A nice detail at the end. When Roman walks off and looks at Cody he’s smiling, but when he turns to walk away, he’s got this mad face on. Because of all the people Roman Reigns can mentally manipulate, Cody wasn’t one of them.

Roman starting off the promo with a “What do you wanna talk about?” was a funny moment. This promo was a gold standard. Barbs thrown at each other and stocks raised. “That little indy show!” Roman doing the Dusty impression and almost schooling Cody. Roman is a good promo and this whole segment worked beautifully with two of “Dusty’s kids.” Cody is working hard to make this version of Cody work in the WWE, and it’s working well. Such good shit, pal! The road to Mania has been great so far.

It’s who you surround your stars with. It’s hard to see a proper wrestling babyface when you’ve been conditioned to see babyfaces as buffoons who don’t take wrestling seriously. When you see someone who does take themselves seriously as Cody, it appears more phoney. Clearly shows the difference between promotions.

To me, Roman is the most real and sincere promo in wrestling today. He simply talks in a way that a normal human being would and it’s great. Cody, Paul, MJF are amazing but it’s very pro wrestling. Roman really has evolved into what WWE always wanted him to be.

Roman continues to show that he doesn’t need Heyman to talk for him. He is constantly improving on the mic and with his character.
I like how Roman left the ring and walked away without turning back around at the top of the ramp. No gesturing, no belt raising, no pointing to the WM banner - just zero further acknowledgement of Cody after Roman cut a very personal promo on him. Ice cold exit after an ice cold promo. Excellent!
I can't believe Jim or Brian didn't say anything about Roman's line that Cody sounded like he had been rehearsing that for a week or so.

I’m a big Cody fan but there was a point when Roman says “You must’ve practiced that all week” Cody has to be careful with that because the window then is left open to notice he does speak in a soliloquy,AEW style, rehearsed tone sometimes. That felt like a lil shade from Roman for Cody once saying he Workshops his promos.

Another fantastic promo from Cody and Roman. The fact they could play off each other so well. Roman's Dusty impression was great. Cody mentioning "That little Indy show" got a huge pop. I love the fact they haven't attacked each other, but you are invested in this feud. They've it feel important because they've used facts and events that happened. Making it about family and who is the son Dusty really wanted. You want to see Cody win, not just to win the title his father never could but to prove Roman wrong, that Cody is very much the son his father would be proud of. The only negative is the scum of the wrestling world is taking the piss out of Roman using the word "groomed' but this has you invested in the match.

It goes to the logic of if you constantly talk down on your opponent leading up to a match and how they aren’t any good yada yada then you shoot yourself in the foot. If your opponent is genuinely no good then what do you gain beating them? You’ve told the audience they’re no good. If you lose to them then obviously you suck because you’ve told the audience they’re no good. But if you instead show your opponent respect and commend their talents leading in then when you’ve won you’ve actually beaten somebody and the audience should care. Or if you lose you’ve lost to somebody who is good and the audience shouldn’t write you off. It’s great how they’re handling that by ensuring both guys recognize the other is a genuine threat so that whoever wins actually benefits from doing so.
The problem in AEW was that he didn't have somebody as good as Roman to work with
@Matt-cr4vv
Жыл бұрын
This story leading in also wouldn’t have worked in AEW. The Dusty’s kids thing and how he saw guys like Roman as what he wished Cody could be and the need to prove himself because of that is a major factor that makes the Dusty involvement work to me. The “I have to win this because my dad never did” thing only goes so far I think but the added context of his dad seeing these other guys as better than Cody and almost saw cody as a disappointment makes it a better story to tell. The added need to win not just to do what his dad didn’t but to also in a way prove to his doubters, even his dad evidently, that he was that guy all along adds a lot. The AEW fanbase also didn’t have the attachment to dusty that WWE does so it all plays in to why this works so much more here than it could there

I think one of the biggest differences to me in regards to Cody’s presentation in WWE vs AEW is that in WWE he’s by himself. That always came off as strange to me in AEW where he always had at least Arn by his side, but sometimes others too. Never felt like a babyface in most scenarios as a result of that I think. In WWE he’s coming off a lot stronger. Doesn’t hurt that he can challenge for the world title there as well…

A pictorial salute to F Troop.

The main difference between AEW Cody and WWE Cody is he finally has people of main event status with the skills to actually match Cody or surpass him. There was no one else in AEW on the presentation level of Seth, Roman, Heyman, the Usos, Sami, etc.
I caught this promo on a SD replay after the WBC finals…I was a little stoned and it was riveting!!

Great segment. Roman on the mic is just magnificent. He's so cool and always has the best lines. Cody's good, too, but he does come across too much as a politician. They're crazy as hell to take the strap off of Roman especially to give it to Cody.
Cody has very purple prose and his promos always run the risk of getting pretentious or contrived and it was frequently getting where it sounded like someone trying to write overly intelligent comic book dialog, but he stuck the landing and the whole segment is great so that feeling never lingers. I cant decide if there's gonna be a point where it just never sounds honest or if it's just going be accepted that this is the weird way Cody speaks but so far so good. To me the angle isn't nearly as hot as Sami but it doesn't need to be. He feels right to be "The Guy"
When Roman was talking about Dusty, it felt less like Roman Reigns the persona and more like Joe Anoa'i the man. Letting that side come through made this promo that much better

Yeah, this is my only issue with the storyline so far. Cody's rise from dashing to Stardust, to rival company EVP, to the main event of mania needs to start becoming more core to the essence of all of this. As it's a powerful story, and feeds his 'undesirable to undeniable' theme. Appreciate Dusty, but don't put him at the forefront of everything with Cody, as it detracts from Cody's own achievements.
Roman was so good in this segment but Cody held his own, I can not wait for this match!!!
