I think that Network hit it on the head. We are not only going through TV land, but now all this social media crap. There’s a lot of spineless people out there who will say anything just to get attention weather it’s true or not. People need to remember common Sense. Words are truly powerful.

Jim has faults like the rest of us, but he truly is a bright spirit. If I could ever meet the man, I'd simply shake his hand and say, "Thank you for helping me get through, your films have given me so much joy in very dark times." Don't forget Tom Shadyac either, who directed the original Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, and Bruce Almighty. They've been a powerful team. Thanks for your comment!

One unfortunate reality that this review fails to correlate with the life of Jim Carrey.... both his life and the lives in NETWORK are hinting at white society having intertwined relationships with black people. Where the film bluntly portrays black revolutionaries fed up with media's ignorance of their struggles with white owned companies and corporations, Jim Carrey actually makes a point of connecting his career trajectory with black society. It's not that much of a stretch. Growing up in Canada and heading to California in his early 20's, Jim struggled to make ends meet and make it in the comedy circuit. He even worked odd jobs at Mitzy Shore's COMEDY STORE. Then came that faithful day when Mr. Carrey struck up a friendship with a fellow comedian in the late 80's trying to make it, as well. Turned out his brother was able to convince TV network executives to help him start a sketch comedy show to rival SNL. The show? IN LIVING COLOR. The friend who helped Jim Carrey start his rise to fame? Damon Wayans. Creepy how television and black culture both had a hand in shaping both Carrey's favorite film AND his own life...😎🇵🇷🇺🇸📽🗽🦂

The media, etc. And most of the people who say they like Network got their world view from the very Media the movie pokes at! Most people, when you analyze what they call for, are calling for actions which support the corporations and the two parties. They have no understanding of the rights of man and individualism. That's why the famous person circle jerk where opinions come from is such an echo chamber! When they have people like ME on they will find some challenging content to be sure!

"Network" (1976) is Paddy Chayefsky's Magnum Opus., although I do enjoy "Altered States" (1980) as well. I first saw "Network" in a cinema in Western Australia in late 1976. I went with some friends to see "Two Minute Warning" with Charlton Heston but waited for a fresh batch of popcorn & then walked into the wrong cinema. I was a genius+ IQ 13 year at the time. I found the perfect seat & forgot about my friends. I soon realized I was in the wrong cinema but once the narration started, I was hooked. My favourite sci-fi film is "Forbidden Planet" so narration hooks me well. I was amazed... "Network" is still my #1 favourite film today & I know IT verbatim. My #2 is "Altered States" which I equated in 'real life' many years ago, without the nonsensical 'evolutionary crap'. The book IS much better! As for this video, Jim Carrey has at least Prostate cancer & a couple of other cancers to fight. Look at his 'sunset' aspect of his pupils & irises. He will be gone before 2025. I will NOT miss him & his mostly awful films.

Though film is a visual medium, I wouldn't want these monologues shortened. Is it ham handed in that not enough was changed, or too much was and not in a way you'd prefer? I'm unsure how a filmmaker could adapt these monologues in a visual sense anyway, at least in a way that would stay genuine to the source material. I've never seen the play, but I'm curious if you've compared the two and can shine any light on how the film adaptation specifically suffers? Thanks for your comment!

@@tedmichaels I have never seen the stage play. I am just speaking of the film which totally lacks any sort of cinematic flavor. Paddy Chayefsky simply just wanted to get his message across without considering weither or not it works on film. Telling instead of showing. A far more effective film that basically tackles the same subject matter that was made nearly twenty years earlier is called A Face in The Crowd. That 1957 Elia Kazan film could be heavy handed at times but it ends up being a far more satisfying narrative instead of humorless, overwrought satire of Network.

@@ricardocantoral7672 I very much disagree that Network has zero cinematic flavor, but I do agree that even my analysis leans away from visual aesthetics and discusses concepts surrounding media more than how this specific media presents these ideas effectively with visual storytelling.
