It’s kind of haunting at the end when he’s talking and everyone is laughing. He’s got a smile on his face but what he’s saying is dead serious. It’s what it feels like in real life when you realize these things and yet the people around you want you to continue playing the role.

I had the same sense. But on another unrelated video I heard someone (a performer) explain that during award broadcasts like this everyone just puts up smiles and laughs because it's the vibe these events try to portray, even if they don't get the jokes. Gotta keep up appearances as public figures.

Jim's self-awareness is so inspiring. So many current and past celebrities get stuck in Hollywood-esque crap...Jim Carrey seems so grounded. Believe me, I know he has had his not so great moments, and he has gone through many trials and tribulations and at the end of the day, he has a real soul. I respect him both as a outstanding comedy performer but also as a person.

That whoop from one in the audience after Jim said “many of us choose our path out of fear disguised as practicality” was perfect. Jim’s statement stopped me in my tracks with its profound truth.

Many, many times I've watched videos of Jim Carrey give this speech, and each time I've cried my eyes out. I can't watch it right now as I'm at work, so sobbing like a baby isn't a good look in the office 😄 But I love this speech and he says everything you ever need to know in your life to go forward and be a happy, successful person. Love him so much. He is an absolute gift to the world in more ways than one.

The last segment of this video literally made me cry. Actually sob. "...and I could stop this terrible search"

There’s so much out there, I just had to discover myself. If you fail, keep going. You will eventually succeed or you will discover something new that was meant for you. The first steps are desiring change, trying & then to keep trying. Be a good person in your heart through it all.
