    The 2nd Amendment to me comes down to three very key words in there: "well regulated militia" .. some states have open carry and you can literally walk into a restaurant and have people sitting down at the next table over with AR15s. Some people will say that is the safest place to eat, I personally would rather not sit down next to that. It all comes down to what each person thinks is well regulated. I believe we should all carry but I don't believe we need to be walking the streets with war type guns.

    The big issue people might have here is that Jim is *almost* sounds like he comes from a well-informed place about the gun problem, but his politics drive most of his views here, not a more well-informed place of knowledge. To those who only know about violence from the news - to them only "Gun nuts" drive gun violence, but you only hear about big mass murders, despite there being hundreds of mass shootings per year. Media perception colors the viewpoint, making rifles the big scary monster that needs to be regulated, when it's handguns like Jim's revolver shooting and killing people 500% of the time.

  • @Makainternational

    As a Brit, the gun law in the U.S. is nuts. I mean if look at it from a risk management perspective, when something goes wrong, steps are taken to reduce the unwanted event from happening again. Safety measures are put in place and that is being responsible. How many shootings in schools, concerts, night clubs etc will it take to realise that not everyone should own a gun! I mean really I am flabbergasted! Taking people’s guns away is not impinging on their freedom and rights, it’s just being responsible. Anyway, I am glad I live on this side of the pond.

    I bet Australia and Canada wished they had a 2nd Amendment this last year. Gun laws, as a deterrent, are ineffective, but the real distinction is that they are all unconstitutional, unlike other statutes. And yes, more guns is the solution. Every year, without any reasonable mention, guns prevent 1000s of crimes. But that's not newsworthy or "sexy. " Sadly, some people will always abuse their freedom and harm others, regardless of what laws are on the books. Far more people are murdered by other means (bludgeoning, stabbing, strangulation etc) that are not spectacular "mass-killings", so no one cares. Perception is a very big factor in shaping our reality. I guarantee that when a criminal or a tyrannical government wants your property or life, you will wish you had a gun.

    Actually, they weren't even illegal to own then. The ONLY thing the AWB did was to halt production of guns with specific cosmetic features. Anyone who already owned those guns prior to the AWB was allowed to keep them. The AWB didn't take a single weapon out of existing circulation. Not one.

  • @JS-lo8hr

    @JS-lo8hr

    Daniel Reid so, if you didn't own one before the ban, they were illegal to own. And these "cosmetic" features you speak of, like long barrels and auto action uppers are what allow you to shoot 500 people in 10 min. Not to mention the ban on magazine capacity that went out the window. But continue to call features that up body counts cosmetic. It doesnt make me look like an assholes.

  • @danielreid3476

    @danielreid3476

    6 жыл бұрын

    No. They were perfectly legal to own prior to the ban. And you could still buy whatever was on the list that was still in circulation during the ban. All the ban did was to stop production and importation of certain weapons. You still buy whatever was already out there. AR-15s, and the like, were in circulation long before the AWB was passed. And read this carefully...if you owned an AR-15 or any other weapon that fell under the AWB umbrella, you were allowed to keep them. Possession and sale of existing high capacity magazines during the AWB was still legal as well. And you could still buy all of those guns that were currently in circulation. Again, the AWB did absolutely nothing except to give Charles Schumer and Dianne Feinstein camera time. Magazine capacity arguments are a joke. Is someone with a 10rd magazine somehow magically 50% less dangerous than someone with a 20rd magazine? No, of course not. Anybody with a minimum of practice can do a mag change and a reload in a second or less. The capacity argument itself is an insult to everybody's intelligence. What the anti-gunners ultimately want is a complete ban on all semi-automatics, be it pistol or rifle. The capacity restriction argument is just a means to that end under the guise of "safety". In any event, have a nice day.

Guns they misused which were more often than not purchased illegally.

While his heart may be in the right place, his overwhelming ignorance of the subject material and his refusal to acknowledge the possibility that any argument besides his own could be correct presents a serious problem.

    If guns were a new invention, trying to ban them/gun control would actually make sense. However, theres hundreds of millions of them just in the US. The criminals wont get rid of them, and they would continue to be smuggled in from other countries. I suggest people watch a documentary on the LA riots, it might change your mind on gun control.
