He was a legit piece of shit. Your anecdotal evidence doesn't mean anything, and it's absurd that you're using "he was nice to his fans!!" and "everyone has problems!!" to absolve him of his frankly insane and wildly abusive relationship with his partner. Him punching Hogan in this story reflects poorly on him, too. If a woman runs away from her partner and goes somewhere to hide, only a lowlife would blow her cover.

I once saw Randy (or, if it wasn't him, it was his clone) passing by in the Atlanta airport in '99: we were waiting to board our plane (we were coming back from vacation in Hawaii, and this was our 3rd and final plane transfer), and I saw him walk by. He had a bandanna on top of his head, and was walking with a hot blonde (Gorgeous George maybe?). I was tempted to run up to him and ask for an autograph or something, but I figured, "no, just let the guy alone. He's on his personal time, and he's probably mobbed by fans constantly. Let him have his peace". So I said and did nothing, and he quickly passed by and was gone. I figured, since it was in Atlanta, maybe he had been to the WCW office. In any case, I was actually happier that I DIDN'T interrupt him and let him enjoy his privacy.

He did great business for himself at a time where there were no guaranteed contracts and promoters would screw wrestlers out of their money . Savage replies "I don't know", then for absolutely no reason pertaining to kayfabe Macho then says "I'll tell you one thing, Hulk Hogan had a bad day already too!" Randy was going nowhere before going against Hogan. Hogan provided the platform for Randy to succeed. What drawing or merc did Randy do compared to Hogan, not even a quarter of the business Hogan did. When Hogan clothesline the Giant and Andre falls the entire place erupts until the finale

Every story I have ever heard about Savage, is he was the most polite, took time for all fans (within reason), and was exceptionally professional (coming from directors/writers who used him for voice over). He always wanted to give people what they paid for, the director a perfect take, and the fans a memory. Yes, if you went up and trolled him with stupid shit, he would snap on you. When it came to Elizabeth, he was a psycho. I think we all have something like that we are obsessed with. His was a person, it was healthy through the 80s and mid 90s, but he did reconcile it before they both passed. He deserved so much more from wrestling. Even thou he didn’t get it, he made sure to give what he thought we deserved.

In 1979 Savage was the "big heel" in ICW, owned by his dad, and Lanny was the champ. Watched the show at our local high school in Southern Illinois. We got there fairly early for some reason and all of the wrestlers were hanging around out back. We ended up playing touch football with the guys and ALL of them, including the Poffo Brothers (who did not acknowledge each other) were very cool to a bunch of 12 year old kids. Good guys to us that day. We were starstruck.

He loses with a roll up which is only a little better victory than CO, Jacques escapes to the back in a bad condition & Hogan stays in ring with perfect health with all the eyes are on him. If he wanted to put Jacques over, then he should have left the ring first. How many times did Austin etc. lose a match & then chase the victors from the ring, so that he would look like a winner? Usually the one stays in the ring is the one who won the match or in wrestling the one who isn't afraid of the other guy attacking. That is a typical babyface "almost beats the bad guy, but not quite, but watch him clear the house & remember to buy another ticket, I'm sure next time the heels won't be that lucky" moment. Hogan did 90% of the offense in the match & then chickenshit heel escapes with a cheap victory, not that good of a job imo.

I was lucky enough to see Macho Man in person once. Way back in 2001 at a video game tournament. The guy was larger than life man. He was walking around by himself and he had like an orbit of respect/fear around him. Nobody came within two feet. I saw him every so often after I got eliminated. I ended up leaving early. Had a tough time dealing with crowds and I just needed to get out of there. Wish I had stayed, maybe tried to shake his hand or take a picture or something.

Hogan was the top babyface in the 80s that vince was completely relying on in getting the vision where he wanted his company to go and to accomplish. He basically went "All in" with Hogan as the the babyface. So of COURSE Macho the heel is not going to go over Hogan. Jake the Snake: You don't go against the golden goose. Then in the 90's the reason why heel Hogan went over Macho is due to the fact...you guessed it, at that point in time, it was the "heel" dynamic/tweener dynamic that was what was in, and as we all know, as the heel in WCW, Hogan was the Golden Goose for WCW. So...of COURSE Hogan was going to go over Savage. Could Savage have held the title longer? Sure. Blame the bookers.

Then...go into more detail when they actually did build someone that could/did rival/eclipse Hogan's popularity---Warrior. Then look at how business was when Warrior became the champ and focal point while Hogan started to do a lesser schedule in order to try to do things outside WWF. Warrior wasn't doing business as well as Hogan did. Which of course led to the course of Vince having Warrior lose the title and face Savage and having Hogan face the champ Sgt. Slaughter to become champ once again. And...in even MORE detail. Warrior and Savage face off in a retirement match where Savage as well started to have more of a lighter schedule and become more of a color commentator. So yea...didn't make sense for Savage to go over Hogan at that particular time.

This is exactly what fans do that they don't realize. Since you like Savage better you'll discredit Hulk's success and blame Savage not drawing as much on booking. Someone who likes Hulk better will just say Macho couldn't draw as well. Drawing power isn't something fans should speak on too much especially since wrestling fans tend to like or dislike wrestlers regardless of success rate. Macho absolutely was better in ring and at worst a more entertaining talker but Hogan was over for a longer time. I was too young to see his prime but him vs Rock at Mania was a sight to see so I can imagine how his pops were back in 80s/90s. He also shows why you need casual fans. His 10(at most) moves in a match got much bigger pops than the 10 finish moves most modern day wrestlers have to do. Everyone is Dave Meltzer these days.
