So glad you're talking about the "legacies" of these celebrity figures, always glorifying these characters when the truth is way different! Much like Princess Diana...I thought she was a saint, but thanks to Prince Harry, SHOVING HIS MOTHER'S MEMORY in my face, I started researching her story and it turns out Princess Di WAS A BIT UNSTABLE, to a degree, and used the PR machine and press to upstage her ex, and provoke the public's hate for Camilla. I had such a beautiful image of her....THANKS FOR RUINING THAT FOR ME, HARRY!

He had IFR training, and flew this route many times, his initial mistake which then cascade toward the crash was tuning his radio to the wrong frequency, so when he was supposed to hear from the airport he was heading to, and wasn’t getting anything, panic probably started setting in because he was starting to head over the dark Atlantic, a mistake anyone could make even with experience, now maybe there was some “get-there-itis” going on, again anyone with any experience level could get, obviously more experience minimizes this but it still happens to experienced pilots.

My brother was an intern for Senator Ted Kennedy & he went out of his way for my brother. Wrote him a letter of recommendation for grad school & they kept in touch until he passed away. I still remember the day he came home telling us politics wasn’t for him but didn’t know how to tell the senator! My dad being the way he is told my brother- just be honest! My brother went to the senator the next day & talked to him & he wrote him a glowing recommendation! I know it’s not JFKjr but honestly I actually heard rumors about Teddy Kennedy as well- but when my brother introduced him to our family & we had the honor of meeting him SEVERAL TIMES he was very kind to ALL OF US - and we are no body special! My brother is no one special. He never went on to have a famous career, nor did he ever work for the senator in any way again. We were actually taken by surprise by his kindness at recommendation that he wrote & he told my mother my brother and was a hard worker- my mother I think like many admired the Kennedy’s- so when my brother began got an internship with Teddy Kennedy she was excited! I can’t speak for JFKjr but Teddy- he was absolutely nothing but kind to us - we met with him several times. Again he did not have to be at all - we were no one to him.

JFK jr told him that his wife had been pressuring him into making the flight against his better judgement. He was worried because he did not believe himself to be a good enough pilot for it. Especially because there were 2 other souls on board that he was ultimately responsible for. Those poor parents lost 2 daughters that night! I never would have flown in those conditions, and at the time, I apparently had a lot more training and hours under my belt than he did, because unlike John, I did have my instrument rating and was working on my multi engine.

I'm a guy and I thought John Kennedy was flawlessly handsome, well-built and personable. Had he lived, I do believe that if he wanted it, he would have become the President of the U.S. He was like a male Princess Diana without the scandal. I do not believe he had a "death wish," he was what they call a "thrill-seeker." He had a great sense of humor. But like his father, he was reckless. John's fatal flaw was hubris. His mother Jacqueline was very concerned about this and had a premonition that his flying would end in disaster. She believed he was absent minded, accident-prone, clumsy and never prepared himself much before a challenge.

I remember watching the news coverage of JFK jr's death on CBS and someone at the anchor desk actually said, " I don't know if we can survive this as a country." I could understand someone saying that after JFK was killed, but Jr was just a magazine editor.

In canada we had the worst highway crash in the country's history , with people being burned alive when his plane crashed. it got 3 minutes of coverage on the evening news, while jfk jr's funeral got 3 days of constant coverage (hours on end) over-riding that story. I was so disgusted.

Her daughter was using every tactic in the book to marry JRF Jr. Her daughter had major emotional issues. Additionally, she planned on getting him years before she met him! Consuelo Vanderbilt's book, "All that Glitters is not Gold" springs to mind . . .

@@P_Law_East You are . . . Carolyn and John had separated. She wasn't going to go to Rory's wedding. As Klein said, Lauren Bessette should have stayed out of it. She arranged for Carolyn and John to meet her at a restaurant (seen by many), made them hold hands and got Carolyn to agree to go to Rory's wedding. She even agreed to hitch a ride with them - dropping her off at Martha's Vineyard. So, whose fault was it that the girls died?

This puts Carolyn in a different view. She saw reality that JFK, Jr. was not as shiny as his image and became unhappy with him. She also had a shiny image too, and perhaps JFK, Jr. also realized she was not so perfect either. They both seem like they grew disillusioned with each other.
