’t care for Seinfeld but I just love Jim Gaffigan !
The idea of Mike having a secret hour of super dark material is making me laugh so hard
Watched Birbiglia's new special....outrageous. Genius.
I recently became a fan of yours because a friend of my husband told him that he looks like you, so I looked you up. True-you really do look like a younger version of my husband (cutie pie!) and now I am a fan based on your comedy, which is fantastic. I’m thrilled to discover this video because I have been a fan of Jim Gaffigan for almost 20 years. His comedy is so intelligent. I’ll be looking for your next show near NYC so my husband and I can see you in person.
I'm in Heaven! One of my favorite comedians interviewing the my other favorite!
Jim dressed like a refined gentleman.
Could have done with another hour of that. Great.
I could listen to Mike and Jim talk shop all day. This is heaven!
I love that Jim and I have the same taste in music
Hanging with two amazingly funny guys .. what’s not to love? 💚💙 great podcast !!!
I like Jim's humor because he does not take himself seriously, he is "normal, he admits shit that most of us can relate to but would never say...humble!
This was SO good. two of mt favorite comedians are just shootin' the shit

Best of all they can both be trusted to not say 'shit' in their corporate acts
The birbigs bezos roast was scrubbed from the internet lol.

Shouts to the northeast corridor!
Could you imagine if someone did a full set just talking about standup? Cause that's what this feels like.
You're looking great Jim!!!! "Riiiight"?
Love both of these guys! That said... The Minnesota State Fair is the best! Food on a stick was born there. Spaghetti and meatball on a stick? Hell yeah. Also, there are so many great comedians from Minnesota. Minneapolis has a fantastic Stand-up reputation. Minnesotan's may be nice, but they're also very witty.

It’s because of all that upper Midwest repression. Louis Anderson did a great bit on it. You could probably find it…
“Hot Pocket Material” became a McCarthy trial. I’m in love.
The discussion about crowd work made me really wish you'd do an episode with Matteo Lane. It would be such an interesting conversation.
So many good nuggets in this.
Love Jim & Mike talking shop! Happy anniversary Hope and Mike!
I love these two people so much
Great convo by two greats!
Okay okay couldn’t stand it my two favorite comedians together ….. heaven and o needed good laughs right now glad I found this
What a great conversation. I would have enjoyed another hour.
He never ate hotpockets?!?!?? hahhahhhahahhhhahhahhahhhahhhahhhah
23:00 lol Jim that’s Dark Pale and quick anyone who questions this dude’s comic mind omg
New favourite podcast.
I haven't listened yet but just gotta say Mike you look so healthy! Jim....well he be Jim. Never really heard him talk IRL so this is very cool.
I used to listen to Mike on "Bob & Tom". Now I just subscribed. Full circle.
AH! I love the comments on marriage. Makes me feel like a normal person.
Tampa and Columbus Ohio were always the place where your new restaurant gets perfected before you open sites 6-100. (Midwestern taste tests)
I'm sorry, Mike, but Jim wins. We are Birbigliites.
Get Dax Shepherd on next please!
Great podcast ❤
Love Jim Gaffigan! Clean and subversive.
Jim looks really good and healthy. What will he make jokes about?
Wow! I was listening to Mike on the Smartless podcast and found out that he had his own podcast on then saw this episode and didn’t get to finish the original podcast yet!!!
Jim sitting in the power position. 👑
Just came across this so let's get cookin😊
Love Jerry seinfeld and he is amazing live.
35:16 me when the opening clip arises: Leo pointing meme 😅
Biggest change for Jim; not doing the baby voice. Thank you for that.
Come on Jim. We'd love to see you do a roast. You could roast Colbert or somebody. It would be hilarious.
Hey, man, what's with the disrespect for Buffalo?!😂
"you know what I mean"..... 😁
Pat Sajak is actually quite witty off the cuff, he's basically a clean improv comic with a smooth voice that does 10 minutes a night 5 nights a week.

He is so quick, and legit hilarious. It's weird Jim doesn't see that.

Jim's more relaxed on this one than Rogan's pod
You two are the most complementary maestros of clean comedy I could possibly imagine sitting across from one another.👏 I hope I don't diminish the fact you both have unique, strange, organic, universally relatable styles of comedic genius, by referring to it as "clean". Clean comedy that's still hilarious to adult audiences is no simple task. Thank you both for this video.✌️ Greetings from 🇨🇦.
Cinnamon Toast Crunch, fistfuls out of the box, no spoon, no bowl, dry as a bone. Like breakfast potato chips.
Great watching two of my favorite comedians who are both super funny and witty, and don’t use swearing as a crutch. I agree that they both have very diverse audiences because their material is so funny that it appeals to a wide range of people. Anyway, what are they doing at Georgetown University to produce so many great comedians. Both of these guys went to Georgetown and so did John Mulaney. And also Nick Kroll.
Bill Burr had an incredibly funny bit about how Philadelphia has a statue of Rocky, a fictional sports icon, instead of greats like Joe Frasier.
This is great. I want to see Mike Birbiglia on Theo's podcast. Gaffigan was on there and it was great.
Successful comedian kids I will laugh at.
What did Mike say his guilty favorite food was? Salmon dill crunch?
I went to a parent teacher conference once, and asked "Why are there so many kids here?
Remember when Burt Reynolds dumped water in your lap?
Love Love Love Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo!!!
I love Mike's comedy but I don't think I could handle talking to him for an hour without scoffing throughout the conversation.
"Right!?" -Jim Gaffigan
Thank you thank you thank you for your comedy. It’s great and genius and I don’t have to listen to crude nonsense swearing.
I'm from Buffalo to
I don’t know. If Jerry didn’t have his show he’d be a traveling road dog comic playing at 120 seat venues.
I wanted Jim to say the biggest insult he’d received was “You’re Mike Birbigliarent.”
As a old retired fart on a low income, I would send my money to go to a show by either of you! But you never come close to where I live. And I am pretty left and liberal!
Buffalo is a Midwestern city!
As far as put-down humor is concerned, Martin Short gets pretty close to the mastery of Don Rickles. Just saying

Wait, I thought we were the Birbigglebugs?
"It's weird when people are like, so against bigotry, and then they attack it by introducing another form of bigotry."
Mae Martin used to open w “Im not Justin Bieber,” or something like that but then she changed. @mikeb u shuld have her on!
You and Joey bag of donuts wrote jokes about Jeff Bezos 😂
Gabriel almost exclusively wears shorts.
I really love it when comedians/artists of any kind are like, "I mean, nearly all my experiences now have to do with Blank - so what else am I supposed to talk about?" - how about, 'have more varied experiences, and if you can't Don't make myopic art'
Ryan Adams
The double billing just makes it unaffordable
Dyanamyin?
7 minutes in, still trying to figure out who the famous guy on the left is lol. Sorry?
don rickles was the master, but his skills were second to his humanity, and that is why he killed at will. there are roast comics like jeff ross available for making that point.
Snorting weeds out all the anti-snorters who might come to the shows.
Jim's son should be like Galligher2 (Original galligher's brother doing same act...)
How does he not know what a noodge is?!?!?!?!?!?!
🥱
Mike, these random cuts to black with the music? What is that? Is that where you have paid content? If so, I get it but let us know during the cut because I'm just sitting here frustrated I didn't get to hear the next line of that piece of the conversation every time it happens. And if it's not paid content, stop doing that.
41:33 and 41:40 this bothers me a great deal Mr. Gaffigan. I watched your Dark Pale special and noticed it said written and performed by Jim Gaffigan: so that means Jeannie didn't help on it? Honestly, that makes sense, it was good but not your best special ever.
Birbigs...if you spend 90% of your time with your wife and kids, I can only assume the remaining time is spent writing on and pinning up colorful cards.
