    I discovered this by accident flipping and pitching jig's along the weed line at a local lake I'm fishing. I've only caught one other one in my life and I sight fished it, I thought it was a Largemouth just cruising at a reservoir but that was one a brush hog. I watch Alex all the time but now I know there's smallmouth close to home I'm going to binge watch your videos in hopes of some cool stuff lol

    The Smallmouth Experience Oh I see. I only target smallies a few times a year but I use both. I find they like the rage bug and the baby brush hog rigged by itself a lot of times.

    I was going to actually message you about jigs lol. They where on a jerkbait bote over the weekend but I seen them in the middle of the water column more . Yesterday I was getting bit on the jerkbait but not nearly as much . I tried a shakyhead with a zoom speedcraw as the bait ans nothing . Went to a plain TRig strike king rodent wich is their beaver bait and they where slamming it . I love their Green Pumpkin purple and gold color . I did drop down to a 3# hook and I was pinning through the top of the mouth every time . I did try to throw a jig after to see if I could pick up a few extra bites and nothing . It crossed my mind that a jig may not be the best bait for small mouth due to s bigger profile but this cleared that up to that thinking being rubbish lol. Hope all is well and looking forward to tommorows vid .

    Yessssirr! I think in your particular situation, it's a matter of mid-column baits. When they're smashing a jerkbait and that bite slows, try something else mid column like a small paddletail swimbait, crankbait, fluke, etc. and then go to something on the bottom like a jig, ned rig, tube from there! I hope you're doing well dude!

    Sweet. So you crank your drag down all the way. Just reel reel reel and play them with the rod? Keep em moving and flip em or net em quick? Glad to see your wearing that life jacket at all times up here, too😉

    Yessir - they still obviously fight, but when I hit them with a jig, my goal is to give them zero chance to thrash around and throw that jig on 20lb. I just hit them and move them to the boat as quick as possible! Yessir - Life Jacket 100% of the time

    I love them so much. It took a bit to get used to the full vest style, but there is zero pull on your shoulders and super comfy....ps, sounds trivial, but if you get a pair, they have a double reverse zipper and then a small velcro patch so you don't have to unzip all the way and pull them down. Sounds dumb, but such a nice feature that took me 8 months to realize lol

    I know youve talked about the spawn and everything but whats some tips for the spawn in rivers i live in pa and i have the susquehanna right in my back yard just wondering where they go and everything

  • @brnowak_fishing

    @brnowak_fishing

    The hardest part about rivers is just locating them. I'm a big believer that they spawn in deeper water in river systems. The obvious beds/spawners will be in slack water/slough areas, but I think the bigger fish tend to spawn on the first drop behind some current breaks and that people catch far more spawning bass than they realize

    I'll throw those under super high pressure (sunny, flat calm, really tough bite) situations. They're great when the fish are on a ned rig or slow moving bottom bait

    No sir - water temps up here are around 45-51*. Smallies will spawn a bit early (typically 58ish* around the full moon in May, and Largemouth will spawn around 62*) So where you fish, typically mid to late May through mid June
