However, what can't be explained is how, in my own personal life, I should've bit the dust on 5 separate occasions, and yet here I am. And let me be clear: I'm not talking about kinda, sorta, no I'm talking about VERY close to death. You cannot explain that away with "coincidence." Coincidence is something that happens once, maybe twice.

    There's a psychological theory by Melvin Lerner that kinda dealt with this called the "Just World Hypothesis." He stated that people have to believe people get what they deserve, good or bad. Otherwise, they don't have a sense of safety and control in their lives. It's the same thing with religion. People have to be able to believe that, if they do good, they will get rewarded. They also need to believe that those who don't do good things will be punished. If they don't have that, they don't feel safe and they feel like they're making their own mistakes rather than the shitty situations being "part of God's will." That's why I don't follow religion anymore. I don't need to close my eyes and thank an invisible dude for my fuck-ups. I can just say "damn, I fucked up. Oh well, time to fix it" and move on like a reasonable person 🤷

    You know why most people don't do this? Because taking responsibility for yourself is not popular anymore. These a-holes don't want the vaccine, but they definitely want to take up a Hospital bed. Very weak. Don't take the vaccine, then at least you should stay at home and pray to Jesus to make you breathe.

    Yup. Too many people can't cope with the fundamental reality of the world... Nothing is fair, we are not safe, and we will not necessarily be "rewarded" or "punished" based on "earthly acts"... so they over compensate. Seriously, I see religion as a mental health disorder. It's sad.

    +The Dude How is that a False Dichotomy?... Do you even know what a False Dichotomy is? A false dichotomy is when someone sets up a A false dilemma in which something is falsely claimed to be an "either/or" situation, when in fact there is at least one additional option. All Radio Raven did was say it would be nice if we focused on Science and Exploration, He didn't present an alternative or frame the point as a 'what if' situation. Secondly there is a direct resistance from conservaties in health science and technological and scientific spending. A lack of spending that is supported by extreme right wing religious Christians. This same denial of Science and scientific study also traditionally comes from the same group.... Thats not a false dichotomy, Its a statement of fact........

  • @thedude4672

    @thedude4672

    6 жыл бұрын

    +larsonirdesco Look at you being coy. The false dichotomy is implied in Radio's comment given the context of what this video is talking about, as if people can't focus on health science, space exploration, and religious beliefs. Humans are not forced to make an either/or choice here. We can chew bubble gum and walk at the same time. We can engage in religious activities, our health, and space exploration without there being any need to choose one over the other. There are, unfortunately, nutjobs on the right who deny reality and try to hinder science, but they aren't the norm.

  • @lardonirdesco

    +The Dude Because a society that focuses on religious belief is a regressive society. I can point to countless countries where a theocratic soceity exists where religion is pushed by the state and they are non productive as far as GDP and happines. As well as being largely nonproductive as a major world power.... Find me a country with a Theorcratic regieme that is a major world power? Is it any wonder that the counties with the highest happiness scales within their population are also the highest in terms of Atheism?... There is a direct corralation in the facts on that one........ A productive society is one that is moviing forward and making advancements in science and liberties as well as with ourselves and personal lives.... These are not something religion can demonstrably assist with so by what basis can we claim or even pretend to believe that it should have a place in society.

An intelligent society leans more on the sciences as opposed to faith... Again look at the countries with the highest education stats and compare that to Atheism figures... The numbers don't lie..

    It's not a question of gods, it's a question of men. God's existence isn't important, what men say about a god is. The sun is hot and will stay hot whether you believe it's cold or not. It doesn't care if you worship it, or about how often you touch yourself, or whether you pick food out of your teeth during a fast, or the concept of fasting at all. The Earth, which is several times less than than the sun really doesn't give a shit whether or not anything is walking around on its surface, swimming around in its waters or crawling around underneath. It's still going to rotate, it's still going to orbit the sun, the plate tectonics are still going to shift, life itself will likely continue whether we are around or not and the Earth will be just fine without life as we know it existing anywhere. Within a billion years practically every mark we made on the planet will no longer be visible, a time frame that for us, who've only existed 300 million, whose current civilization has only six thousand, might as well be infinite but for the planet is just a skip and a jump. How much less would a god, much less an all present, all knowing, all powerful god give a damn? If god is all knowing, all powerful and all present, then chances are god's happy with the way things are. If any such god was unhappy the source of unhappiness would be changed quickly. If it wanted to tell us something (and really why would it? It by definition would have no need to), it'd tell us, it'd be impossible not to know what it wanted if we were "meant" to know. There are some ideas of god that kind of make sense. The idea that in this incomprehensibly vast universe an equally vast god said "you, on this unremarkable strip of land, go murder those people on that other unremarkable strip of land on this gigantic planet with a lot more worthwhile unoccupied land that is itself a literal damp pebble in a collection of a hundred billion star systems orbiting another hundred billion star systems", is not one of those ideas. Evangelism, conversion, proselytizing, these are all really innefficient ways for a god, especially an all powerful one, to spread messages. Unfortunately they're great for men to spread messages. And throw in some claims of magic, of supernatural, and watch the listener's critical thinking turn off. Tell people mass murder is for the benefit of nature, science, the human race itself, you will be fought every step of the way. That, more than economics, was why communism largely failed. It relied on humans, humans who can be questioned, humans who are flawed, humans who can make mistakes. But religion deflects criticism with gods, to the point people forget gods never said any of these things other humans are telling them. God didn't write The Bible or The Sunnah, men did.

    +Right Elmo Did you not read what I said? The Bible is not a primitive science or objective history. Like most mythology, scripture is the personal accounts of a culture and it reflects that people's psychological viewpoints that they have about themselves and their place in the world. You could say that the Bible is composed of various expressions of how Hebrew & Hebrew/Greek people understood their place in the world, particularly vis-a-vis God, or the Holy. That's its significance. The Bible isn't one book. It is a collection of manuscripts, many of which started out as oral transmissions (because paper was hard to come by before modern times), which then gradually became written and rewritten countless times by countless people over hundreds of years.

When someone says that, "Jesus made me do it!" or, "The devil made me do it!" do you just straight up believe them? I don't. I reply, "No, you and your depraved ideas made you do it."

    I have 2 theories about religion: Power and ignorance. Now at the time, the people didn't have the knowledge we do now. So say a couple of cities are destroyed, natural disaster. You get Soddom and Gomorrah(pardon the spelling) people wanting to exert their will and beliefs, combined with a pretty good imagination and a population that doesn't know any better and you get "god's wrath" Blind leading the blind, trying to explain to a population that just didn't know how the world worked. theory 2: The ancient astronaut: It would be ridiculous to look up in the sky at the stars and think that we're the only star with planets that have life on it. Nor that other planets didn't develop long before man came to be. So you get a bunch of people coming from another star system, advanced technology, they would be taken as gods. And perhaps they also put some of their culture and beliefs onto humans as well. The virgin birth, think about it. Just because we don't have the technology for manned flight to a star system 100's of lightyears away, doesn't mean others don't. And like I said, it's dumb to think we're the only solar system that has planets with life on them.

    I feel that it could be possible that there is a “supreme being” or god/omnipotent being, but to claim that this being is present in the way that many of these major religions claim, especially with the evidence available nowadays, doesn’t make sense to me personally. I like Cornette saying that people can have their own beliefs as long as they don’t effect others, as I would consider myself a believer in some type of omnipotent being. I feel like people who find their faith or spiritual beliefs through things like psychedelic experiences, near death experiences, abstract/contemplative thought, meditation, etc, tend to have a far more open, refreshing, and loving view of all other groups of people. Just my thoughts on it though

    My late nana was a heavily religious woman, and one day we were on a road trip to see my sister. We were cruising down the highway doing around 100kmh, and i felt a vibration/wobble in the back of my car (I'm pretty switched on when it comes to cars) so i dropped the anchors pretty quick, and got out to check the car. Some douche had loosened the wheel nuts on one of the wheels, and it broke 3 of the 5 studs. She said that was an act of god we didn't crash 😂 i said no, it was an act of some douche messing with my car and me being alert enough we didn't add 3 people to the road toll. I said to her another 10 seconds, the other 2 studs would've broke, and we probably would've added 3 people (pending we didn't hit another car) to the road toll, if that was all an act of god, god is a prick for pulling a move like that lol.

Then the collection was rebuilt to a certain extent and partially destroyed again by Aurelian (not purposely) in the 3rd century. This was before Christianity became the power base of Roman emperors. Then Muslims supposedly finished it off in the 7th century. It was a combination of things. None of them Christian.
