this is so true! since I decided to stand up, speak up, demand respect and be heard at work, trying to follow my dream and stopping bullying at same time I noticed a lot of enemies and opposition than when I just was trying to be accepted by others and get on pleasing everyone but me . I was invisible,yes. I am more visible now. I am still standing alone tho. I rather pick myself up believing there is an end to this than let them trying to keep me in the box they want.

Enlightened! The joy&love in his eyes is benevolent...and not in need of validation. It's his gift. He's enjoying all of it without a moment of egotistical nervousness. The light passes through him out to us all. This is a profound speech masquerading as something simple. And yet...it IS simple! Lovely lovely human being. I'm grateful to have discovered this video.

I saw this speech just before I was about to not apply for a space tech high school. I wanted to go there but was terrified of leaving my parents, friends and home town and moving about 1000 miles away from home. Not to mention that I was certain I was going to be the dumbest pupil at that school if I did get in. Then I heard this speech and realised that at least I had to try, so I applied. Now about 6 years later I think that's the best decision I've made so far in my life, and I would have missed it all if it wasn't for what Jim Carrey says in this video. Incredibly thankful i heard this!

"Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world" -- This still hits me till this day, even after watching this speech for like 10 times whenever I feel low or off track. I used to think that acceptance is all you need when I was a child, probably upto college. I found this video around my 2nd year, and it changed me in such ways I can't explain. This is to the guy, whom I have never met and only watched in screens, thank you Jim! He inspires youth to be conscious, which is rare from an actor of his scale.

This speech will go in history as one of the greatest motivational speech of all times. Till, mankind lives on this planet, this speech shall remain immortal. Very powerful, deeply resonated!

Everyone can be a person like him. You just have to let go of the fear. The fear of people's opinions, the fear of failure before even trying and the fear of never being enough. You are you and that's everything you need. Ever thought you would never get a work done but kept saying 'keep cool, it not impossible' and got it done? That's how easy your thoughts can effect your view on every situation in life, how difficult it may seem. It's so easy like it is not. We all fear leaving old habits behind because of the unknown, but if we stopped trying to walk over and over again as a child, we would still be there sitting on the floor, being angry at every walking person passing. Today it is difficult to seperate faith from religion but it's worth the try :) Edit: In the end it's not important to be like him or like anyone. Just be you ;)

@@emmajames5672 it looks like he was given an honorary degree from an Indian university. Honorary degrees are awarded to famous people, so the university can list them as alumnae (graduates.) The famous person is not required to have attended the lectures, because he/she is further ahead in the field of the degree than actual graduates and likely too famous to mix with the masses on a course plus no time as they work. The famous person is contacted towards the end of the course to see if they will « accept » the degree. So this is Jim C’s acceptance speech.

Yes, take a look at TM (dot) org . TM is easy to learn and practice. Can't be learned online or from a book--have to learn from a certified teacher at a TM Center. There is a course fee, but it is anon-profit organization and they try to make it available for all regardless of income. There are hundreds of scientific studies showing dramatic benefits. Also, take a look at David Lynch Foundation website. They are doing fabulous work teaching TM to kids in at-risk situations, Vets with PTSD, abused women and children, people with addictions, etc.

Jim Carrey and Conan O'Brien are living proofs of why most people will tell you that comedians are some of the smartest people in the world. This speech is a perfect example of effective communication on many different levels. Thank you so much for uploading this video. It benefited not only your graduates but other people across the world who seriously need words of encouragement and inspiration at this point in their lives. Michael Muryn Comedians in general, I think, are smart. But I don't mean to make a comparison between comedic and dramatic actors. I think they each have their strengths and weaknesses. I do prefer, however, listening to the words of comedians because they strike me as people who always see the world in a different light. I can almost put them in the same league as the poets and philosophers. George Carlin, Louis C.K., and Woody Allen are some of the best examples that come to mind. Their thoughts are deep but they express it so cleverly that you're gonna laugh until the ideas behind them make you think, or sometimes, it's the other way around.

I think the best commedians, are the ones with real life tought expiriences, and things went wrong, so they can relate to many other people and sad realities of life.

Man there is so much more to him than the comedian he had to portray for so long. He was pouring his heart out and sharing so much value to these people and all of us while still keeping up with the smoke and mirrors expected of him. Very intelligent man and great value in this video.

I'm also 31. I currently have an excellent high paying professional job that I love. I got to it through a huge leap of faith and by working hard in the same industry+grad school. I'm currently engaged in another leap of faith that's important to me, and it too is going well. I know many younger people don't fully grasp the potential of a positive mental attitude combined with hard work to get what you want in life. To them it sounds something like "be sure to realign your chi to hack the matrix!"... but if you truly have faith and a vision, you will get to where you want to be.

Incredibly profound....I have lived in fear my whole life and now that I am in my last quarter, I find I am filled with regret. Even though I've always believed 'love is stronger than fear', after watching this, I realize that I haven't practiced it. I think this is critical advice to our young people and I for one am taking it, from this moment forward. Bless you, Mr. Carrey and enjoy the journey and the freedom from the ego!

Quite true. It reminded me of the poem from Hafez, the Iranian poet: "For years and years I was looking for the magic crystall ball. Now I realize that I always had it in my heart". I love this poem and hearing the same truth from Jim Carry...wow.

This is the most profound and inspiring commencement speech I've ever heard. May God continue to bless you, Jim Carrey, for the fun and laughter you bring to people through your films, as well as for the wisdom that you have shared.

Anyone that's says Jim Carrey is crazy is crazy. I consider myself a Chrisian at my core and this speech nearly brought me to tears a few times. Brilliant words from a brilliant mind. I didn't realize how 'present ' Mr. Carrey is. I would be proud to have him address any group. Wisdom comes in many forms.

I really wish these speeches were given to kids entering high school. College graduates are locked in, they've completed their degrees. High school students have the time to think about it and plan accordingly.

When Jim Carrey revealed that painting, I broke down in tears. It took that for me to realize that I am not this shell, but an ineffable life force running through everything. So often I say to myself, "I am depressed", "I am lost." If only I knew how powerful these words can be, that I can fool myself into thinking that I really am these things. I have realized this stuff over and over with no real change, so much that I don't know where to begin anymore. But I'm always beginning. All I have is what I have now, and it's a lot.

Never really been a massive fan of Jim Carey but that speech has just changed my perception of him. Very deep, very profound, very powerful. As an ex British soldier I've heard some truly awe inspiring speeches from some truly awe inspiring leaders and I'd put this up there with them!

I know this is 2 years old...but "Conservative Christians" hate Jim Carey...they call him possessed by Satan. That's who would give a thumbs down. Sad!

I graduated today with a Bachelor of Arts degree.Thank you to God 😇🙏I've been watching this video from 4 years ago and it hasn't been an easy journey, I'm thankful for never giving up but having perseverance and faith in myself.Good things do happen and everyone Is limitless.

The man is clearly a comic genius; but even more important, he is a genius in his consciousness as a human being, an enlightened spirit, a man with a heart for the human race and this planet that we call home. Who'd have thought that in addition to keeping us in stitches for decades, he would turn out to be such a beautiful sage at a time when we really need to be listening to him. Learn through laughter, because nothing is really all that serious here in this life we call our own. Lighten up, people. It's important to raise our vibration through any method available. Humor is one of them.

it was this speech from Jim that makes me take a chance to pursuit my dream..which is make money from playing video games, some might say its a cliche dream, but a dream nonetheless to me, since i enjoy video game.. why shouldn't i try to turn passion into profit.. a dream that was plant in me since boyhood and continues to haunt me till now and i think it will continue to haunt me till the day i die if i don't do something about it.. so for the first time in my life, i'm taking a chance at something.. "you could fail at what you don't want, you might as well take a chance and do what you love" right Jim?

Jim Carrey for President! dropped out of school in 8th grade(9th?) and is wiser and more intelligent than 90% of masters graduates. this speech was a wonder to behold. humorous, heartfelt, passionate and thoughtful. notice he had no speech written. no bullet points. no outline. he felt, and meant every word. a master of the spoken word. a true oracle of life. though he has spent decades making us laugh, he has also proven he can touch our souls with his wisdom. anyone that downvotes this video has only proven to themselves that they have no soul. this oration WAS a work of art and a pleasure to watch. bless you Jim Carrey! you have shown us the best of yourself, and it is more than enough.

Jim clearly experiences life further than most ppl can. He sees so far outside the box that ppl call him crazy but he makes perfect sense... His speech really hits home for me. There is so much out here for us as humans to experience. To not get stuck in a rut in this life. He saying, to keep moving towards what you love. Even if it seems like its out of reach for you. Keep trying. Push forward. You can effect so many others. In an amazing way. There is so much more to life than work and bills.

This speech is so more profound than what it looks like, I really like how he transfers information. The funny and ironic thing about this not everybody understands what's he's referring to and just found the whole video "funny" when in reality he's trying to glitch your mind. You are correct. Unless you have experienced what he is pointing to you cannot really get it. This speech is really phenomenal regardless of the watcher though. He is creating in you, laughter, joy, sadness, silence, awareness, space, bliss. Miraculous really.

I have to admit that I was getting frustrated buy the people laughing but there were moments in this speech that I think hit home for everyone in that room. At first people were just expecting comedy and politely laughing. Once they actually started listening the whole room was inspired.

All my 18 years of education didnt teach me what i learned form this 26 mins of great speech

Watching this for the first time in 2016, I’ve been returning to it a few times a year since. There’s a reason why it was so life altering for so many of us.

I am glad that I stumbled upon this video.

The most completed person in the world...He is the only one on earth that gives that positivity and that mood to create our avatar possessed with inspiration to break any obstacle...We must impact it to our source of inner selves.

Honestly this speech made me cry because I myself realize that fear has ruled most of my life and stopped me from truly living. I'm going to be 30 and I have no job and live with my parents I feel and perceive my existence as being nothing more then trash and it because of that I developed a extreme fear against life itself. I really want to go to college and chase after my dream to try and become something I thought was impossible. I want to have faith that something bigger exist out there and that even if I have a tiny role, a role does exist for me. This speech was such an enlightenment to me personally because I really feel that if I just take that 1st step that 1 leap of faith whole new possibilities are waiting for me. I don't want to be a coward who scared to live I want to live to just finally be able to feel. Thank god I found this video, I really want to try not being afraid for once in my life.

That’s why he says that better to have that reset button, to be able to move forward at 20, 30 and 60. Doesn’t matter, coz it’s never enough. You can have a great career of acrobat all your life, then lose a leg and move to parents again. Life is divine in all shapes.

Letting the universe know what you want while working toward it and letting go how it comes to pass This is the statement that hit me the most.

I would literally do anything just to have the opportunity to sit down across from this man and just listen to him speak
